SQL & PL/SQL :: Hierarchy Record Manipulation?

Jun 13, 2011

Ihave the following result set based on a hiearchy query

SELECT LEVEL ,
BM.ITEM item
BM.Part part
connect_by_isleaf leaf
FROM item_part_tab bm
START WITH bm.item_id='002PH'
CONNECT BY BM.ITEM_ID = prior BM.PART_id

LEVEL ITEM PART LEAF
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1 002IT XPART1 0
2 XPART1 SUBPART1 1

In the above resultset PART='SUBPART1' does'nt have any child as evident from the connect_by_isleaf (LEAF=1) .Is there any way to create a pseudo record if such values are returned by the query, i.e., if a part has no tree under it a dummy record should be created i.e. in this case an additional record should be returned by this query. i.e., as below. the LEVEL=3 record should be created.

LEVEL ITEM PART LEAF
---------------------------------------------------------
1 002IT XPART1 0
2 XPART1SUBPART1 1
3 SUBPART1 1

SQL & PL/SQL :: Display Date Ranges In One Column As Separate Date Periods (start And End Date) In Two?

Jun 1, 2010

I'm trying to work out how to take a table like this:

IDDate
12502-Feb-07
12516-Mar-07
12523-May-07
12524-May-07
12525-May-07
33302-Jan-09
33303-Jan-09
33304-Jan-09
33317-Mar-09

And display the data like this:

IDPeriodPeriod StartPeriod End
125102-Feb-0702-Feb-07
125216-Mar-0716-Mar-07
125323-May-0725-May-07
333102-Jan-0904-Jan-09
333217-Mar-0917-Mar-09

As you can see, it's split the entries into date ranges. If there is a 'lone' date, the 'period start' and the 'period end' are the same date.

So if I was doing it against sysdate, I would want the result to be 10/24/2003.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Oracle Date Conversion Errors

Mar 14, 2011

I am having a strange issue with date conversion. The errors encountered are :

PLS-00382: expression is of wrong type
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to '>'

The situation or test case is as follows:

create table sand_programs(prog_code varchar2(20), prog_end_dt date);

create table sand_program1(prog_code varchar2(20), filing_date number(15));
Result : Both the tables are created.

Now I create a procedure below as mentioned, to check if the filing_date is greater than the prog_end_dt or not.If the filing_date is greater than prog_ end_dt, then it should go to the 1st "dbms_output.put_line" message else it should go to the 2nd "dbms_output.put_line" message.

Here's my procedure:

create or replace procedure test_sand(p_program_cd in number) is
v_prog_end_dt date;
v_filing_date number;
begin

SQL & PL/SQL :: Date Diff (Month Not Day) Equivalent In Oracle

Jun 16, 2010

I see month aging buckets in the Oracle Application I am using (Keystone time and billing). I need to do a query in directly in Oracle (Toad front end to Keystone database) using month aging buckets . I use the following in Access that matches the results in Oracle, but I need to work directly in Toad because I want to avoid having to bring over all the dates when I want to summarize by buckets.:

2-4 Months: Sum(IIf(DateDiff("m",[invoice date],forms!Reporting_Standard!txtlastdayofmonth) In (2,3),[Outstanding Gross],0))

I know about getting the difference between two dates and that works fine for day aging buckets, but I need months, which can deal with months that are different sizes.

Date Error When Migrating SQL Server To Oracle

Apr 3, 2013

I am migrating SQL Server database to Oracle. But the tool I am using can not covert the date type columns, hence I am stuck with tables which have peculiar date types.

For example: The column "DATECAPTURED" in table "SIGNATURE" in SQL Server database has values:

2013-02-15 10:03:48.387
2013-02-15 10:01:05.930
2013-02-15 09:59:07.197
2013-02-15 09:50:15.797
2013-02-15 09:39:15.557
2013-02-15 09:37:12.643

Why can not oracle be able to accept this kind of date format? :( I thought it's more intelligent than SQL server :)

My workaround is to change all date types to varchar2(30).

i thought the oracle form and sql*plus don't have such link..i can add the tables i have created in sql*plus into the form.

Application Express :: Unable To Set Default Date Value For Tabular Form DB Date Field?

Dec 3, 2012

Version : 4.1.1, I have a tabular form on a DB table. One of the columns is a date field. When the user hits the "add Row" button on the tabular form, I want the Date field to be defaulted to sysdate. Here is what I have tried so far,

1. Created a "hidden" item P1_SYSDATE and populated the default value with sysdate. After this, under the DB tabular report date field, I used default type - Item/application on this page and entered P1_sYSDATE

2. Instead of populating the default value of the P1_SYSDATE hidden item, I created a before regions process and added

:P1_SYSDATE := sysdate

and added P1_SYSDATE to default type of the tabular date field with default type as "ITem/application on this page.

I get the error

ORA-01790: expression must have same datatype as corresponding expression

I tried to_Char(sysdate,'dd-mon-yyyy') and then converting it back to to_date. still no luck.
