Logical Corruption In Oracle Database - Invalid RowID Error

Jul 30, 2012

I observed logical corruption in one of the database, while running select on some tables observed ORA-01410: invalid ROWID error. These errors or errors related to this logical corruption are not reported in alert log file.

Since our database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode and regular backups are not happening through RMAN (weekly cold mount point backup to tape),
i was not able to use RMAN to investigate block corruption.

So used DBVERIFY on all datafiles of database to check the consistency of datafiles, and found DBV gives error for one of the datafile - 'Completely zero block found during dbv:' As i mentioned earlier, we are not taking regular backups using RMAN and database is in NOARCHIVE mode.

Data Guard :: Apply Patches On Oracle Database With Logical Standby Database?

Apr 22, 2011

I got a primary database with a logical standby database running Oracle 11g. I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete. And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.

I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?

1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site

SQL & PL/SQL :: ORA-01410 - Invalid Rowid While Selecting / Refreshing Materialized Views

Dec 17, 2012

I have a Multi layer Mviews and Views which i use to load a table. There are three base level Mview which is accessed by 4 views ... which are in turn accessed by a view which is used to load a table.

Before the insert called for the table .. the base mviews are refreshed.

I get the "ORA-01410 Invalid Rowid" error while inserting in to the table and while refreshing the mviews. They don't occur every time and not together as well.

The Mviews contains table joins and the top level views which accessing these mviews does aggregation. Below is the mview query for one of the mview.

SELECT DISTINCT c.fiscal_time_id,
a.product_group_id,
a.allocation_driver_id,
a.hyp_entity_id,
d.business_division_alt_id

The Refresh method for the mview is Force.

Reports & Discoverer :: REP-1222 Invalid Body Size Error In Oracle?

Oct 20, 2010

I'm working on an RDF report. This report runs as a part of Payment Process in Oracle Payables. This report has the printer style as BACS. The layout has only main section. The body of the main section of the report has only one repeating frame and the body field inside the frame. The body field gives concatenated values from the select query. I have to modify the SQL query(where clause) of the report. After I change the query and save it, the report compiles sucessfully on report builder.

However after following payment process and submitting request, the report fails with error:

'REP-1222 Invalid Body Size.'

Database Keeps Running Even After Deletion / Corruption Of Control Files

Jan 21, 2011

I was carrying out an experiment in order to crash the database and recover it.

The database was running, I moved the control file to another location and to my surprise the database was still running. I tried issuing checkpoint and transaction but it didn't affect database operations. I tried doing log switch. It completed successfully. According to my understanding and Oracle Certification books database was supposed to crash. But it didn't.

I tried this not only on RHEL, Windows XP but also in Solaris 5.10. The database version is Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition.
