Server Administration :: Convert Dictionary Managed Tablespace To Locally Managed Tablespace?

Jan 6, 2012

I have one database which is recently upgraded from oracle 8.1.5 to oracle 10.2.0.4.The database is having around 300 tablespace and total size of the database is 1.5 TB.

The database was created in oracle 8i and all the teblespace were DMT(Dictionary Managed Tablespace) .Usually after up gradation all the tablespace are in DMT mode. Now my requirement is to convert all the tablespace into LMT (Locally Managed Tablespace) so that I can AVAIL ALL THE FEATURES OF LMT.

This database is a mission critical database and very less downtime can be allowed.

OLE DB :: 10g R2 OLE-DB Provider?

we have a client side application, on Windows and Oracle 10g R2.We use OLEDB templates from MFC (CDynamic Paramete rAccessor).There is a long query (4610 char) what provider return E_UNEXPECTED HRESULT (from execute, before the bind).

No detailed info from provider (GetErrorRecords() return E_FAIL).If I copy this query into SQL* Plus, it run without error.There is an almost the same query run successfull, the difference is only in two added order by and alias column.

recordset properties was:
stPropSet.AddProperty(DBPROP_BOOKMARKS, true);
stPropSet.AddProperty(DBPROP_CANSCROLLBACKWARDS, true);
stPropSet.AddProperty(DBPROP_CANFETCHBACKWARDS, true);
stPropSet.AddProperty(DBPROP_QUICKRESTART, true);

[code]...

connection string is:
"Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle;User ID=user;Password=pw;Data Source=foto1;ChunkSize=4000"

Windows :: Error / Test Failed / Provider Cannot Be Found

Feb 25, 2013

We just upgraded one of our databases to 11g on a new server. The 3rd party application that accesses the db is 32 bit. The software needs to be running on the db server in order for some transactions to occur. Since the oracle client on the db server is 64bit do we need to install a 32 bit client as well. As of right now we are getting an error in the software when trying to connect to the db that says "Test failed. provider cannot be found. it may not be properly installed." This is a live production server so uninstalling and reinstalling oracle is not really an option at this time (unless absolutely necessary). How will installing a 32 bit oracle client effect everything (if that is the route we need to take).

Replication :: Cannot Fast Refresh Truncated MV Even After Complete Refresh

Aug 14, 2010

I am getting ORA -32320 when I tried to fast fresh MVs that were truncated.I am able to complete refresh all MVs. However, some MVs are still giving me ORA-32320 when I try to do fast refresh even after complete refresh.

DBMS_MVIEW.EXPLAIN_PLAN says the MVIEW can be fast refreshed.

Dictionary Managed Tablespaces

Jul 7, 2010

I've got one database which was Initially upgraded from Oracle 8i to 10.2.04 running on windows. Most of the tabespaces are Dictionary managed. Do you think moving them to locally managed tablespace would give me better performance?

if Yes, what approach I should apply to move them to locally managed? I would like to do this with minimum/no downtime.

PKRetrieveCommand.CommandText = " INSERT INTO TMP_SEQ (FIELD1) VALUES (DBOID_SEQ.NEXTVAL) RETURNING FIELD1 INTO :dboid"
PKRetrieveCommand.Parameters.Add("dboid", OracleDbType.Decimal, ParameterDirection.Output)
PKRetrieveCommand.ArrayBindCount = allInserts.Length
PKRetrieveCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()TMP_SEQ

Is a temporary table that deletes rows on commit, Field1 is a numeric type and DBOID_SEQ. is a sequence.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Oracle Materialized View Does Not Refresh In Package

it is working fine. However, when I use the same statement in the package which is scheduled to run every morning, it is not working. What could be the reason?

Oracle Materialized Views - Refresh Combinations

Dec 10, 2012

I'd like to set up a new Oracle Materialzed View to automatically default to refresh FAST every hour. I have no trouble setting this up in the CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW statement. However, we will occasionally be performing table maintenance on the table referenced by the MV. At that time I would like to use dbms_mview.REFRESH to execute a refresh ON COMMAND (either F or C depending on the operation weperformed on the table). I have read that this will override the automatic refresh every hour that was set up for the MV when it was created. However - wil the override be permanent? Or will the MV continue to automaticaly FAST refresh every hour after the ON COMMAND refresh is completed?

TimesTen In-Memory :: Manual Refresh Cache Groups From Oracle DB?

May 3, 2013

we want to truncate a oracle Table in the Oracle DB. After the truncate the fact table will be loaded again. After the new load in the fact table we want to tell the times ten db to refresh the cache table. The cache Table is a user owned read-only cache group with no autorefresh. We want to tell times ten in a PL/SQL Block from Oracle DB that starts the refresh from the cache group in times ten. The refresh should not be a autorefresh because the refresh should only start if the fact table will new loaded after the truncate.

Image Copies Vs User Managed Copies

Dec 6, 2012

I would like to know whats the difference between these backups methods:

Image Copy:
BACKUP AS COPY TABLESPACE users;

and

User managed copy:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE BEGIN BACKUP;
... cp users.dbf file
SQL> ALTER DATABASE END BACKUP;

I know that Oracle catalog the image copies in control file and RC automatically.

Export/Import/SQL Loader :: Oracle 9 Database Refresh From Production Server To Integration Server

Oct 13, 2012

I will have to proceed with Oracle 9 database refresh from production server to integration server. 5 biggest schemas must be exported and imported. They constitute 97% space used in a database. This is very big database so I would like to be sure that everything will go smoothly. That is why i want to ask you some questions.

Have you got any clues for me before I start with exp/imp? From my side i will tell you that I will have to exp/imp schema by schema because there is small space both on production and integration disk for a dump. First thing I thought are dependencies between schemas that are exported and that which are not, and also between schemas that are exported/imported one by one.

This is procedure that I plan:

For every schema that is to be refreshed
{
1. Export schema with ROWS=N CONSTRAINTS=Y
2. EXPORT schema with ROWS=y CONSTRAINTS=N
3. Import schema from step one
4. Disable all the foreign key constraints using ALTER TABLE DISABLE CONSTRAINT.
5. Import schema with rows
}
ALTER TABLE ENABLE CONSTRAINT

With above procedure i think that I will avoid problems with dependencies between schemas exported/imported one by one. But my concern is if there are any dependencies between those schemas and schemas that are not exported. Is there an way to check it before refresh ?

How To Refresh Materialized Views

Aug 4, 2011

Materialized view is created by

CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW mv_employee_name
AS SELECT EMPLID, EMPL_NAME
FROM VEMPDATA@REMOTEDB
WHERE REGION = 'US';

how the refersh happens or how do I specify the refresh clause.

REFRESH FAST option is looking for VIEW LOG on the master table but in this case its a remote view, so I cannot create any object on remote db.

MV-Scheduled Refresh Failure?

Jul 12, 2012

I have created a materialized view log on table testing_mview_rev in 11g:

SQL> CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW LOG ON testing_mview_rev WITH ROWID;

Materialized view log created.

And a MV on it in 10g:

SQL> create materialized view testing_mview_1_rev REFRESH Force start with (sysdate) next (sysdate+1/1440) with rowid as select * from testing_mview_rev@S58_TO_S56;
Materialized view created.

Now this is suppose to automatically refresh itself every minute but refresh is failing. However manual refresh is working fine.

what I have missed here. is there any other way to schedule the MV to run every minute?
