XE :: Unable To Connect To XE Service When Running Cisco AnyConnect VPN

Jun 4, 2013

We have the Oracle 11g XE database installed on a Windows 7 laptop. The Oracle XE database runs fine when the laptop not connected to a network, when connected to our corporate lan, or when connected to a cable-modem. However, when running under the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client, we are unable to connect to the Oracle XE service.

I have tried to resolve this, but am stuck. I do not if this issues is caused by:
1. There is no IPv6 address listed for the AnyConnect VPN (from ipconfig /all)?
2. Something regarding split-tunnelling that must be configured on the VPN?
3. Can the Oracle XE database run under an SSL VPN?

Below is the output of when I try to connect the Oracle XE service via sqlplus.

Clusterware :: Unable To Connect Database Service?

Apr 29, 2013

We are getting problem while installing OID Infrastructure on one node.

metadata repository database: 10g R1 (10.1.0.2.0)
OID: 10g R1 (10.1.0.2.0)

We had installed in node 1 & now the partition is shifted to node2 ,But installation on OID infrasturcture, when we aretrying to connect repository database, it says, hostname:<PORT> service may not be avaialble, listener may not be up.unable to connect
orcl.test.com

whereas the service is running & listener is up. We copied inventory location and oraInst.loc and oratab file from node1 to node2, But still unable to connect metadata repository from infrastructure node. What are we missing here..

Replication :: Possible To Make Service Running Even When Node Falls?

Sep 23, 2008

I've configured a replication environment with Oracle 11g (Multi-master synchronous replication). Apparently it works fine, when replication is started any change in a table that belongs in a node is replicated in the rest of the nodes.

One of the tests I'm making is the following: Try to see what happens if one of the nodes drops. Meanwhile one of the nodes is no avalaible, any modification in an available node is not allowed (as I expected). I'm trying to see if the database service can be available meanwhile a node is missing, although the replications is not running.

What I've experienced is replication cannot be suspended until the the node was down is restarted.

Is this the usual behaviour or can I set any parameters to avoid this? In other words, is it possible the database service is running meanwhile one of the nodes is down? The application I'm working on needs this type of replication, buy also needs the service is running always?

What can I do to make possible the service is running even when a node falls?

Networking And Gateways :: ORA-12504 / TNS Listener Not Given SERVICE-NAME In CONNECT-DATA

Oct 4, 2011

I am trying to connect to Oracle 11g using ODBC.I created a data source name from Admistrative Tools->ODBC Data Sources.I selected Oracle in OraClient11g_home1 as the driver. I tested the connection and it was succesful.I tried to connect from visual studio. I used the Data Source as Microsoft ODBC Data SOurce. Selected my DSN from drop down (LORAC). I gave the user name and password and got the followign errors:

ORA-12504: TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

This is my tnsnames.ora located in C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1
etworkadmin directory.
# tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:oracleproduct11.1.0client_1
etworkadmin nsnames.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
LORAC =
(DESCRIPTION =

[code]...

When i do tnsping LORAC, i get OK. When I do tnsping of the other service name i get Failed. However when I try to connect to that service from Visual studio I get a differnt set of errors:

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

I had assumed that as the test connection from ODBC Administrator had worked I would be able to connec to my database from viusal studio. Is there something wrong in my tnsnames.ora? The content or its directory location?

Cannot Connect To Oracle Running Under A Virtual-PC XP Mode Guest

Oct 27, 2012

Host: Win7

Guest: Using Virtual PC on Win7, created a VM using XP-Mode. Installed Oracle and everything on it. I can connect to the Oracle from within the guest env using sqlplus. Listener is also running, checked with 'lsnrctl status"

Guest and Host can ping (network) each other. I installed the guest using the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. Disabled the firewall on the guest OS before the host ping could work.

So ping works both ways from guest to host and host to guest. tnsping from host fails says "no listener". When I did a "telnet 192.168.x.x 1521" from host it said could not open connection on port 1521.

How do you open port 1521 on the guest OS to traffic from the host OS?
