i have two questions.
(1) how can i fill some value in a table column based on some existing column value automatically without user intervention. my actual problem is i have 'expiry date' column and 'status'. the 'status' column should get filled automatically based on the current system date. ex: if expiry date is '25-Apr-2011' and current date is '14-May-2011', then status should be filled as 'EXPIRED'
(2)hOw can i build 'select' query in a report (report 6i) so that it will show me list of items 'EXPIRED' or 'NOT EXPIRED' or both expired and not expired separately in a single report based on user choice. 'EXPIRED' & 'NOT EXPIRED' can be taken from the above question no. 1.
I am running a report which is called for a set of employees picked up in the cursor. For each employee the report is run in a different window. However, the report runs fine and the output gets saved in the local machine but the window doesn't get closed automatically.
How to close the reports window automatically without manual intervention?
I've a 6 column report where col5 is set to expand vertically (based upon comments) and works wonderfully. Col6 is a single character column, therefore does not expand so the report looks rather messy.
I would like col6 to expand in accordance to col5. Is it possible?
Need to access data in a table base on user parameter input where the data is stored like a spreadsheet with column headings JAN, FEB, MAR... and the rows are the years. Is there a way to create a generic SQL statement so that I don't have to have 12 if statements in the procedure?

Since the column is small it can fit in a page more then one time. I know how to make it print more then once: i switch the repeating frame to print down and across and i modify the frame that contains it so the horizontal elasticity is variable.

I have table in Oracle with one column PRODUCT. Column PRODUCT have following values -

I am designing application where I need to search for PRODUCT based upon user's input. Lets say user wants search on 'Laptop Account Broken'. I want to search for all products which contains any of words in user's input. So based upon user's input I want output like below.
Expected Output:

I am creating a report which generates the data to a PDF/CSV based on users Input.When I create the report using Report Builder and execute the report,Delimited data appears in a PDF layout.
But if I add the below code in After Parameter Form trigger,the column headers keeps repeating with the data.

But the PDF output seems fine where the header is shown only once.I could see many posts regarding this in Oracle reports 6i wherein delimited_hdr=no is used in Command Line but I would like to know the work around in Oracle reports 10g.
I had created a new table named USERLOG with two fields from a previous VIEW. The table already consist of about 9000 records. The two fields taken from the VIEW, i.e. weblog_views consist of IP (consists of IP address), and WEB_LINK (consists of URL). This is the code I used,
CREATE TABLE USERLOG AS SELECT C_IP, WEB_LINK FROM weblog_views;
I want to add another column to this table called the USER_ID, which would consists of a sequence starting with 1 to 9000 records to create a unique id for each existing rows. I'm using Oracle SQL Developer: ODMiner version 3.0.04. I tried using the AUTO-INCREMENT option,
ALTER TABLE USERLOG ADD USER_ID INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT;
But I get an error with this,
Error report: SQL Error: ORA-01735: invalid ALTER TABLE option 01735. 00000 - "invalid ALTER TABLE option"

1) How to add a new column to the existing table's particular position, instead of atlast.
2) I created a table without mentioned the datatype size as below Create table dummy (name char, age number). Then what is the default size will be allocated for those column's?
display values in descending order( as got from fomula column). i put that field in above group and got properly. now i want to sum these values at the end of report. its going to some distinct values, while i want all values to be sum.

I try to change SQL by doing this it does add that new column into group but when i try to run report i can not see that changes . then i try to do some changes in paper layout but i am not able to bring the changes in out put. i am new to this FORMS Reports . do i have to create a group again i am how can i change the layout in that report.
I have one hirarchical query which return the parent to child hirarch level data. it has 11 level child data. i want to create column based on number of child in hirarchy. though i know it is 11 but it can change also.Is there any way i can create the column dynamically
I have wrote this code behind a formula column which take the image from a server. The name of the image and location is carried out from database. When ever there is new record new name of the image is posted in this formula column. But when the file is not present in the location it gives error. When the error occur i cant able to view the report. The error says 'You cant run the report without layout'. When all images are present in the directory then report runs fine.

I am facing a problem in leave_form report! want to show employee's previous leaves detail (leavedate,leavetype), i don't want to show leavetype 'PPP' repeating frame type is Across/Down, there are 22 records of leavetype 'PPP' and one record of leavetype 'CL'
problem is report is showing 22 records of leavetype 'CL' of same leavedate!
i want that report should show the actual leavedate and leavetype records.using 9i database 6i developer server2003

I am working on a report which shows a summarized data from 4 different tables. I have 2 columns which shows certain amount.
The data in both the columns comes from different table.
I want to compare these 2 columns for which i placed a formula column in data model. the code goes this way:

The compilation is successful. but when i am running the report i am getting an error Rep-1517 :Column 'CF_RECV_PAY' references column TOTAL_IOU_AMT and EXP_AMT has incompatible frequency.
I am facing some challenge while running update query on newly added column in existing table.
Environment Details Oracle 9i, version 9.2.0.6 Os Unix Aix 6.1
No of records in table : 12572770
Below are the step i followed.
1. In table testtablename, I have added new column COLUMNNAME29 with datatype VARCHAR2(8). 2. After adding the new column, i executed the update query to populate the data form COLUMNNAME1 to COLUMNNAME29. 3. The query is executed using COLUMNNAME24 in where clause, to drive query in index based.

1. The update query is hanging in database, it's not progressing (In single update, approximately 40000 records will get update) 2. No oracle error thrown in alert log or in session where the query being executed. 3. The event for the query is "db file sequential read". 4. When i update the newly added column COLUMNNAME29 with static value "1", the update completed successfully in few seconds. 5. Then i changed the static value to "1111" and executed the update statement, which result to query hanging in database. 6. I tried to update the existing column(COLUMNNAME1) in table with static value "1111", the update completed successfully.

Recently I am facing a problem while working with Oracle reports 2.5.
My requirement is: there is a report in which there are 5 columns right now. Now what i want is, whenever a condition will satisfy , a new column should be also display in that report otherwise it must be stay as it is.
Previously : a b c d Now if a=1 : a b z c d else a b c d where a,b,c,d,z are columns.
in one of the data base some of the column values are TE. i wanted to serch in what are the tables this TE values are present. so m running the below function
