I have limited permissions and am unable to create temp tables.So I would like to use a cursor to "create" a table of sorts then access/query it. But this "table"/cursor would have no column names so how do I refer to the columns? Is there a way to refer to a column by column number rather than column name in a query:
select column1 from tablename where column2 = 'abc'?
Is there a way in a query/update/insert to refer to a column by column number rather than column name?
declare
cursor c1 is
select 'abc', '8-Apr-2013', pk_id from EMPLOYEE where pk_id = '153'
UNION
select '1xyz', '4-10-2013', pk_id from EMPLOYEE where pk_id = '154'
c1_val number;
[code]....

I have written an SQL which will dynamically generate the Select statement with from and where clause in it. But that select statement when executed will get me hundreds of rows and i want to insert each row separately into one more table.
For that i have used a ref cursor to open and insert the table.
In the select list the column names will also be as follows: COLUMN1, COLUMN2, COLUMN3,....COLUMNn
find below the sample
TYPE ref_csr IS REF CURSOR;
insert_csr ref_csr;
v_select VARCHAR2 (4000) := NULL;

I have a Select query which is not fetching records in 11g (11.2.0.2.0) but working fine in 10g (10.2.0.4.0). The query is as below.
--CREATE TABLE t1 (col1 NUMBER, col2 VARCHAR2 (15 CHAR), flag varchar2(1))
--insert into t1(col1, col2, flag) values(1, 'a', 'Y');
--insert into t1(col1, col2, flag) values(2, 'b', 'N');
SELECT *
FROM t1 x
WHERE col1 = 1 AND col2 = 'a' -------------- condition1
AND 0 = -------------- condition2
NVL (
(SELECT COUNT (1)
FROM t1 y
WHERE y.flag = 'N'
AND x.col1 = y.col1
AND x.col2 = y.col2),0)--=0
When remove NVL function or change the condition by having AND NVL(SELECT) =0 the query working fine.

idCoupon Type

789Percent
I would like to write a sql statement that would select all rows where id=123, because id 123 has both coupon types "Amount" and "Percent". So the result set of the sql statement would look like:
idCoupon Type

We are trying insert records from a select query into temporary table, some of the records is missing in the temporary table. The select statement is having multiple joins and union all which it little complex query. In simple terms the script contains 2 part 1st Part Insert in to temporary table 2nd part Select query with multiple joins, inline sub queries, unions and group by classes and conditions Eg. If we execute select statement alone it returns some count for example => 60000 After inserting into the temp table, in temp table the count is around 42000 why is the difference?
It is simple bulk inserts... insert in to temp table select * from xxx. also, there is no commit in between. The problem is all the records populated by the select statement are not inserted in to temp table. some records are not inserted.
Also, we had some other observation. It only happens in its 2nd execution and not its first run. Hope there might be some cache problem Even, we also did not believe that. We are wondering. In TOAD, we tested however at times it happens. In application jar file, after "insert in to temp select * from xxx" we take the i. record count of temp table and ii. record count of "select * from xxx" separately but both doesn't match. Match only at 1st time.

I need to work on this requirement.
There are FOUR tables ( T1 , T11 & T2, T22) ALL store order information.
One of four conditions are possible for each Supply Reorder Number:
•Both table queries return no records
oPopulate all the output fields with nulls
•T1 returns a record, but T2 returns no records
oPopulate output fields with values from the join of T1 and T11.
•T1 returns no records, but T2 returns one record
oPopulate output fields with values from the join of T2 and T22.
•T1 returns a record, and T2 returns a record
oIf the latest order is in T1, then populate output fields with values from the join of T1 and T11.
oIf order dates are equal from both join results, then populate output fields with values from the join of T1 and T11 .
oIf the latest order is in T2, then populate output fields with values from the join of T2 and T22.
How do we filter the dataset based on result of table join ?

I have created domain indexes on text columns of a materialised view to use "contains" clause when searching for data. The select query with "contains" clause does not return any records, however I was able to retrive data using via regular query using a like search.
-> will exec ctx_ddl.sync_index('index_name')'resolve my problem?
-> since the view is a materialized view, how can i make sure that the latest data added are also picked up?

I am importing some data from Oracle into another database on a regular basis. It works fine for most of the queries but couple of queries don't work sometimes (random). I don't get any errors or any data.
We switched on the Oracle auditing to find out the queries being sent to oracle db. We can see all the queries in the Audit log. Is it possible to configure Auditing to get the "Number of Rows" returned by Select statements so that we can be sure that some data was returned.

str1VarChar2(1000):='Name';
MValue1Varchar2(100);
begin
Select * Into MTest1 from Test1 where ID=10;
str1:='Select MTest1.'||str1||' from dual';
execute immediate str1 into mvalue1;

In a select query, I want to substitute the column name from a variable (In turn from an array of column names). Details are given below. I am getting an error as mentioned below. sort it out?
Create table Test1(ID Number(10),
Name varchar2(100),

Site varchar2(100));
[Code]...
I am getting the error:
ORA-00904: "MTEST1"."NAME": invalid identifier
ORA-06512: at line 9
My objective is to get the name 'Thomas' in the variable - MValue1. I don't want to use the statement MValue1:=MTest1.Name because, moving forward, I want to have the column name to be dynamic, taken from an array of column names.
I need to achieve it by giving only one select query to get entire record and fetch the column values one by one, by substituting the column name from an array of column names, instead of writing that many lines of code / querying that may times to the database.

I have a problem executing a function.
There are two tables,
1. Table with column names of a second table mapped to certain variables.
ex: Table1
col1, var1
col2, var2
col3, var3
--------
--------
2. Table with the values for columns as given in table 1 ex:
col1, col2, col3, col4, col5,
a , aa , 1 , x1 , p
b , ab , 2 , x2 , q
c , ac , 3 , x3 , r
I have to select values from table2.col1 do some processing and calculate values and store it in a table then do the same thing with col2 and so. This needs to be done for all the columns that appear in table1.For example in table 1 i have only three columns mentioned thus i have to process col1, col2 and col3 from table2. col4 and col5 will not be processed since they do not appear in the first table.
The problem is i have hundred columns in table 2 and the user can add up to hundred columns in table 1 as and when it is required.
I have created a cursor to first select column name from table 1 where variable is not null.For each value in cursor i put it in a local variable.
Second step is to select values from table2 where instead of column name i am using the local variable.But the problem is instead of choosing values from col1 the query returns the value as col1 (the value of local variable)

I'm attempting to use dynamic SQL to execute a function that returns a user-defined collection. The problem is that I don't know how to use dynamic SQL to handle user-defined types...or if this is even possible?
The code I have is as follows:
CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE qi_test IS
TYPE typ_qi_data IS RECORD(
iQIFlag NUMBER(1),
iIPFlag NUMBER(1),
iRiskIndicator NUMBER(1),
iDenominator NUMBER(8),
iNumerator NUMBER(8)
[code]........
I want to be able to execute the above function using dynamic SQL. Initially tried:
DECLARE
f2_data qi_test.typ_qi_data_tab;
BEGIN
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'begin :1 := qi_test.get_f2_data; end;'
USING OUT f2_data;
[code]......
...but this just produces "PLS-00457: expressions have to be of SQL types". So it looks like I can't do it this way if the returned data type is user defined. I know it would be easier in this instance to just use something like:
f2_data := qi_test.get_f2_data;
...rather than EXECUTE IMMEDIATE, but it's the principle that I need to get right as it forms part of a much bigger piece of work.

I am trying to build an array that contains known column names, 63 columns in all.The idea is to search backwards from 63 down to say 10 to find the first non-blank column.
Then using a loop with the known number of lines print from 1 to last non-blank column.The problem is that it only shows the column names and not the values of the columns.So I am getting 63 lines every time, instead of 20, 30, 40 or however how many fields actually have something.
Here is my
declare

field_name varchar2(15);
