What is the script for creating SQL directory in UNIX.
Create or replace directory CONFIG as 'c:Config'
I have new virtual UNIX machine and I installed oracle client on /usr/lib/oracle. Also I have a oracle database and I am able to connect to this database from my desktop sql developer.
So now I am trying to connect from new UNIX machine. Where I created tnsnames.ora file under /usr/lib/oracle/network/admin and before connecting did export the following
export TNS_ADMIN=/usr/lib/oracle/network/admin
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
export ORACLE_SID=VFIODSD1
when I try
# sqlplus
username :xxxxxxx
password : xxxxxxx
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist. Not sure what I missed here. using same tns file I am able to connect from sql developer on windows.
An application uses one user as a container of objects(this user is stripped of ALL privileges), and other users that can access objects in this unique schema depending on their privileges.
There can be multiple installations of the application in one database, therefore many such schemes. An environment variable APP_UNIQUE_SCHEMA points to a current unique schema.
So instead of typing
select * from my_unique_schema.my_table I want to set a current schema for sqlplus session in glogin.sql.
It would have been nice if I could have entered in glogon.sql the following line
alter session set current_schema=$APP_UNIQUE_SCHEMA;
BUT it does not work. sqlplus does not resolve the reference to an environment variable. I cannot figure out how to get the value of an environment variable in sqlplus.
> id -a
uid=56088(appadm) gid=50120(dba) groups=50120(dba)
> sqlplus / as sysdba

why?
How I can connect database on unix OS and windows what is the deference.

How can to get only the SQL output in the file but not all the other oracle connecting messages.
When I delete a table in Toad it takes only a one or two second until I receive success message.
But with SQL*Plus on UNIX I canceled the operation after 5 minutes:

can we use oracle client version to create a database in that server.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any setups required for creating a utl file using sql developer. If yes, what are the setups to be done.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to pursue pl/sql developer as my carrier.So I would like to create a setup in the following manner in my windows 7(64 bit) laptop.Since I heard that,In real time the setup will be look like as follows
Windows7 as front end
Toad --> to practice Pl/Sql(Preferred use in windows7)
Solaris OS (To install Oracle 10g in Solaris & practice scripting)
Virtual Box (Open source tool to run both windows and solaris)
How I can create setup so that I can accomplish following things(To gain knowledge in programming/scripting).
1.Both OS has to be run simultaneously with Virtual Box So that
Oracle will be running in backend(Solaris)
2.Practicing Oracle Pl/sql in Toad (Windows7)
3.Practicing shell scripting in Solaris.
Is it possible to create the setup as i mentioned above.
I want to ask if we could create a sub folder using the SPOOL command. I tried the following but it gave "Cannot create Spool file" error.
SPOOL C:TESTABCABC.sql
where TEST is already present in the C drive whereas I want SPOOL command to create a sub-directory named 'ABC' and then create the spool file 'ABC.sql' isnside it.
Is this possible ? My OS version is MS XP.
If i create database on server(remote desktop connection) and try to some R&D like shutdown or startup command it will effect my other database or not.

We have an application that fetches and writes data into oracle database through pro c. oracle datyabase is on another server.
We are storing some secure information into oracle database so we want to encrypt the data sent by our aplication into oracle database.We do not want to use SSL(i.e certificates) and also do not want to make use of Advance Security Option available in oracle and also do not want to make any changes in sqlnet.ora file on server side.
achieve encryption of traffic between our application and Oracle database?
I want to read all the files present in a directory of client's machine.
However I have achieved this by creating java class in database but the problem is it accesses the directory of machine on which database is installed not the client's machine.
I have oracle client and I tried to access local directory of client's machine to read all the files in that directory but it didn't work.
However, I achieved this by creating one java class for ex. test.class and I run it locally through command prompt but I want to achieve it using Pl-sql.
which are recommended Tool for load testing (for performance) on Oracle-J2EE, 3 Tier applications?
Is 'Oracle Application Test Suite' the best for such test where we can simulate numbers of users and their various actions?
Does it come with Oracle Database license or we have to buy it separately?

How to create directory with pl/sql that's use in oracle form in trigger when-button-pressed or how to use function webutil_file.create_directory();
I am attempting to read from the maillog of our server, but I wish to make as few changes as possible for fear of blocking other systems access to the file.
I was initially going to call create directory maillogs as '/var/log/maillog' and then drop directory maillogs; when I was done but I found my user does not have "create any directory" permissions.
Rather than compromise security of the existing database configuration, I thought I would permanently add the maillogs to the list of available data directories. Are there any implications to the filesystem if I do this, or should I be able to add this without consideration of affects.
Understand that I will only be opening the file for (R) READ TEXT access only.
Primarily I am concerned that Oracle (in the background) will keep a file pointer open or something of that nature that would block other programs from writing to the file even after I close the file pointer. I want to make as little impact as possible to the file system.

I'm looking for 3 simple things.
1) A reverse engineering tool that I can point to an Oracle schema and get a "baseline" script to re-create that schema from scratch, with decently formatted DDL files (1 per object) neatly organized in a directory tree (by object type) and called in the correct order. Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to populate (insert) those tables as part of the script.
2) a diff tool that I can point to a pair of Oracle instances (source and target) containing a given schema and get a "delta" script to alter the target schema so that it becomes identical to the source schema. If data loss occurs on the target instance (i.e. drop a column) I would like to find a warning comment inserted in the script (e.g. "-- Attention: data migration DML needed here?"). Icing on the cake would be an option to pass the tool a list of tables containing static data and get DMLs to update (delete, update and insert) the data in the target tables to become identical to the contents in the source tables *without* deleting and re-inserting all rows (or dropping, recreating and repopulating the table).
3) I would like the above two tools (that, as you will have recognized, are basic to putting your database design under version control) to be open-source, with a command-line interface and a vibrant community backing them.
I am using Oracle 9i and Unix on my system and trying to execute a UNIX shell command through external procedure in C.I created a shared lib (libextproc.so) for the following function.
int sysrun(char *command)
{
return system(command);
}
This function runs fine when caled through a driver function in C, meaning that the shared lib is fine.In PL/SQL, I have used the following method to invoke a UNIX command:-
create or replace library shell_lib as '/home/ECETRAonsite/oracle/OraHome1/lib/libextproc.so';
/
create or replace function sysrun (syscomm in varchar2)
return binary_integer
as language C
name "sysrun"
library shell_lib
parameters(syscomm string);
/
Now when I call this PL/SQL function to invoke the command, it is run succesfully but does not create the file.
SQL>
1 declare
2 rc number;
3 begin
4 rc := sysrun('/bin/touch /home/ECETRAonsite/oracle/OraHome1/test/sach');
5 dbms_output.put_line('Return Code='||rc);
6* end;
SQL> /
Return Code=0
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.I have verified that the path for 'touch' is correct.Following are my configuration files.

My developers want to connecting using the SID or the SERVICE_NAME and by using the "New Method" syntax, not the "Old Method" syntax. According to the documentation the "New Method" syntax works with the SERVICE_NAME or the SID. The "Old Method" only works with the SID.
