RMAN :: How To Restore Corrupted Database

Dec 19, 2012

We have Oracle 10.2.0.3 database installed on Itanium server.

1. One day we found some packages got invalid & not compiling at all with error – ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], [].

2. Then we successfully restored the database from old RMAN backup of previous date that caused this error.

3. After 2 days again we found the same error in alert_prd log - ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], [] ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_STATS", line 19089 ], [], [], [], [], [], [], []

4. Then for testing we exported database using exp command & found 3 tables are not exporting because of data block corruption issue.

5. Then we truncated the data from all 3 tables and then able to export successfully.

6. After all this we manually run SYS.DMS_STATS job but found same error logged in prd_alert log.

This looks like, still database block corruption issue is there & we are unable to cure it 100% This is a production system & in very critical state now.

Recovery Manager (RMAN) :: Restore From Full Backup While Incremental Lvl 0 Available

Sep 10, 2012

7 of days ago Full backup has been taken to disk due to issues with tape devices.3 days ago tape devices have been fixed and we switched to CommVault managed tape backups. CommVault calls RMAN with following command:

run {
     allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape'
     PARMS="SBT_LIBRARY=/usr/local/bin/simpana/Base/libobk.so,BLKSIZE=1048576,ENV=(CV_mmsApiVsn=2,CV_channelPar=ch1,ThreadCommandLine=BACKUP -jm 45 -a 2:71 -cl 9 -ins 9 -at 22 -j 294321 -jt 294321:4:1 -bal 1 -rcp 0 -ms 1 -data -ma 89 -cn oraclehost -vm Instance001)"
     TRACE 0;
     setlimit channel ch1 maxopenfiles 8;
     backup
     incremental level = 0
     filesperset = 32
     database
     include current controlfile spfile ;
     }
     exit;

These backups done successfully.Then archivelog backup taken similar way.But when I issue RESTORE DATABASE PREVIEW SUMMARY; RMAN starts with Full backup set, though newer Incremental Level 0 ones are available.Why it does not use these newer ones?

Recovery Manager (RMAN) :: Information For List And Restore Command

May 15, 2013

Version 11.2.0.1

Control file record time = 7 days

I am not using recovery catalog

RMAN> list archivelog all;

It shows archivelogs from logsequence 179 - 206

But on my o.s I have archivelogs from log sequence 104 - 206 (I have not deleted them for long 1 month). It is not showing form 104 - 178. Since control file record time is 7 days it doesnt keep old archivelogs history.(i.e from 104-206) Hence it is showing only from 179 - 206

My question is

1)If we use rman recovery catalog will these info is maintained forever until deleted. And can i see them in list command. (i.e from 104-206)
2)If i use rman catalog then from where did rman get the information of archives and backup (for list and restore command) from catalog or from control file.

RMAN :: Oracle Recovery Catalog Database In Primary And Standby Mode

Jul 9, 2013

The customer wants the RMAN recovery catalog database to be highly available so that none of the RMAN database backup jobs are impacted at the time of taking the database backups. There are are 200+ databases running on OEL, RHEL and Windows. So we planned to host the recovery catalog database on Oracle Active DataGuard 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition on RedHat EL 5.8 version on two physical servers.

The Primary Instance will be in one server in the Primary DC and the Standby Instance will be on another server in another DC. Also all the database datafiles are hosted in ASM Diskgroups on SAN (DATA, FRA, REDO, ARCH diskgroups). Are there any specific RPM/patch/OS user custom/specific settings or configurations needed..?

Can I register a database say MYDB in datacenter1 with two different catalogs i.e., I have one rman catalog a datacenter1 location and another rman catalog in datacenter2 location. So, can I register MYDB to rman catalogs at datacenter1 and datacenter2. If, so how can we keep rman catalogs at datacenter1 and datacenter2 in sync. For MYDB rman backups I just want to use local rman catalog which is datacenter1. But I just want to keep a redundant copy of the rman catalog.

Recovery Manager (RMAN) :: 06429 - RCVCAT Database Not Compatible With Version?

Sep 7, 2012

I have four Oracle 8i databases that can not be removed because of client requirements. These 8i databases have there own RMAN catalog which is 10G (Originally there were Oracle 8i, 9i and 10g databases using it but are now moved to 11g catalog). Databases are backing up fine. However, all the other databases are using the RMAN 11g Catalog. I want to point the Oracle 8i databases to point to the RMAN 11g recovery catalog. I created an 8i schema, however, i'm getting the following error message: RMAN-06429: RCVCAT database is not compatible with this version of RMAN. however, I wanted to put the question out there to see if there are any work arounds.

we have a cluster of two nodes having oracle 11G R2 and another single instance server where RMAN is configured and this is backup server.i have created the service between the the target database and backup server and they are working fine i.e tnsping work fine at both sites.Now i have physical backup scripts written at one of cluster node and scripts run at crontab. The backup include full_backup , archive backup etc.

Now all physical backups work fine that is connecting RMAN and then catalog and then complete the backup but the full_backup do not connect catalog and throw this error that it do not know the SID in the connect descriptor. the tnsping output (from target ) is as followed fedb112 # tnsping bkp
