v_chrTempKeyDept := LPAD('',3 - LENGTH(CAST(v_intDept AS VARCHAR2)),'0') || CAST(v_intDept AS VARCHAR2) ;

PL/SQL :: How To Display Pseudo Static Index Using Select Statement

Jul 20, 2012

I have to display a 24 hours time as an index. (00:00 - 23:00) That is easy, if the data exists.

But, if the data is not regularly exists on specific hour (the time/hours is not regular, i.e: 00:00, 01:00, 05:00, 08:00, 10:00, 11:00, 23:00), then it is OK for a TABLE, but not for a CHART.

Here is the story:

I wrote an SQL statement that can "choose" what to display respectively to the the available time. The result will be displayed on the chart: Days or Time is used for X-Axis, and the respective Value on the Y-Axis.

Example:

+ if the data consists of "days" (i.e: the last 5 days from now, 16/07/2012, 17/07/2012, 18/07/2012, 19/07/2012, 20/07/2012), then the chart will show those dates on the X-Axis.

+ if the data consists of "hours" (i.e: 1 single day, from 00:00 hour - 23:00), then the chart shows hours on the X-Axis.

If the 'hours' are not regular, means: there is no data on specific hours, the query result is also not regular, means: the X-Axis-value 'jumps' irregularly.

Question:

Is it possible to query our own static value?

for example:

select 'hello' from dual --> result: "hello", 1 column, 1 row

But how to display this in multiple rows, i.e.:

Time
*****
0
1
2
3
4
5
...
...
23

Note: the X-Axis on the chart template can be only customized for 1 single mode, example: "Days", but of course it is not going to show up properly if the query result are in "Hours". It means: I have to find the workaround on the SQL Query.

DB: ORA 11

SQL & PL/SQL :: Function Returning Top Value If Not Exists Then Next One?

Nov 20, 2010

how to write a function that returns top value if not exists then next top for combination of customer_id and hierarchy. For instance :

If I've got table

customer_id ,hierarchy, function_code
123 |1 | Z1
123 |2 |67
123 |3 |5B
678 |10 |S2
678 |11 |Z2
345 |2 |11

For the customer ID 123 I want to return Z1, for customer 678 I want to return S2 and for customer ID 345 I want 11

Problem is that I'm new to the concept of looping. I know how to write a function that accepts customer_id as a value write a cursor and then check IF hierarchy = 1 the return FUNCTION_CODE IF hierarchy - 2 THEN ...

but I need something more universal as some of the customers may have hierarchy function 1 and that would be the top one for him but others might have function of hierarchy 10 as top and checking all of the possibilities using if would be just stupid. So how to write something universal ? And of course if function did not find any customer_id then return null.

PL/SQL :: CASE Statement With Oracle Table Types And EXISTS?

Aug 14, 2012

I have been trying to use case statements with oracle table type by really not sure how to go about it. I know it might be simple but it been giving me hard time.

Here is my Cursor:

CURSOR c_chk_style IS
      SELECT DISTINCT 1
        FROM TABLE(CAST(I_message.ExtOfXOrderDesc_TBL(1).ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL AS "RIB_ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL")) item_diff,

[code]...

Now i know that the table type "RIB_ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL" will be always populated but the table type "RIB_ExtOfXOrderPackDesc_TBL" may not be populate and can be null. So i want to run the exists against the "RIB_ExtOfXOrderPackDesc_TBL" aliased pack_diff only if it is populated. If its null i dont want to run the exists clause.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Cursor In DML Statement Inside A Procedure

Sep 12, 2011

I have a DML Statement inside a procedure and i use a cursor variable to get the values checked as below . I have attached my procedure not completely but the declaration part and the DML statement part.

The issue is my procedure is not inserting the records at all. It selects the values and then inserts accoringly but its not selecting because of the cursor reference R_LOC.LOCATION_GID.

when i hard code the value in the DML statemnt for the R_LOC.LOCATION_GID, the rows are inserted as expected. So i guess the way the procedure executes the value is not correct.

Modifying my select part which uses cursor variable R_LOC.LOCATION_GID under Insert statement.

select d.servprov_gid, d.depot_gid, replace(d.appointment_time,'':'') appmt_time, d.'||v_day_to_use||' DayUsed
from tesco_fresh_templates t, tesco_fresh_templates_d d, location_refnum r
where t.set_id= d.set_id
and d.depot_gid=r.location_gid
AND D.SERVPROV_GID=''R_LOC.LOCATION_GID''
and r.location_refnum_qual_gid=''TESCO.IVS SCHEDULING''
and (r.location_refnum_value=''YES'' or r.location_refnum_value=''Y'')

SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Bypass Putting Select Inside Count Function In Query

Oct 21, 2012

I have 2 tables, ASSIGNMENT and RESEARCH_PAPER. For each research paper, I need to find out :

1. The number of assignments created from it (after a given constant assign date)

2. The number of assignments created from it that have been approved.

3. The number of unique users who have either created or approved an assignment from it

Test data :

create table research_paper (id int, name varchar2(100));
create table assignment (id int, r_paper_id int, assigner_id int, assignee_id int,
approver_id int, assign_date timestamp, approved_yn varchar2(10));
insert into research_paper values (1, 'A');
insert into research_paper values (2, 'B');

[code]....

Assignment :

id r_paper_id assigner_id assignee_id approver_id assign_date approved_yn
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11 100 200 100 23-10-12 12:00:00.000000000 AMY

32 100 200 101 24-10-12 12:00:00.000000000 AMY

[code]....

Research_paper:

id name
----------
1A
2B

Expected result :

r_paper_id created approved unique_users
-----------------------------------------------
1 3 2 4
2 3 2 3

I wrote the following query for that :

SELECT rp.id r_paper_id,
COUNT(*) created,
COUNT(
CASE
WHEN a.approved_yn = 'Y'

SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Select A Column Dynamically Inside A Query

May 1, 2011

I have a problem executing a function.

There are two tables,

1. Table with column names of a second table mapped to certain variables.

ex: Table1
col1, var1
col2, var2
col3, var3
--------
--------

2. Table with the values for columns as given in table 1 ex:

col1, col2, col3, col4, col5,
a , aa , 1 , x1 , p
b , ab , 2 , x2 , q
c , ac , 3 , x3 , r

I have to select values from table2.col1 do some processing and calculate values and store it in a table then do the same thing with col2 and so. This needs to be done for all the columns that appear in table1.For example in table 1 i have only three columns mentioned thus i have to process col1, col2 and col3 from table2. col4 and col5 will not be processed since they do not appear in the first table.

The problem is i have hundred columns in table 2 and the user can add up to hundred columns in table 1 as and when it is required.

I have created a cursor to first select column name from table 1 where variable is not null. For each value in cursor i put it in a local variable.

Second step is to select values from table2 where instead of column name i am using the local variable. But the problem is instead of choosing values from col1 the query returns the value as col1 (the value of local variable)

How To Use The NVL() Function In Statement

SELECT class, COUNT (class)

SELECT class, COUNT (class)

It returns two columns: class and the total number of values in that class.

In some cases, there might not be any values under a certain class, so the query won't return anything.

In such a case I want the query to return 0. So what I want to see is:
