Cannot Connect To Oracle Running Under A Virtual-PC XP Mode Guest

Oct 27, 2012

Host: Win7

Guest: Using Virtual PC on Win7, created a VM using XP-Mode. Installed Oracle and everything on it. I can connect to the Oracle from within the guest env using sqlplus. Listener is also running, checked with 'lsnrctl status"

Guest and Host can ping (network) each other. I installed the guest using the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. Disabled the firewall on the guest OS before the host ping could work.

So ping works both ways from guest to host and host to guest. tnsping from host fails says "no listener". When I did a "telnet 192.168.x.x 1521" from host it said could not open connection on port 1521.

How do you open port 1521 on the guest OS to traffic from the host OS?

export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
export ORACLE_SID=VFIODSD1

when I try

XE :: Unable To Connect To XE Service When Running Cisco AnyConnect VPN

Jun 4, 2013

We have the Oracle 11g XE database installed on a Windows 7 laptop. The Oracle XE database runs fine when the laptop not connected to a network, when connected to our corporate lan, or when connected to a cable-modem. However, when running under the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client, we are unable to connect to the Oracle XE service.

I have tried to resolve this, but am stuck. I do not if this issues is caused by:
1. There is no IPv6 address listed for the AnyConnect VPN (from ipconfig /all)?
2. Something regarding split-tunnelling that must be configured on the VPN?
3. Can the Oracle XE database run under an SSL VPN?

Below is the output of when I try to connect the Oracle XE service via sqlplus.

Unix Command Run Successfully Through PL/SQL But Showing No Impact In UNIX?

May 19, 2007

I am using Oracle 9i and Unix on my system and trying to execute a UNIX shell command through external procedure in C.I created a shared lib (libextproc.so) for the following function.

int sysrun(char *command)
{
return system(command);
}

This function runs fine when caled through a driver function in C, meaning that the shared lib is fine.In PL/SQL, I have used the following method to invoke a UNIX command:-
create or replace library shell_lib as '/home/ECETRAonsite/oracle/OraHome1/lib/libextproc.so';
/
create or replace function sysrun (syscomm in varchar2)
return binary_integer
as language C
name "sysrun"
library shell_lib
parameters(syscomm string);
/

Now when I call this PL/SQL function to invoke the command, it is run succesfully but does not create the file.

SQL>
1 declare
2 rc number;
3 begin
4 rc := sysrun('/bin/touch /home/ECETRAonsite/oracle/OraHome1/test/sach');
5 dbms_output.put_line('Return Code='||rc);
6* end;
SQL> /
Return Code=0

PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.I have verified that the path for 'touch' is correct.Following are my configuration files.

Server Administration :: How To Connect Oracle Client To Remote Server DB

Jun 29, 2013

I'm trying to connect a oracle client application on the client machine to a remote oracle server on the server machine but i get a connection fail.

On the server machine I configured oracle server in the following way:

Installed oracle server. Created a database "DB_Test" with the database configuration assistant Created a LISTNER with the Oracle NET Manager with the following parameter:

Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521 Created "dbtest" service with the Oracle NET Manager with with the following parameter:
Service Name: "dbtest" Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521

All services on the server machine are running and I opened port number (1521) in the router. On the client machine I installed SQL PLUS and SQL Developer.

With SQL Plus as by the official documentation I have entered the following command:

CONNECT username/password@[//]host[:port][/service_name]. In my case is:
CONNECT SYSTEM/oracledb@//ENZOVAIO:1521/testdb.

With SQL Developer I have entered the same parameter.

But with both SQLPlus and SQL Developer the connection fails.

Windows :: ORA-12154 - Running 32 Bit Oracle Software On Server 2008 64 Bit

Oct 6, 2011

There is an issue with the 32 bit Oracle client on 64 bit windows where it cannot connect to the database throwing the error ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.

Since all the 32 applications will have the path C:Program Files (x86) on 64 bit windows, The PATH variable doesn't recognise (). This issue was there in the previous versions of Oracle Client. But the bug has been fixed in Oracle 10.2.0.3 32 bit client. Still the user is facing the same issue.

Oracle Client: 10.2.0.3 32 bit
Windows OS: Windows server 2008 R2 64 bit

I have referred document [ID 334528.1] from the metalink(which states that the bug is fixed in 10.2.0.3 client).

We are evaluating partition strategies with view to achieving performance gains in reporting in particular. How efficient are partitioned indexes in this regard e.g.

just partitioned indexes on an un partitioned table.

One large fact table with durrogate keys on which have bitmpa indexes which link to unique key in associated dimensions. Considering partitioning the bitmap index which links to the largest dimension and similarly partition the dimension key on largest dimension.

Performance Tuning :: Efficient Way To Alter Column For TDE?

Jul 4, 2013

I am using 11.2.0.3.0 version of oracle.

Now we are supposed to apply column level TDE to some of our table in database. Now it will be a 'ALTER' on the columns. it involves 4 big tables out of which 3 tables having size ~30GB(one is partitioned table) and another one ~800GB(Not partitioned) Now the concern is, what will be the efficient/safest way to apply TDE on columns, below are the two options with us. (NOTE - We do have downtime window during DB maintenance but looking at the size of the table, i suspect it might take lot.)

1. Directly apply 'ALTER' on the columns. (Note- i was testing on my local, it took 3hrs for a 30GB table to ALTER the column to TDE)

2. Use Table Redefinition for Altering the column. (Creating interim table with column as TDE and then Redefining whole table).
