Backup & Recovery :: What Is Data Block Check Sum Algorithm
May 18, 2013It seems that Oracle does not use XOR to calculate the checksum of data blocks any more. What is the new checksum algorithm?

We are facing block corruption error and it's refer to system datafile (SYSTEM01.DBF).Below is the script through it, we can come to know about the extent.
select segment_name, segment_type from dba_extents
where file_id=1 and 134144 between block_id and block_id+blocks-1;
select owner,index_name,index_type, table_name from dba_indexes
where index_name='I_CDEF3';
How to resolve the problem as it is related to system datafile? We tried to drop the index but system is not allowing to do.

I can go for dbms repair package and restore and recover
Would like to check how do we check the current value for limit channel in rman backup..
eg set limit channel d1 kbytes 2024800;
Does change in segment size effect the rman backup size..??
I'm trying to understand do Rman backup the empty block from datafiles..?? And if it escape the empty block than inserting data in tables (increasing the number of used block) might change the size of total backup (Rman) size
I am trying to calculate the compressed size of backup of my database by excluding table space ( and all the tables in that table space).
I know how to calculate the size of particular user DB size.
select sum(bytes/1024/1024)"size" from dba_segments where owner='ABC';
Is there any view in oracle 9i like V$RECOVERY_FILE_DEST where we can check the archive destination space utilization from database end ?

I have one procedure to check duplicate but what I remember that there is something very smart provided from oracle to do that.
I am facing issue of block corruption in my exp backup which I am taking through expdp command. (Refer Attachment of Screen shot of error)
I want to know few things about the block corruption.
1. Why the block corruption occur.
2. How can I resolve this.
3. Can I rosolve this by deleting the same record on which this error is coming. if yes then how can I track that row in a table.
I already tried for DB verify utility. It shows the below result.

I need to demonstrate and contrast various recovery techniques, such as dbms_repair, RMAN block recovery, and Data Guard automatic block repair.
I'll end up with a shell script (or batch file) where I can enter a file number and block number, and wipe out that block.

As in the disk-only scenarios, the backup scripts in this section are categorized based on database workload. as stated very clearly it depends on the workload, more precisely the rate of block change. The size of the database can be found out based on formula from

The size of the change tracking file is proportional to the size of the database and the number of enabled threads of redo. The size is not related to the frequency of updates to the database. So how do I determine the rate of change? can the rate of block change based on size of archive logs?

i want to enable block change tracking as our incremental level1 backup take a lot of time but i have a worry which i found it on oracle support and tha is as follows Database Instance Hang at Database Checkpoint With Block Change Tracking Enabled. [ID 1326886.1]
View 2 Replies View Relatedi did such commands
1. RMAN -> backup incremental level 0 database;
2. SQLPLUS -> alter database enable block change tracking using file '/home/oracle/block_change_tracking.tr';
3. RMAN -> backup incremental level 1 cumulative database;
4. RMAN -> backup incremental level 1 cumulative database;
5. RMAN -> backup incremental level 1 cumulative database;
and for such order i noticed that block change tracking file wasn't used for any cumulative backup. for each cumulative backup was done full scan over database.
it was used after i did incremental level 0 backup, and again incremental 1 cumulative.
if i want this feature to be usefull i should enable it before my incremental level 0, or i should do incremental level 0 immediately after i enable it?
I have in my database table 2 important date columns: StartDate (Not null) and EndDate(Allowed Null).I want to ensure that all records in the table would always create perfect contiues date ranges with no holes inside.Wor example there may not be records [1-may..1-may, 3-may-...] because there would be a hole [2-may...2-may]. Holes are not allowed.
And overlapping is not allowed, for example [1-may..1-may, 1-may-2may, 3-may-...] is not allowed because overlapping occures on day 1-may. Overlapping and holes are not allowed. But it is allowed that table has no records at all. But all DML manipulations with existing records must ensure that overlapping and holes won't occur.How to write such check? How to ensure that data ranges would stay continous with no holes and no overlaps?

how to resolve this problem?
We are attempting to configure/use OEM (Oracle 10.2.0.4) on Solaris, and when logging in to OEM we are directed to the Database Down page, stating Enterprise Manager is unable to connect to the database instance, but showing all the components as up/open. After checking the log, I found the following error:
IO exception: Unknown Encryption or Data Integrity algorithm
I checked the settings in emoms.properties and compared the encryption parameters to those in our SQLNet file, and all match up. We are NOT using Grid Control, just db control connecting to 1 instance.

I have an oracle autoback of controlfile and spfile. I am trying to restore the production database using this backup, into a new server with a different directory structure.
I have completed the following steps in the restore process.
1. Creating a pfile from spfile
2. Changing the the location of cdump, udump, bdump and the control files ( there are three )
3. Then creating a spfile from this pfile
I am stuck on the next step where to rename all the datafiles and tempfile and restore the database. Following is what I did.
After mounting the database in RMAN, tried to run the following.
RMAN> run
2> {
3> allocate channel c1 device type disk
4> ;
5> @/home/oracle/rman_scripts/newloc.rman
6> SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '/u02/oradata/dorian/system01.dbf';

We are trying to restore a database on the different server using RAM incremental level 0 and 1 backups. We have weekly Incremental level 0 backups along with incremental backups on daily basis. During recovery of Incremental level 0 backup, RMAN is expecting/looking for Incremental Level 0 backup of prior week as well. Is this the usual process for RMAN to look for prior level 0 backup though we need to restore from the current level 0 backup and roll forward by a week with subsequent Level 1 backup.?
We intend to restore from the Level 0 of 1/16 and roll forward with daily incrementals till 1/22. RMAN is expecting level 0 backupsets from 1/9 backup as well and keep failing since those backups are not available. quick inputs since we are in middle of recovery and trying to resolve if this is even doable.
db can only be opened if all the datafile and controlfiles are synchronize.I wonder if db crash and we dont have any kind of backup. is there some way to synchronize the control file with the datafile?....any way.db is not idle either when crashes we can manage data lose.just want our database open
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy server hard disc crashed yesterday and i don't have any backups.
I am able to recover the .dbf files by using a recovery tool.
is it possible to use this .dbf files into new server and recover my data.
Yesterday my colleague noticed that, the complete data (1 year) got missed out from a table and the data is available only from last friday.
And then we restroed the data from the backup.
Now we have been asked to find out who has deleted or truncated the data? But in the database, audit is enabled only to log sys operations.
So is there any way to find who ran the delete or truncate command on this DCA_CLA_BATCH table on friday?
SQL> show parameter audit
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ -------------------------------- ------------------------------
audit_file_dest string /dborafiles/edcap/edcapd/adump
audit_sys_operations boolean TRUE
audit_syslog_level string
audit_trail string OS
Replication happens across the servers to make sure that the data is the same (synchronized). If one of the server crashes and later recovers, does it need to repair the data to keep them in sync with the other servers?
