Recently I came across this issue, which gives me an error as following.
ERROR:
ORA-22835: Buffer too small for CLOB to CHAR or BLOB to RAW conversion (actual: 4907, maximum: 4000)
Now I am running a very simple query against one of the View in our Database.
Query is:
Select Prj_Num,
PM_Comments
From ProjectDetails
Where Rel = ‘2008 10’
What I have discovered so far is one of the field in this view name “PM_Comments” has more than 4000 bytes of information in it, Which is not supported by tools I have available on my computer. I have Oracle SQL Plus, SQL plus Worksheet, Access and Excel installed on my machine. DBA related to this database are stating that the field is working fine and query is executing without error since they are using TOAD for SQL, which does have capabilities to read more than 4000 bytes.
What I have figured out so far is “PM_Comments” is a LOB and SQL plus is having trouble reading this information more than 4000 bytes in one field of information.Because of this diagnosis, I have tried using following queries but it did not useful either.
Select Prj_Num,
Substr (PM_Comments, 1, 4000)
From ProjectDetails
Where Rel = ‘2008 10’
Select Prj_Num,
DBMS_LOB.Substr(PM_Comments, 4000, 1)
From ProjectDetails
Where Rel = ‘2008 10’
But both of the above mentioned queries did not work either. and I get the same ORA-22835 Error.I do not need all of the information in “PM_Comments” field, I only need about first 1000 characters of it.

I have to change the datatype of a column from CLOB to varchar2, without changing the order of the columns. The table has no data.
I could find any other way other than dropping the CLOB columns and then adding new columns with varchar2 datatype. But this changes the order of the columns in the table.

I use the "Media Resource" RESTful service type to generate custom JSON objects via CLOB-returning functions. This worked great in APEX Listener 1.1.3. However, on APEX Listener 2.0 I get status 500 on a RESTful service which works fine on 1.1.3 (which generates a clob > 4000 bytes), and the following in the server log:
SEVERE: ORA-22922: nonexistent LOB value
oracle.dbtools.common.UnrecoverableException: ORA-22922: nonexistent LOB valueThis seems to be the same issue as reported here:
APEX Listener EA2 Standalone CLOB error
As stated by thoechst in that thread:
>
It is as though the function is getting cast as a varchar2 somewhere. I verified that the function will correctly return a large result to other sources (dbms_output, for instance).

I'm facing a problem where I create a form and I want to feed time in "HH:MI" format, Firstly I choose the "Date" datatype, but during the feeding of time i.e "00:30", means if I want to feed only mints, then it doesn't accept, at the other hand if I feed "01:30" means mints with hr then it accepts.
To get rid of this problem I changed datatype "Date" to "Varchar2".
I create 3 columns on my form "TTL_WORKING_TIME" - "TTL_RUN_TIME" = "BRK_DWN_TIME". If I get any value in "BRK_DWN_TIME" column thn it has to be distribute in 3 or 4 reason of B/D, means if I get 00:30 mints brkdwn thn 00:15 mints for "reason1" and 00:15 mints for "reason2".
How I make calculation where I use "Varchar2" datatype.

I'm struggling with a problem for quite a while now and can't find any solution online so far ...
OK I got three different Tables
cust_tbl:
customer:id
nuxx :1
naxx :2
baxx :3
suxx :4
[code]...
As you see, I only need the Customer one time followed by part, amount and address - separated hyphen - comma, next part, amount, address and so on ...I've tried the PIVOT way and STRAGG (wm_concat) but all failed so far.The main problem is that when one customer fits more than one condition, ora throws: ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one row

We are using 10G Forms and Reports against a 8I database (DB1) which has a link into another 8i Database (DB2).
DB2 has been upgraded to 10G. The application works fine but when I try to compile the forms in form builder I get an "ORA-03115, unsupported network datatype or representation." error.
The error occurs where the code in the form references the link directly. Other code where we created views to hide the link name works fine. BTW Same code works fine in SQL Plus 10G & Toad.
I have tried changing the type of variables & different columns but that did not work.

I'm trying to concatenate a local phone number field. The LDAP system only has the last 5 digits but for the directory database we need all 7 digits.I've tried every combination I can think of to get the concatenation to work but every combination results in just the first two digits being imported, e.g.,
LOCAL_NUM "'20'||:local_num",
results in just 20 being imported. Every iteration I've tried that didn't result in an error imported only the 20 and ignored the ||. I've also tried calling the CONCAT directly, e.g.,
LOCAL_NUM "CONCAT('20', :local_num)",
result is the same. The problem seems to be that the loader is ignoring the concatenate statement all together. I've tried the statements outside of the loader via sqlplus with expected result so I'm confused as to why it's not working within the loader.
