Get Restore Of All DBF And CTL Files To A New Server

Jul 9, 2008

We had a server that crashed and died holding an Oracle database.Lucky us that we have full server cold backups.

I can get a restore of all the .dbf and .ctl files to a new server aswell as the pfile.Previously when i have done restores i have had the database up first and done

ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROL FILE TO TRACE;

I would then delete the redo logs, tempfile and controlfiles and recreate using the tracefile.How do i go about bringing up the database without this tracefile. Do i just keep the controlfiles, temp file and redo logs and just attempt to startup? I believe i can keep all the paths the same that were on the other server.

Backup & Recovery :: Restore From Control Files

Feb 13, 2012

I had a database on an old P4 running but the motherboard got fried. I was able to recover all the data files (.ctl and *.dbf) plus the redo logs (.log). There is no export or backup taken - I have old ones, but I need to recover the latest which only existed in the data files.

I now have Oracle installed on a new P5 machine and was wondering if it is possible to use these data files in the new database? If so, how do I go by restoring the data files?

Both the P4 and P5 where running Red Hat Linux.

Application Express :: Restore App From Full Exp Or DB Files

Jan 6, 2013

I'm trying to find a way to recover my APEX application that I built during 10 months. In the first time, I tried to recover, repair, restore...etc. my corrupted database 11g1 without success, in the end with nerves, I delete everything and reinstalled 11g2. Before to delete, I copied all db files including the corrupted one (system01.dbf).

I had wrote a script in order to export after any big change in my DB, a full database (using exp tool).

So now, What I have is :

1 - New and clean database.
2 - Last full export from the older one.
3 - All db files of the old database (noarchivelog).

I can import my schema that I used in my APEX app to contain data and objects (tables, sequences, triggers, views, packages, functions and procedures). But, I can't restore the APEX app.

Is there any way to recover my app from the export or from dbfiles ?

Backup & Recovery :: Restore From Newer Control File And Archived Redo Log Files?

Mar 29, 2011

I've got a legacy SAP system with oracle 8i on Tru64. No changes at all are made but for legal reasons we have to keep it up and running.

we currently do a full backup monthly by shutting down oracle and doing a backup of all the files to tape and that takes around 12 hours.

If I stop doing the full backup and I only backup the control file and the archived redo log files every month and I had to restore the full database years from now, would I be able to restore the database using the last full monthly backup and use the latest control file and archived redo log files?

Backup & Recovery :: Restore DB From Control Files Using Symantec Backup Exec

Jun 10, 2013

I am having a issue, we are trying to restore our db from control files using Symantec Backup exec, but job fails giving me error go to table spaces select all table spaces and unchecked roll forward.

i am unable to find way to uncheck the table spaces. Here is the complete description.

Cause

The system catalog tablespace "syscatspace" contains all of the system catalog information for the tables. Syscatspace needs to be rolled forward first, and then the other tablespaces must be rolled forward.

Solution

Workaround:

When the restore operation is run from a tablespace level backup, perform the rollforward for the syscatspace tablespace first and then for other tablespaces.

Execute the rollforward operation as a DBA operation. The sequence of the recovery process should be as follows:

1. Select all tablespaces, uncheck the rollforward option and run the restore job.
2. Run the rollforward operation as a DBA initiated operation:

rollforward syscatspace to point in time / end of logs. e.g. db2 => rollforward database UEXIT to end of logs and complete Tablespace (SYSCATSPACE) online

3. Perform rollforward of all other tablespaces.

e.g. db2 => rollforward database UEXIT to end of logs and complete tablespace (SYSTOO LSPACE,USERSPACE1) online

Refer to IBM DB2 documentation for more information on DBA-initiated operations.

RMAN :: How To Restore Backup From A Server To A Test Server

Feb 27, 2013

I have two Solaris 5.11 x86 64 bit servers. I need to be able to copy the backup files to a temp location on the 2nd server and restore that server so it is a test version of the first server. There is no RMAN catalog, I simply want to backup on A move to B restore from files copied to b.

On the first server installed Oracle Enterprise 11.2.0.3. sid = orcl. i created one schema with a new table space added a table and inserted 500,000 rows.

i set the db to archivelog=on, set configure controlfile autobackup on

i then did RMAN backup as backupset database spfile;

on the second server, i installed Oracle Enterprise 11.2.03, sid=orcl exactly like i did on the first server.i scp'd all of the files created by the backup to one location on the test server. i renamed spfileorcl.ora in dbs to somethinge else. startup nomount, exit and go to rman and run this:

DUPLICATE DATABASE TO 'orcl' SPFILE BACKUP LOCATION '/tmp/backups' NOFILENAMECHECK;

this runs for a while and looks like it works but eventually fails with :

RMAN-05541: no archived logs found in target database

subsequent attempts to 'startup' the database receive the error ORA-19838: Cannot use this control file to open database.

This is very frustrating. I have gone over all of the manuals, documentation and more but there is no 'step by step' process that i can find that is current with my version of Oracle that documents the steps necessary to simply backup a db, move it to a test server to a disk and then restore that test server as a copy of the first server.

Server Administration :: RMAN Restore Failure All Datafiles

Jul 1, 2013

I am facing an issue while rebuilding a DR (Physical Standby) site using RMAN.Rman is failing to restore all the datafiles to the stanby site.

There are 403 datafiles that should be restored among which after restoring 50-60 datafiles the channel is abruptly getting terminated.Please note this exercise is not new I have done this many times (once a year after a DR testing) and the same script is being used.The rcv file is as follows

/u03/oracle/admin/mpr/scripts/dataguard/configure_dr.rcv
connect auxiliary sys/XXXX@YYY
run {
duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck dorecover;
}
exit
CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET;
configure_dr.rcv: END
[code]....

The trace file says "krso_proc_add: Detected dead process 13828326; subsuming V$MANAGED_STANDBY slot
INFO: krsr_rfs_atc: RFS processes are temporarily disallowed"

I have also started RMAN debug tracing and the trace is also scanned as it is huge.I have seen the following in the trace error 3015 signalled during compilation..I do not find any specific oracle error to check on .

The only change that happened is that the Primary production server has been moved to a new datacentre and after its move all the connections seems to be working fine.

connected to rman
startup nomount
set dbid to the live number
restore controlfile
alter database mount
catalog'd all the backupsets

but it fails when it tries the restore .. see below ..The path it is showing is the old path from the live server, so it appears to eb ignoring my set newname statements even though they succeeded earlier - should be restoring them to d:oracleoradatasun43dev ? Server Utilities :: Importing Text Files?

Sep 16, 2011

I have a rather complicated process to import text files into my DB.I'm given thousands of files every day, separated by "," and with 80 fields each. With a bash script, I take the 45 fields I need and then split each file into x number of files grouping the rows by three fields.Then I use SQL Loader to insert them into de DB.

The problem is that now I must insert on two tables and the "WHEN" clause doesn't allow the use of > and <.

To make things a litle clearer take this text file (already splited and grouped and ready to be inserted):
...
1,1,135,1900,0,12,114,2011/08/25 17:19:00,135,...
1,1,135,1900,0,13,119,2011/08/25 17:19:00,136,...
1,1,135,1900,0,14,117,2011/08/25 17:19:00,137,...
1,1,135,1900,0,15,113,2011/08/25 17:19:00,138,...
1,1,135,1900,0,16,119,2011/08/25 17:19:00,139,...
...
When field 6 is higher or equal to 14, it must go to table a.When field 6 is lower than 14, it must go to table b.I can't use external tables as I'm in a different server.
