Number Of Rows Inserted Is Different In Bulk Insert Using Select Statement
Jul 1, 2010
I am facing a problem in bulk insert using SELECT statement.My sql statement is like below.
strQuery :='INSERT INTO TAB3
(SELECT t1.c1,t2.c2
FROM TAB1 t1, TAB2 t2
WHERE t1.c1 = t2.c1
AND t1.c3 between 10 and 15 AND)' ....... some other conditions.
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE strQuery...These SQL statements are inside a procedure. And this procedure is called from C#.The number of rows returned by the "SELECT" query is 70.
On the very first time call of this procedure, the number rows inserted using strQuery is 70. But in the next time call (in the same transaction) of the procedure, the number rows inserted is only 50.And further if we are repeating calling this procedure, it will insert sometimes 70 or 50 etc. It is showing some inconsistency.On my initial analysis it is found that, the default optimizer is "ALL_ROWS". When i changed the optimizer mode to "rule", this issue is not coming.I am using Oracle 10g R2 version.

We are doing a bulk select and insert (10,000 rows processed in each transaction). If one record fails, the entire transaction is rolled out. We need to fix this and re-run. the process is repeated unless all errors are fixed.
How to capture all errors in a single run ?

I used bulk collect and for all statements to select and insert the data in temp table.The select SQl is returning one row. But its not inserting this row into temp table.Its not throwing any exceptions. Used ref cursor because the select statement is going for every cursor.
here modified the code and provided only one cursor.

we are inserting a data in table by selecting data from another table.This is part of a very big procedure and the code is like
Loop
SELECTMAX(biz_trn_no) + 1
INTOv_biz_tran_no
FROMnew_business_transactions
WHEREnb_srno = nb_sr_no;
[code]....
Is there any way I can get this functionality without using a sequence? I assume corelated query would be slow and analytic.

this is my problem,
insert into t1
select *
from t2
where condition;
Select * from t2 where condition retrieves in example 1000000 records but I only need to insert into t1 the first 100 records.
Is there anyway to abort/limit the insert into t1 to 100 records?
This canĀ“t be used because only applies the condition to the first 100 rows of t2 and it's not valid.
insert into t1
select *
from t2
where condition
where rowcount<100;

I have a table which stores Employees and their Phone numbers. Each employee can have multiple numbers e.g.
Employee, Number
Adam, 123
Adam, 456
John, 123
John, 456
I am trying to write a select statement that will split the rows into columns and group by each employee e.g.
Employee, Number1, Number 2
Adam, 123, 456
John, 123, 456

In a trigger(on update of a table t1) I am trying to write, I am doing an insert on t2 accessing ':new' values of the update on t1.
But in my Insert statement, I am having get one of the column values from another table. How can I write my insert statement in such a way as to insert values contained in ':new' pseudo columns and a select from another table. Below is my insert statement in the trigger :
-------
IF (:old.GROUP_YELLOW <> :new.GROUP_YELLOW) THEN
INSERT INTO TEST.W_THRESHOLD_LOG
(THRESHOLD_LOG_WID, CHANGE_DATE, MEASURE_TYPE_WID, MEASURE_NAME, CUSTOMER_WID, CUSTOMER_NAME, USER_ID, CHANGED_ITEM, PREV_VALUE, NEW_VALUE)
VALUES(TEST.W_THRESHOLD_LOG_SEQ.NEXTVAL, SYSDATE, :new.MEASURE_TYPE_WID, 'Rolling Stabilty' , :new.CUSTOMER_WID, 'Customer1', 'User1', 'GROUP_YELLOW', :old.GROUP_YELLOW , :new.GROUP_YELLOW);
END IF;
-------
In the above code if the hardcoded value 'Customer1' need to be picked from another table,
i.e .
SELECT NAME FROM W_CUSTOMER_DIM WHERE CUSTOMER_WID = THRESHOLD.CUSTOMER_WID
how can I rewrite my query to the above value from the select into my insert statement..?

Is there any way to combine an identifier and select statement in PL/SQL when using the insert into command?
e.g.
DECLARE
name := 'BOB';
BEGIN
insert into mytable(NAME, SLOWEST_LAP, FASTEST_LAP) name, (select min(time), max(time) from lLAP_TIMES);
END;
In the above statement I am trying to insert the identifier "name" (BOB) into MYTABLE.NAME, along with the result of the select query from the table LAP_TIMES ... min(time) into MYTABLE.SLOWEST_LAP, and, .... max(time) into MYTABLE.FASTEST_LAP.
If the above is possible in one statement how would I also combine an identifier, with two select statements into an "insert into" statement?
e.g.
name := 'BOB';
insert into mytable(NAME, SLOWEST_LAP, FASTEST_LAP, EVENT) name, (select min(time), max(time) from LAP_TIMES), (select race_event from MEET);
In the above example I am also trying to insert the result from MEET.RACE_EVENT into the column MYTABLE.EVENT

This is what I've been trying to do.
I have the following table:
FOOTBALL PLAYERS < ID, NAME, ATTRIBUTE>
100-JIM-TALL
101-BOB-STRONG
102-MARK-SMART
...etc
I want to form a query that regardless of the total returned records, I will be able to specify how many of each "kind" of players I want returned. There are several good reasons that it has to be one query and not many.

I am importing some data from Oracle into another database on a regular basis. It works fine for most of the queries but couple of queries don't work sometimes (random). I don't get any errors or any data.
We switched on the Oracle auditing to find out the queries being sent to oracle db. We can see all the queries in the Audit log. Is it possible to configure Auditing to get the "Number of Rows" returned by Select statements so that we can be sure that some data was returned.

I have the following tables:
CREATE TABLE test_abc(id NUMBER PRIMARY KEY, col1 NUMBER(10), col2 NUMBER(10), col3 NUMBER(10));
INSERT ALL
INTO test_abc VALUES (1,12345,34567,87654)
INTO test_abc VALUES (2,17345,37567,87754)
INTO test_abc VALUES (3,12745,34767,87674)
INTO test_abc VALUES (4,17045,30567,80754)
INTO test_abc VALUES (5,12740,34067,87604)
SELECT * FROM dual;
CREATE TABLE test_b (id NUMBER, col VARCHAR2(10), coltype_id NUMBER);
What I need to do is to convert the columns col1, clo2, col3 in test_abs into rows in test_b. but I need to do this so that the column name is what determines the value of colytype_id.So in test_b values will look like:
id col coltype
1 12345 1
1 34567 2
1 87654 3
and so on.

Here is my code snippet :
.......

I have one table in which I want to restrict some records from being inserted. I don't want to put any checked constraints. e.g. consider following table
transaction(
id number primary key,
txn_date timestamp(7),
payee varchar2(40),
amount number,
memo varchar2(40),
ref_num number
)
I want to write SQL which should not inset duplicate record.
e.g.
I have written one as bellow:
insert into transaction
select 1, to_date('2009-12-12','YYYY-MM-DD'), 'Payee1', 12, 'Test', 212 from dual where
(select count(*) from transaction where txn_date=to_date('2009-12-12','YYYY-MM-DD') and
payee='Payee1' and amount=12)=0;
Can I use exists/not exists, which query will be more appropriate. (Please consider that fields which I am using to filter out the duplicate transactions does not contain primary key.)
Can I write such SQL. Or do i check for duplicate rows one by one and then filter the duplicate records.

I know this is an old thread and I just started working with triggers. I want to check if the data being inserted is already in the table and if not insert it:
create or replace trigger t_triggername
before insert on tbl_tablename
for each row
begin
if(:new.user_id <> :old.user_id) then
insert into tbl_tablename(user_id, location)
values (:new.user_id, :new.location);
end if;
end;
what if I wanted to keep the user but only update location if the user is already in the table. I've tried doing it this way:
create or replace trigger t_triggername
before insert on tbl_tablename
for each row
begin
if(:new.user_id <> :old.user_id) then
insert into tbl_tablename(user_id, location)

I have a table emp as mentioned below:
SELECT * FROM EMP_TEST;
EMP_TEST
-----------------------------------------------------
ENO EFIRSTNAME ESECONDNAME DEPTNO
1 JOHN PAI 10
2 ABC DEF 20
3 EFG GHI 30
Now the primary key in this above table is pk_emp_test_eno on eno.
I have a requirement where i need to dump some dummy data (600000000 numbers of data ) into the emp_test based on these existing data without disabling the constraints (maintaining unique constraint for each record). And while inserting i want to commit after every 1000 insertion.
in bulk inserting dummy datas into the table as it is taking much more time to insert into the same.
