Installation :: Oracle Client Installs With Validated Rpms?
Nov 28, 2012
I'm needing to set up some Oracle clients (11.2) on middle tier/application servers Looking around for a simple/repeatable way of meeting the pre-install requirements and was considering using the "validated" rpms.
The oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall rpm i believe is really for a database server setup, so it's doing some group/kernel parameter/package setup that i suspect isn't really required for a client only setup.
Do people use those validated rpms for client only installs?Might there be a "Oracle Validated Client preinstall" rpm out there?Should I just script the package installs and user/group creation?
how to make the client requirements/install process quick and easy!
I am setting up a conversion server for upgrading an application database to a later version - the database is hosted on 11g but the vendor provided ETL tool only supports the Oracle 10g client. Is there a specific order so the install will work on the initial install. I'm installing Oracle 11g R1 (11.1 no patches) and 10g (10.1.0.4 after patching) 32Bit on a WIN2K3 SP2 Server. I've done this install before but have had to play with the path order to get it to work.
We're deploying a new product release however this build uses Oracle 11G. We want to perform a side by side install for testing purposes. These are low usage systems so installing another Oracle build will not hinder the system.
We intend to test for a couple of weeks and migrate data, then uninstall the 10G. I'm in the process of installing 11G now, the 10G is up and running. I don't want to impact the 10G install. I'm installing 11G in /home/oracle/oracle11G directory. I would like to use 1 Listener.ora file. I've broken down the install bellow.
10G SID "processing" Oracle home /home/oracle/oracle10g /mnt/Oracle/Oracle10GData /mnt/Oracle/OracleRedoLog
11G SID "processing11G" Oracle home /home/oracle/oracle11g /mnt/Oracle/Oracle11GData /mnt/Oracle/Oracle11GRedoLog
Do I need to specify the databasename for Processing2? Also the front end boxes (managers) are two different servers so Processingweb1 and processingweb2.
I rarely do client installs. I have not downloaded upgrades on a couple of years. I have been doing other stuff and oracle supports patching page has changed.
Need to install 11.2 on HP Itanium 64 bit. I can get 11.2.0.1 from otn.oracle.com.
1. I downloaded the 11.2.0.1 client from otn. I want to see if there is an 11.2.0.2 or 11.2.0.3 patch on Oracle support. I can only find upgrades that are specifically for the databsae server. Do I use this? See below for the notes I used so far. Note: Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List [ID 730365.1]
Which leads me to the following patch below. However, this download is much larger than the client download on otn. It also says 'database server' and does not break out to 'database client'.So not sure if this is what I use to patch the client or not. This upgrade is also much larger than the straight client download. So not sure if this is what I use to just upgrade the client.
Patch:10404530 Description 11.2.0.3.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER Product Oracle Database Family
This upgrade seems to be for the whole database and not just for the client install.
2. Do you apply PSU's to the client? I see them listed for the 'database'. Not sure if you apply to a separate client install. 3. We use the proC pre-compiler. When I look in the instant client download section, I see a seperate section for the proC pre-compiler download. I don't see that for the full blown client. Does the regular client download include the proC pre-compiler?
I had a Windows XP client pc with Oracle Client 11-1-0-6 installed. In my absence this client was reinstalled with Windows 7. Therefore all my Registry and Start - Programs settings have been lost.
However my original 11-1-0-6 Oracle Home still exists intact on my C: drive ( i.e. C:appitjxtproduct11.1.0client_2 )
Is there any way I can use the Oracle installer to register this Client Oracle Home again ( so it appears in the Registry and in START PROGRAMS ) ? or is there a way just to get the installer tio reinstall into the client_2 directory again ?
We are in process of upgrading 10g (RAC) database to 11g(RAC), does the oracle client software must also be upgraded to 11g or the 10g client can be used for 11g database connectivity, since there are thousands of end users it is very difficult to upgrade all the clients. What is the best approach for client software?
I was installing Oracle 10g Client on my PC. But after Specifying Home Details, I was unable to proceed. The installation hangs in the Loading Product Information form.
Most of the ones I'm seeing online relate to the database, not the client. I have linux.x64_11gR2_client.zip and and trying to do runInstaller and I get up to perform prerequisite tests and it tells me that I am missing packages and that kernel parameters are wrong. I've tried to run the runfixup.sh file and get a lot of this:
./orarun.sh: 186: [: true: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 848: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 864: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 882: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 903: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1052: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1057: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1075: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1085: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1115: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1143: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1189: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 139: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 139: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1228: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1284: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1342: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1426: [: unexpected operator./orarun.sh: 1451: [: unexpected operator And many of the supposedly missing packages actually are installed. IE: make. I have make 3.81 installed but the installer insists upon make 3.80.
I have installed Oracle virtual box on windows host and have created Oracle Linux virtual machine as guest. I have installed the database server on my host machine but rest of the things(Peoplesoft peopletools etc....) on Oracle Linux guest. Now, I am trying to installed database client on guest machine which is Linux so that I can connect to DB server running on host, but having difficulties in doing so.
, I am following the installation instruction given in the doc docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24322.pdf, but when I finally run command runInstaller.sh doesn't happen anything.Actually, to install other software's I just double clicked the .sh file and it automatically started the installation process on a terminal window but when I clicked runInstaller.sh to install DB client, it didn't do anything.
Also, when I run the same command runInstaller.sh from command line after navigating to the directory where this file is present, It throws me error saying "no command found".By the way, why the steps given in doc are so complex, I wish If I could just double click runInstaller.sh just like others and it start the installation process.
I have Oracle 11g database home in my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. However, now i would like to install Oracle 10.2.0 client as well. I tried giving a separate location.
But for some reason, whenever i start the Setup and run the Administrator Type, the installation just skips without giving any errors. It just creates the inventory folder in the specified path. It goes to the Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks and exits without giving any warnings or errors.
We are going to upgrade our Oracle client on our clients to 11.2.0.3. But I can not record a resopnsfile with setup.exe. Have Oracle removed this feature?
Here's a dump from setup.exe
There is no possibility to run setup.exe witch -record -destinationfile option:
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:UsersTestAppDataLocal TempOraInstall2013-01-14_02-12-48PM. Please wait ... Usage: setup [-options] [(<CommandLineVariable=Value>)*]
Where options include:
-clusterware oracle.crs,<crs version>
Version of Cluster ready services installed.
-crsLocation <Path>
Used only for cluster installs, specifies the path to the crs home locat ion. Specifying this overrides CRS information obtained from central inventory.
-invPtrLoc <full path of oraInst.loc>
Unix only. To point to a different inventory location. The orainst.loc f ile contains: inventory_loc=<location of central inventory> inst_group=<>
-jreLoc <location>
Path where Java Runtime Environment is installed. OUI cannot be run with out it.
-logLevel <level>
To filter log messages that have a lesser priority level than <level>. V alid options are: severe, warning, info, config, fine, finer, finest, basic, gen eral, detailed, trace. The use of basic, general, detailed, trace is deprecated.
-paramFile <location of file>
Specify location of oraparam.ini file to be used by OUI.
-responseFile <Path>
Specifies the response file and path to use.
-attachHome
For attaching homes to the OUI inventory.
-cfs
Indicates that the Oracle home specified is on cluster file system (shared). This is mandatory when '-local' is specified so that Oracle Universal Installer can register the home appropriately into the inventory.

Session/Installer variables are specified using:
[session:]varName=value Ex 1: session:ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome" Ex 2: ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome" The lookup order is session:varName then just varName. The session prefix is used to avoid ambiguity.
Component variables are specified using:
[compInternalName:[Version:]]varName Ex 1: oracle.comp1:1.0.1:varName="VarValue" Ex 2: oracle.comp1:varName="VarValue" The lookup order is compInternalName:Version:varName, then compInternalName: varName, then just varName.
I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 64x with Oracle DB 11.2.0.1.0 64x and client 64x correctly installed and working. I need install the client 32x because some applications require.

After an Update statement, Sql%NotFound is being validated. Sql%NotFound validates to true even though a record matching the update condition is found. Because of this, the procedure execution Exits. If the Sql%NotFound is commented, then the Record gets updated. which is validating Sql%NotFound condition to True.
We are adding a column to a table using online redefintion,so its dependent triggers are getting Invalidated.
Table has 3 simple triggers on it
1)Delete trigger-AFTER EACH ROW-Its insert old deleted data in some other table
2)Insert trigger-AFTER EACH ROW-Its insert newly inserted data in some other table
3)Update trigger-AFTER EACH ROW-Its insert updated data in some other table
Modified table might be under some transcation
ISSUE: After recompiling 2 triggers(Insert and Updated) they are compiled successfully but Delete trigger is erroring out with ORA-04023:Object <trigger name > could not be validated or authorized
We have developed an application for our clients, planning to deploy it in client server soon. we have plans to support the application in future,so we want to restrict the clients from any modifications. By Doubt is, 'build_status=Run only' alone, cannot protect our application from client developers to edit our application,
Because though we install our application as 'Run Only' at the time of installation in client instance,we can still import the original application and change the type to 'Build and Run Application',and run the new application as 'Build and Run'.(which is not supposed to) we want to make sure,if there is any way we can protect our application from modifications after client side installation.
I am getting "ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE" while installing "Oracle Database 11GR2" on "Oracle RAC 11R2" cluster setup. I am getting this error at the time of "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" configuration reaches till 39% on HP-UX 11.31 IA64 platform.
Does EM have a utility that I can get to scan a set of host machines and their disks and tell me what oracle products are installed? Sort of like that common inventory tool used on windows desktops, but just for Oracle products.
If not EM then any third party tool or some other Oracle tool?
My question is; I've been reading the Oracle database 11g R2 documentation at this link [URL]...
I passed a couple of days learning about all installation configuration parts including the desktop class and server class. As I was learning, So I had already downloaded Oracle Database Express 11g R2 for win32.
So as i had finished the installation guide I thought it's time to install the oracle now. I did it, and what I found was that there was not any option during installation that i read in above documentation. While trying to find about this difference i reached on documentation[URL]...
That is for express version only.
My question here is, Express edition, we use for learning purpose, But it doesn't look like it has all the stuff that we should learn during installation And what documentation I should follow from my above given two links?
I am trying to install Oracle RAC installation w/ guest OS OracleLinux6 on Virtualbox/Mac OS.But getting problem to set network & ip setting and yum is not able to reach oracle repository.

I downloaded the 11G 64bit for windows and unzipped the files into one folder and ran the setup.exe as an administrator. It opened up the java screen and I chose, create and configure a database. Next screen I chose, Desktop Class, when I click next it dies. It does not show me teh next screen. I went to the appdata folder and saw this error but not sure what to do EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005).
Had some annoying problems with installing TOAD on Windows 7, 64 bit.Got I working now, but anyway I thought I share it here.
1. Toad 10.1(latest) doesn't work with the Oracle 64 bit client. The problem is that this is a limitation of the tool Quest uses to build Toad. So that will not work in a "near" future.
2. Never choose the default suggested installation path which is "C:Program Files(86)",that will mess it up totally. Point to a new or existing directory without brackets.
I want to install Oracle Grid software 11g R2. What is the Latest Oracle Grid software 11g R2 version available? Is it 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.3?If it is 11.2.0.3, is it available in metalink download, because I see only 11.2.0.1 version in metalink download?
