Apr 10, 2013I've been developing for many years in pl/sql and c-shell scripting (Unix) for managing ETL processes in order to load and perform data into databases and data warehouses.
Even if I've rarely used tools like Pentaho and never used Oracle Warehouse Builder, according to you is it possible to claim that an analyst/programmer has developed ETL processes only by using classic developing (plsql, c-shell, external tables, ...)?
For a forthcoming new project I'd like to work for as a data warehouse analyst/programmer for ETL processes, I'd like to know whether I can claim to be able to write ETL procedures even if I don't use data integration tools.
SQL & PL/SQL :: Bind Variables / Developing Stored Procedures In Developer
May 16, 2010Am using Oracle 9i and developing stored procedures in SQL Developer. Have a situation where one stored procedure A is calling another B. Stored proc B builds the SQL based on parameters passed in. For one of the parameters i would like to use a bind variable in the SQL that proc B builds. The bind var is passed back to proc A as a part of the SQL string. In proc A, i then try to bind that variable to a parameter(value), however, the bind does not seeem to work.
The SQL string contained in v_SQLStatement defined as VARCHAR(4000) that is passed back to proc A looks like:

Jul 8, 2013I am tasked to develop and application using Apex 4.2.2.00.11 and Oracle Database 10.2.0.4 on a Windows 2003 Server. This application needs to support different time zones. Briefly, a user in timezone A should be able to create a record with a date in timezone B and the users should be able to view the records in their timezones. What is the best method? Should I maintain a Timezone field for each user site or even per transaction, or is using "Automatic Time Zone" feature in Globalization section of Application Properties sufficient? I have developed Apex applications before, but they did not have to have different time zones, so I am not sure how I should build my database schema. Do you guys store everything as UTC and display values based on user's Timezone setting? I am aware of the Timestamp with Local Timezone data type.

Apr 12, 2013I have task. I am using oracle forms 6i. I want to import excel data to oracle forms(its common task using ole2 package). But this time I want to map the columns i.e my database table having 5 columns. and the excel file is having 2 or 3 columns then i suppose to map those columns and accordingly insert it to my table.
So far i have import column heading of excel to oracle forms, then i've provide list item for mapping each column. so that user can map excel column to database columns. Now I am confuse how to write the code so that selected columns should get inserted into database.

I have table with columns id, name, location, address, plan. in those columns i need to insert records form excel. user having a excel with 3 columns col1, col2, col3. on the form i've fetch column headers of excel and in front of that i've provide database column list , so user can match excel column with database column. e.g.
COL1 --> list value of database column
COL2 -->list value of database column
COL3 -->list value of database column
Once user map those column i want to insert those values into my database table (table with columns id, name, location, address, plan). and i am confuse about this code.

Background: There are 2 application ( Front end: one in oracle forms - deals with accounts module and another in some legacy application - deals with patient, clinical and diagnose module) using and sharing the same Oracle 9i database.
Patient related modules are moved into another database ( java as a front end, oracle 10g as backend ) which is normalized - eliminating duplicate tables and column, also its tables and columns names are not matching with existing (patient)system.
Now the requirement is making the existing application related only to Accounts module ( having complicated business logic written in packages ) to work as it is without changing the code, design drastically.
Questions:
1. Now how best this task can be completed without affecting existing Accounts system drastically ( with minimal changes )?
2. what are the possible best approach to achieve this ?
3. what are the best way for communicating the 2 DB in this scenario ( may be creating synonym, views etc ) ?
4. What are challenges that needs to be addressed ?
Forms :: Connection Between 6i And Oracle Database 11g
Jun 8, 2011I´m just having a problem whit the connection between Oracle Forms 6i and Oracle Database 11G. Is just when i login to the database schema i cant log in using Forms.
TNS Names its already configured, No problems when i log in using Toad and using the TNS Names from Developer's 6i tool. I can log in just when i change the schema(user) password from the database (thats the rarest thing) and log into the application.
So whenever i want to login to the application i must to change the schema password, i need to use it directly.

I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete.And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.
I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?
1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site

The errors are : Procedure entry point 'BlaBla' could not be located in the Dynamic Link library 'AnyName'.
I notice that i have 2 versions of the libraries in OracleHomeBIN (one version 8, one version 11). The programs that start the OracleAgent,Service and DataGatherer call the old libraries but expect to find values that can be found only in new libraries.

Jun 13, 2012I have a requirement to put together a Oracle SQL template to create re-usable DDL/DML Scripts for Oracle databases.Only the Oracle DBA will be running the scripts so permissions is not an issue.
The workflow for any DDL is as follows:-
1) New Table
a. Check if the table exists from the system/admin views.
b. If table exists then give message "Table Exists"
c. If table does not exist then execute DDL code
2) Add Column
a. Check if Column exists for a given table from system/admin views
b. If column exists in the specified table,
b1. backup table.
b2. alter table to make changes to the column
b3. verify data or execute dml script convert from backup to the new change.
c. If Column does not exist
c1. backup table
c2. alter table to add column
c3. execute dml to populate column with default value.
The DML scripts are for populating base tables with data required for business operations.
3) Add new row
a. check if row exists by comparing old values of each column with new values to be added for the new record.
b. If exists, give message row exists
c. If not exists, add new record.
4) Update existing record (We have createtime columns in these tables so changes can be tracked)
a. check if row exists using primary key.
b. If exists,
b1. deactivate the record using the "active" column of the table
b2. Add new record with the changes required.
c. If does not exist, add new record with the changes required.
Forms :: Update Database Item When Non-database Item Is Manually Updated?
Mar 10, 2011I am having trouble changing a non-displayed field when a displayed field is changed.
When a user wants to un-assign a territory they want to just null the ID field (non-database item). I then need to null the PIDM field(not visible, database item) for that one record.
I tried this, but I end up putting null on all the records instead of just the one record, which ends up un-assigning all the territories not just the one.
Is there a way to assign the null to the PIDM field associated to the ID field of that particular record.
