We are plannig to creat a central inventory for all Oralcle installations into to C:oraagentorainventory.
I am working on SLES 11 SP2 on zLinux and I am trying to install oracle 11gr2 silently. I was able to install the GI and it is running but when I try to install the oracle binaries I keep getting this error:
[FATAL] [INS-32035] Unable to create a new central inventory directory : /opt/oraInventory.
CAUSE: The central inventory location provided is not empty.
The GI install created /opt/oraInventory and all the files are in there. I even changed the owner from grid:oinstall to oracle:oinstall but that did not work. When I did the install on SLES 11 SP1 I did not get this error.
I am running this command to install oracle:

There is an issue with the 32 bit Oracle client on 64 bit windows where it cannot connect to the database throwing the error ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
Since all the 32 applications will have the path C:Program Files (x86) on 64 bit windows, The PATH variable doesn't recognise (). This issue was there in the previous versions of Oracle Client. But the bug has been fixed in Oracle 10.2.0.3 32 bit client. Still the user is facing the same issue.

I am exploring the options for file based databases for offline applications where there are no overheads of database installations. We have a system which has Oracle database with more than 500 tables. We need to write a lightweight application (offline) in .net which will run from USB drive and write data to USB drive only.
Existing system has a data layer which writes data to Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition database. The offline application will have more or less similar data entry forms and storage structure. In order to reuse data layer of existing system (stored procedures) can the Oracle Lite be used as a database which can run from USB drive?
I understand Oracle Lite has a suport for synchronization with the server (our main database in this case) by which data can be synchronized with minimum overheads. How the Oracle Lite is licenced if I have 300 odd users of this offline applications. I need to use only database part of Oracle Lite and not mobile server.
On windows server how can we see if the PMON or SMON is running? Is there a way, as we can see on linux using?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe are planning to consolidate our Oracle Production DB into one server. We are basically a windows shop. Is it feasible to run 8 production Oracle DB in one windows server. All the DB are not really transaction intensive DB. 2 DB in the size of 300GB and others all DB falls under average size of 40GB.
I can take care of the HD slicing so Oracle does not enter into IO bottleneck. We are planning to go for external NAS or SAN for storage.
My main concern is on processor usage. The processor we are thinking about is Intel Xeon Quad Core x 2nos. Will there be a processor bottleneck or is there way in Oracle to assign processor usage(I belive there is no much tweaking options here)
There are two oracle inventory tables, I found that used to pull up data before but not anymore . It is
�INVFV_INV_BY_PERIOD_AND_ITEM�
and �MTL_BIS_INV_BY_PERIOD� .
I need to use all the columns/data that are in these two tables. I am not finding any equivalent table. where can I retrieve these information from?

i am trying to install Oracle 10.10.2.0 on Windows Server 2003 standard x64 Edition Service Pack, but when i try to run the installer or open DVD it gives me below error.
"The image file D: is Valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine."
I was trying to delete the database in the test server. When i was deleting listener was already stopped, i continued deleting using dbca, it shown me some alert that datafiles cant be deleted because system could't find database, since listner was stopped so only service was deleted(the one showing in the windows administrator toolsservicesOracleServiceTEST).
All the datafile parameter files are still there. How can i delete the datafiles and parameter files belongs to that database or how to create the deleted service, so that i will start the listener and do the complete deleting of the database.
working on setting up connection between a Windows 2008 server and a pair of Oracle 11g DBs in a RAC Cluster. One Database (let's say DatabaseA) is in one data center, and the other (DatabaseB) is an a secondary, backup database. The RAC Cluster is all set up, working fine, etc. However, I Need to set up the machine.config file on my Windows Server, to go only connect to DatabaseA, unless it fails, in which case, we want it to connect to DatabaseB. Think we could do this if the host app server was Linux/Unix, but it is windows, and I just don't have the background as to the parameters to set up in the machine.config file. They are similar, but different, and we want a very specific behavior (use DatabaseA, unless fails, then DatabaseB). Application is .NET 4.0 app.

I have configured the network(private,public and virtual) for both servers and have started the installation.
In the installation of oracle I add both servers but then I reach to a point where they ask me for voting disk or ocr disk in the cluster configuration storage but no disk is present how can i create ocr disk or voting disk on windows server 2008? And the external storage should I buy a special type of storage that supports clustering to continue my work?
Oracle 11g R1 or R2 is availble for Windows Server and If YES then any link for the same.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have oracle XE installed on my machine and it was working absolutely fine for the last year or so. Today there was an trojan intrusion which caused some issues with my windows xp OS like hiding some files, desktop etc. After everything was cleaned up and things back to normal. I am having issues with XE.
1. I can start and stop XE with out any issues
2. When I use the run sql command line, I can connect using - connect sys/sys as sydba.
3. I can also run a query to see all the users and see the HR user also.
However,
1. When I connect to my hr user using connect hr/password@xe, it just hangs
2. I tried the- go to Oracle XE admin page but it just hangs for a long time and returns page cannot be found.
3. I can tnsping the xe instance.
Is a fresh install the only option? or is there any way to correct this using the sys/sys user?
I'm installing Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) RAC on Windows enterprise Server. Am able to install cluster ware (10.2.0.4). While installing ASM (10.2.0.3)/ DB its going to restart both the servers automatically. Is there any problem with this Versions (OS and Oracle) combination. Is it compatible or Not?
