SQL & PL/SQL :: Comma Appearing In Place Of Dot

Jun 20, 2012

When I try to print a decimal value , I get the dot replaced with a comma.

SQL> select 23.45 from dual;

23.45
----------
23,45

Is it because of any particular sqlplus set command or OS issue?

SQL & PL/SQL :: 2nd Decimal Place Not Appearing?

Jul 19, 2012

I am using Oracle Forms 6i. In my program unit i write into a .CSV and .TXT File. Here if the amount is 100.00 then it prints as 100 only. That is if the 2nd decimal digit is 0 it doesnt print it.

For example
10.00 -->10
10.01--> 10.01
10.10-->10.1
10.12-->10.12

I used to_char(nvl(&amount,0),'9999999.99') so if query select to_char(nvl(10.10,0),'9999999.99') from dual, then i get the output as 10.10.

Do you think this is a problem with Oracle forms or SQL or the formatting of .TXT & .CSV.

Performance Tuning :: Session Doing FTS Not Appearing In Longops?

Apr 4, 2012

dbo is a table with 1M records and structure similar to dba_objects

The following queries which does FTS, access same number of blocks as observed in v$session_longops

select * from dbo;
and
select * from dbo where object_type='VIEW';

Ex.
select * from dbo where object_type='VIEW';

select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_CURSOR(null,null,'ALLSTATS LAST'));

PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL_ID 5mh418w9stax2, child number 0
-------------------------------------
select * from dbo where object_type in('VIEW')

Plan hash value: 2675347415

-------------------------------------------
| Id | Operation | Name | E-Rows |
-------------------------------------------
|* 1 | TABLE ACCESS FULL| DBO | 77611 |
-------------------------------------------

Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
---------------------------------------------------

1 - filter("OBJECT_TYPE"='VIEW')

I understand that because the query is accessing large number of blocks which exceeds 6 seconds threshold, the session appears in v$session_longops And this has nothing to do with the time spent in displaying the records on the screen

Now, why the following query does not appear in v$session_longops?

select /*+ full(dbo) */ count(*) from dbo;

select /*+ full(dbo) */ count(*) from dbo;

COUNT(*)
----------
1006525

Elapsed: 00:00:01.36
dv3_erie-dev_08 >select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_CURSOR(null,null,'ALLSTATS LAST'));

PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SQL_ID 4mgjwp3tv70db, child number 0
-------------------------------------
select /*+ full(dbo) */ count(*) from dbo

Plan hash value: 1423969929

--------------------------------------------
| Id | Operation | Name | E-Rows |
--------------------------------------------
| 1 | SORT AGGREGATE | | 1 |
| 2 | TABLE ACCESS FULL| DBO | 1007K|
--------------------------------------------

The table has all nullable columns and thus I assume the index on ID can't be used for this COUNT Thus ideally it shall be accessing same number of blocks and thus shall appear in v$session_longops

I've set pctfree 0
I"ve set initial to close to the end table size
I've set next to 1M
I've set pctincrease 0
blocksize is 8k

Yet I still need to at least do an alter table deallocate unused

Forms :: Dynamic Variable In Place Of Username In Each Select Statement Throughout Application

Jul 25, 2010

I have a problem that i have hard coded the username.tablename in each select statement of all forms of my application. Now i want to use a dynamic variable in place of username in each select statement throughout the application. The example is:

select * from scott.emp
and i want to write it as:
select * from variable.emp

But at compilation of the form the compiler should know the above variable name.

I have tried to use following select statement but it does not work.

select user into :global.username from user_users

I think perhaps my problem would be solved with Dynamic SQL Statement but i have no experience by using this statement.

Automatic Storage Management :: Place Voting Files In Quorum Or Regular Failgroup?

Oct 29, 2013

About the concept of quorum failgroup ORACLE says:QUORUM disks, or disks in quorum failure groups, cannot contain any database files,the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR), or dynamic volumes. However, QUORUM diskscan contain the voting file for Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS). Oracle ASMuses quorum disks or disks in quorum failure groups for voting files wheneverpossible.

To sum up, i think the different between a regular failgroup and a quorum failgroup is a quorum failgroup can only contain vote files and a regular one can contains multiple kinds of files.So i didn't see any advantage to place voting files on a quorum failgroup than on a regular one. Why Oracle introduce the concept of quorum failgroup?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Replace Comma With '10'?

Jan 23, 2012

TestCase

DROP TABLE test ;
CREATE TABLE test (id NUMBER, cnt_str VARCHAR2(200));
INSERT INTO test (id, cnt_str) VALUES
(1,'AKRN000002,1451-1473,00000A,74,AKRN000002,1475-14791000000A,8010AKRN000002,1481-1492,00000A,9310AKRN000002,1494-1500')

[code]...

The requirement is in each of the string where there is comma after the number and the number is prefixed by "-" character,
the comma after the number should be replaced by '10'.

For example in the second record where ID = 2,
CNT_STR is '00000B,1-251000000D,26-32,ADTW000301,2858-2875'.
In this string -32, should become -3210 and resulting string should be '00000B,1-251000000D,26-3210ADTW000301,2858-2875'

Expected Result.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Range And Comma Separated Queries

May 30, 2013

I have a few questions about querying using ranges and comma separated lists. The basic situation is a request comes in with part numbers that can be formatted in a range, comma separated lists or both. For an example, the request contains the following part numbers:

<pnum> 1-10, 14, 17, 11, 21-24 </pnum>

I can muster a basic SQL statement to query for this by hand (more then one way to do this)-

SELECT *
FROM part_table
WHERE pnum BETWEEN '1' AND '10'
OR pnum BETWEEN '21' AND '24'
OR pnum IN (14, 17, 11);

is there a way to create the BETWEEN statement so that the dash doesnt need to be parsed out of the request? (like BETWEEN '1-10') or something that functions to that extent? Is it also possible to nest the BETWEEN statements (or the functionality of the BETWEEN) in the IN statement?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Comma Separated View Results

Jun 19, 2010

We have a existing view which pulls list of orders against a deal. Straight forward result of the view is below.

Deal idSALES_ORDER_NUMBER
280760548460578
280760548789518
280760548794798
280760548794799
280760548873291
280760548887725
280760548900581

Each deal may have different number of orders.

We need to modify the view logic to result the list as comma seperated:

48460578,48789518,48794798,48794799,48873291,48887725,48900581
