Windows :: Connect Client Oracle 64bits To DB 64bits?
Apr 15, 2011
The following error message occured when i connected from a client 11.2.0 (64 bits) to a database installing with a 10g 64 bits.
"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider.Oracle client and networking components were not found.These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until these components are installed. "
Is there any requirement like the client has to be installed with a 32 bits version of oracle because Windows restrictions?
The current config:
The server: Windows 2008 (64 bits) with Oracle 10g (64 bits).
The client: Windiws 2003 (64 bits) with Oracle 11.2.0 (64 bits).

I am creating a cross platform database application using Mono. It uses oracle database as back end. I used ODBC drive to connecting database. I can connect to database using this following connection string in my windows machine
Driver={Oracle in OraDb11g_home1};Server=localhost;Uid=system;Pwd=manager
For Linux I uses Linux Oracle OS for Database server. I installed oracle client in my fedora OS. and cofigure the client using net cofiguration assistant tool with oracle client. client connection working OK. Then I try to connect with my mono application using the following connection string
Driver={Oracle ODBD Drive};Server=orcl;Uid=system;Pwd=manager
but the above connection string not worked.I am using Oracle 11g version. Do I need to install any other ODBC driver to access oracle database

The problem is that this connection errors when I try to connect using my SQuirreL client. My developers want to connecting using the SID or the SERVICE_NAME and by using the "New Method" syntax, not the "Old Method" syntax. According to the documentation the "New Method" syntax works with the SERVICE_NAME or the SID. The "Old Method" only works with the SID.
# Host name is vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com
# SID is sting2
# SERVICE_NAME is sting2.na.sas.com
PROBLEM using SID errors ==> jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2
THIS WORKS using SERVICE_NAME ==> jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2.na.sas.com
I am using SQuirreL Client version 3.4.0
# Here is the tnsnames.ora entry on the server.
STING2 =
(DESCRIPTION =
[code]...
# In this documentation it says, "On new syntax SERVICE may be a oracle service name or a SID."You can find this on the orafax wiki under JDBC#Thin_driver.
# I was able to connect with the "old method" using the SID only, SERVICE_NAME errors jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521:sting2.na.sas.com
(SQuirreL client error, "Unexpected Error occurred attempting to open an SQL connection.")
jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521:sting2 (this works)
# "New Method"
jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2.na.sas.com (this works)
jdbc:oracle:thin:@vmwwin7634.na.SAS.com:1521/sting2 (this errors)

I have new virtual UNIX machine and I installed oracle client on /usr/lib/oracle. Also I have a oracle database and I am able to connect to this database from my desktop sql developer.
So now I am trying to connect from new UNIX machine. Where I created tnsnames.ora file under /usr/lib/oracle/network/admin and before connecting did export the following
export TNS_ADMIN=/usr/lib/oracle/network/admin
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/lib/oracle/
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin:$ORACLE_HOME/bin
export ORACLE_SID=VFIODSD1
when I try
# sqlplus
username :xxxxxxx
password : xxxxxxx
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist. Not sure what I missed here. using same tns file I am able to connect from sql developer on windows.

We have a .NET application on windows server 2008 32bit using the stored procedures on an Oracle 10g environment. We are trying to deploy the .NET application onto a 64bit x86 Windows server 2008.
We face an error trying to install the x64 version of the Oracle 10g client on windows 2008. The error we get is Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: javaw.exe
Is the x64 version of the Oracle 10g client certified for Windows 2008? Has anyone successfully installed the 64bit version of the oracle client on win2008?
We have a workaround in place with 32 bit version of the client running with the 32 bit version of the .NET application on x64 win2008. However to maximize the infrastructure we need to use the 64 bit version or we would have to turn to MSSQL Server .

I am having a problem understanding the relationship between users and databases within Oracle. I have a user "big" that logs on successfully on another machine to database "s7s" but on a different machine fails to connect.
The following may be interesting:-
<?php
$SGMDBUsername = "big";
$SGMDBPassword = "big";
$SGMDBName = "s7s";
$conn=OCILogon($SGMDBUsername, $SGMDBPassword, $SGMDBName);
[code].......
If I on the new machine issue the command sqlplus big/big. I successfully connect and see the tables I am looking for.

I have TOAD 8.6 installed and hoping to use with Oracle 10g databases. I have SQL Navigator also - it works fine. However TOAD does not. Open up TOAD and see the TNS dropdown, select a database and try to log in - click on Connect and the little SQL hour glass comes on, goes off - there is no error, no message and no connection. I have tried several databases and again, SQLPlus, SQL Navigator are both working fine.

We have a Oracle 10g database in the server. We are trying to connect to the server using oracle6 client and we are able to do so. How ever when retrieving the "time stamps" field , getting an error "ORA-03115: unsupported network datatype or representation". I understood from the error that, the client version need an upgrade.
How ever , We have another server which is having Oracle6 installed in the server and hence If i install/upgrade the client in my local system , I will be having trouble.
My question is , is there any way to get the timestamps from oracle6 client with out any issue.

I installed Oracle 10g XE and Toad 10.5 in my home system.I am able to connect to Oracle from Oracle XE homepage and XE SQL command line but when I try to connect to Oracle from toad 10.5 I am getting the error 'TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified (XE)'.From toad I tried direct and TNS options but it did not work. My tns ora file looks like below.
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Anu-PC)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
)
)
TNS_ADMIN variable has correct parameter and Toad is directing the correct TNS file. I tried changing hostname with my system's ip but still I am unable to connect to Oracle from Toad.

I have been researching this issue and trying to install any Oracle 10 or 11 client on my new Windows 7 (64-bit) computer for two days. I read on the following link:
[URL].......
that such a client exists. where I can get it and whether any special steps are required to perform the install? I have tried the following:
Install 10gR2 and 11gR1(for x64) after downloading from Oracle. In each case, I ran the setup file from the zip file and tried again by unzipping and running the setup.exe as the administrator. In most cases, I got the error from the compatibility check that the Oracle install would not work with 6.1 (NT6.1, I think).
I tried one suggestion of modifying the refhost.xml file to list 6.1 as an acceptable OS, but then my install failed when oui.exe quit running.

We currently have a windows 2008 server running our virtualization administration application (VCenter server 4.0) which uses a 10g client 32bit ODBC driver to connect to our 10g database server. This is the emulated 32bit driver in sysWOW64 folder.
I need to upgrade VCenter, which needs to use the 64bit 10g ODBC driver. Have installed the 102010_win64_x64_client on a test server which gives me the correct 64 bit driver.
My question is can i install two clients onto the same windows 2008 server without causing operational issues while i run pre upgrade checks?
