I have a RAC environment with 3 nodes and application using Oracle Form Reports that access the database. Every day the application cause many locks on database when execute insert, update and delete. I don't understand why so much locks. Are there a way to avoid this? Always I have to eliminate session causing locks.

we know we can see lock mode held in session can be analysed using LM column in v$lock.But i confused in seeing LM column it all shows in numbers from 0 to 6.
eg

modify this script to show the table name, rowidwhich is locked?

Just noticed MR(media recovery lock ) in our database,further check showd all datafiles had this lock since our database was shutdown abortly but was startup gracefully.

From v$session view,i found sid and serial# and at same time i queried dba_jobs and saw one jobs is running at this time.Now how to compile this object.
We are experiencing tx row lock wait time over hours. There is no blocking session and it seems that the application hangs. What is funny is that when we gather_stats on the tables, those tx row lock wait are being released.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a doubt in locking user account in oracle database.I was told to drop some unusable users in database which my clients dont require them.I verified the dependent objects of those users but not sure if these users can be dropped.
Instead can i make those user accounts locked so that they cannot connect to database? Would there be any impact on database performance if i lock those user accounts?
Is locking an account and dropping users is similar in anyway?
i am trying to install Oracle 10.10.2.0 on Windows Server 2003 standard x64 Edition Service Pack, but when i try to run the installer or open DVD it gives me below error.

I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server.
2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database.
3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus).
4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?

I recently installed Oracle 10g on my windows Xp laptop. It has become considerably slow since then. I want to start the database server only when I need it, and not every time I start my laptop. I looked around in OEM and did found a way.

A command at the OS level to find total cpu used by each of the above databases.
I installed Oracle 11g and created a test database in that the default count should be 4196... but it is 4143.. some packages are missing.. even when i'm creating materialized view it is showing some error that packages are missing. what can i do for that? I'm not an Oracle expert, but I have research a little and seems that the SID could be wrong or that the DB is down, in fact I have already checked trhe server but everything seems normal to me.
Yesterday i installed oracle 11g r2 by default i installed database Oracle with the installation .but today i tried to create the database with the name green tat also completed successfully..the problem is in startup

sqlplus '/ as sysdba'

database mounted
select instance_name from v$instance; But it SHowing the instance name as Oracle...i tried with the other method also

and it shows instance name as green..i tried to see the datafile location for green database
select file_name from dba_data_files; it shows the orcl datafile locations.
When I try to log into my db with a specific user I get this message. Below is from the alert log. I can login as system just fine.
