this query works ok in oracle.dataAccess but not in Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.Connector does not raise an error. It just stalls.
Dim PKRetrieveCommand As New OracleCommand : PKRetrieveCommand.Connection = JobConnection
PKRetrieveCommand.CommandText = " INSERT INTO TMP_SEQ (FIELD1) VALUES (DBOID_SEQ.NEXTVAL) RETURNING FIELD1 INTO :dboid"
PKRetrieveCommand.Parameters.Add("dboid", OracleDbType.Decimal, ParameterDirection.Output)
PKRetrieveCommand.ArrayBindCount = allInserts.Length
PKRetrieveCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()TMP_SEQ
Is a temporary table that deletes rows on commit, Field1 is a numeric type and DBOID_SEQ. is a sequence.

I have a 10gR2 standby database.Normally when logs are created in primary they automatically get shipped to standby but sometimes I get FAL request rejected or connection lost contact error and the logs are not automatically shipped .
Then when I manually switch a logfile the RFS process copies the old logs into DR site(around 4 or 5 logs).What is the problem...How to resolve this???

I have one database which is recently upgraded from oracle 8.1.5 to oracle 10.2.0.4.The database is having around 300 tablespace and total size of the database is 1.5 TB.
The database was created in oracle 8i and all the teblespace were DMT(Dictionary Managed Tablespace) .Usually after up gradation all the tablespace are in DMT mode. Now my requirement is to convert all the tablespace into LMT (Locally Managed Tablespace) so that I can AVAIL ALL THE FEATURES OF LMT.
This database is a mission critical database and very less downtime can be allowed.

i have done oracle data guard between two databases (database A is the primary) and (database B is the standby), and it was working fine for two weeks, then the network admin did some changes on the firewall on standby side, which made the primary database can not write on standby redo log , so archives was generated on primary and do not generated on standby by, now we solve the firewall probelm and new archives generated on primary is generated on atandby too, but now i have a gap in archives on standby database and standby database now is not synchronized with primary database, and data changes happen on primary is not reflected on standby, also archives that were generated on primary and did not generated on standby during the problem time is not registered in V$ARCHIVED_LOG neither on primary database nor on standby database

I have created dataguard between two instances hosted in two different servers. I have done switchover from primary to standby & then again standby to primary with DGMGRL utility.
1- When I done switchover to primary & trying to open standby database in readonly mode it was giving below error-
ORA-01154: database busy. Open, close, mount, and dismount not allowed now
Why this error was coming ?
2- As I was not able to open standby database in read only mode, I have executed below command-
alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
which return an error as-
ORA-01153: an incompatible media recovery is active
After this I have executed-
alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
which executed successfully.
& then after standby database open in read only mode.
Why above error was coming ?
3- After this I had tried to check the checkpoint_change# & controlfile_change# from primary database and result shows both number were different.
Why they are not matching ?

I have a doubt regarding the process the RMAN follows for restore and recovery of the database.
My Level 0 full backup completes on Saturdays at around 11 am after taking 8 hours (It starts at 3am).On Sunday, I ask RMAN to restore (on a different box) till Saturday 11:30 am.Then, after the restore is successful, I recover it till 11:45 am.
The recovery also goes fine and Iam able to clone to test box.
Till what time is the database restored? I assume its till 11 am since the L0 backup finishes at 11 am though I have asked it to restore till 11:30 am
During the recovery, ONLY the archives generated between Saturday 3 am and till the time i asked for recovery (Saturday 11:45 am ) are required. But, checking the recovery log file, i was surprised to see that RMAN has restored archive files starting from Friday 9:30 pm (Much before the time the Level 0 backup even started).
why does RMAN require the old archive log files.

What is the best option we can use to reduce the cost and to implement the DR site? can we use data guard ? and will be the configurations and requirements for it?

I have configured a physical standby database.
I have set the physical standby database to open read mode for a short while.
according to [URL] in order to set db in for from open read-only to applying redo data
Quote:
To change the standby database from being open for read-only access to performing Redo Apply:
Terminate all active user sessions on the standby database. Restart Redo Apply. To start Redo Apply, issue the following statement:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE
2> DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
To enable real-time apply, include the USING CURRENT LOGFILE clause:
SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE
2> USING CURRENT LOGFILE;
this is what happen
SYS@ngdr> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect session;
alter database recover managed standby database disconnect session
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00274: illegal recovery option SESSION
SYS@ngdr> alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile;
okay since I encountered the illegal recovery options session, I decided to use alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile; now the session seems to be hanging forever.

We are in the process of setting up a DR environment for our SAP and Oracle databases . The netapp and our architects came up with solution as follows .
1.Standby databases are built for all production databases.
2.The SAP file systems are replicated to the secondary site
3.The Oracle logfiles and controlfiles are replicated by netapp snap mirror every 10 mins interval
4.The database is recovered through recover standby database every 15 mins at standby site
5.Please note there is no data guard involved .
6.To test the failover , the mirror is broken .The standby controlfile is replaced with Production controlfile and Redo logs files.
7.The standby database issued a startup comnmand and it worked .
Would like to know whether the step 6 is a correct approach ? I tried to convince the architects that this will result in a very disastrous situation for us but none is listened to .

I'm on a Windows server 2003 R2 64 bit, database is 11.1.0.7. From RMAN connected to the target and the catalog, this is a show all;
RMAN> show all;
RMAN configuration parameters for database with db_unique_name ORCL are:
CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 3 DAYS;
CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION OFF;
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK;
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 'F:oracleadmin
[code]....
I'm running incremental backups, a level 0 on sunday and a level 1 the other days of the week, this is the ctl file:
LEVEL 0:
connect target /@ORCL
connect catalog rman/rmanpw@rmancat
RUN
{
[code]....
The level 0 does delete the archive logs (because of the delete input). Each backupset has two copies of the archive logs (which is what I want), and I expected the logs to be deleted after being backed up 2 days (each day is twice, 2 days = 4 times). But it's not deleting the logs, even after 6 runs.

I am trying to restore a backup from a live server to a dev server. Have moved nackup sets. Created a windows service to match the old sid on live system. copied the pfile from live and changed the locations of the folders to suit dev. set oracle_sid to the new sid(as created to match live)
connected to rman
startup nomount
set dbid to the live number
restore controlfile
alter database mount
catalog'd all the backupsets
[code]....
but it fails when it tries the restore .. see below ..The path it is showing is the old path from the live server, so it appears to eb ignoring my set newname statements even though they succeeded earlier - should be restoring them to d:oracleoradatasun43dev ? Does the whole thing have to be put inside one run block or can I put bits in one run block and other bits outside of it etc?
