I have a diskgroup with normal redundancy level (2 two failure groups) working fine. I desire add a new failgroup to diskgroup (changing the redundancy level to high).
Which ASM process will manage the copy of data to new failgroup? Are there some way to control or tuning this process?
About the concept of quorum failgroup ORACLE says:QUORUM disks, or disks in quorum failure groups, cannot contain any database files,the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR), or dynamic volumes. However, QUORUM diskscan contain the voting file for Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS). Oracle ASMuses quorum disks or disks in quorum failure groups for voting files wheneverpossible.
To sum up, i think the different between a regular failgroup and a quorum failgroup is a quorum failgroup can only contain vote files and a regular one can contains multiple kinds of files.So i didn't see any advantage to place voting files on a quorum failgroup than on a regular one. Why Oracle introduce the concept of quorum failgroup?

1) Currently we have no unique key / primary key defined on both of this tables, due to the nature of data, so insert/update will not work
2) We cant truncate/insert as user will be accessing this tables when the copying process takes place, so we dont want to end up having a scenario where the table does not contain data at a certain time

As in the given example you might have noticed that ADDRESS of wife is same as of her spouse and same goes for IS_MARRIED column. Moreover, the PK is also not duplicated. How to go about this?
Another important factor is Lynda already exits in PERSON table, therefore, i certainly don't want to duplicate her entry.

I am developing an application for making the travel entries for my organization employees.

The form is working properly for single booking entry. But when I want to make a group booking wherein many employees have to travel between common locations I have to fill all the travel details again for all employees. The special characters do not get translated. So I tried the CONVERT function: line_desc_reformed := CONVERT(line_desc_reformed, 'WE8MSWIN1252', 'WE8DEC').
All gets translated except for the tick mark after the d. It gets replaced by an upside down? I have tried several different language sets and can not get that to convert.
also when using the dbms_xmldom to convert this to xml, the also gets replaced by an upside down ?. I don't belive you can change the charset when using this package.

Triggers for oracle database. What I am trying to do is copy original data from one table to another table prior to an update, insert, or delete occurring. A client of us has given us a new requirement to write batch extracts from an operational database. While that per se is not the issue it is the peculiar circumstances that have made it a bit of head ache.
i. The database is an operational system (for telco billing)
ii. THe data from key tables of events etc. has to be replicated to downstream systems like the data warehouse, reporting areas etc. every 15 mins.
iii. Needless to say there are about 50 million records to unload from the table.
iv. The tables are partitioned and tuned for operational purposes.
v. The dba are a bit touchy (surprise!) about persons accessing their db directly for unloads
vi. There is no stand by or replication from this database
So, given the above what would you experts recommend as an option. We had recommended a golden gate based solution however that has is thought of long term solution as it will involve purchases and some POC. Would be grateful if persons can enumerate options, tools, 3rd party options or oracle design solutions .

I have developed PRODUCTION module in factory and it is working fine and now I want to send data on daily basis to head office therefore I develop a form which will create backup in export format (.dmp) then user will send via email to head office.
Backup file should be save in pre-defined location then user will use a form which I developed for loading data into head office there are two different buttons in this form;
First is used to load data, actually first I load data in a temporary user which creates whenever user will press this button. Second is used to copy data in application user but first it checks if data exists then update otherwise insert.
We are copying our transaction tables data into another database for our reporting applications (say every day midnight refresh will happen).
The Transaction Database has some 30tables. Existing system is following below points and it is taking 2hours to complete.
1) Truncate data from reporting database (or schema)
2) Direct path Insert into reporting database (or schema) as select * from transaction tables.
3) Rebuild index and Enable constraints.
Note: Each tables data will vary from 30lakhs to 50lakhs. Dump/import/export is not advised by the client.

I have a requirement to extract data from an XML formatted string that is passed as an IN parameter to a database stored procedure. I do not have a table to store the XML, nor an XML schema, nor a namespace, just the XML string. While new to XML, I do understand the basics. Using XMLTable I am able to parse out the simplest of XML data. My problem is this; attempting to extract data from nested XML nodes results in the error
'ORA-19279: XQuery dynamic type mismatch: expected singleton sequence - got multi-item sequence'.
Testing a solution example I found on this site by Barbara Boehmer, I still get the ORA-19279 error. I suspect it may be because I have version 10g while she has version 11g. Her solutions is from #msg_514154. Here is that code that gives me the error:

im on 11G R2 database on linux 5.4, while configuring a physical standby from scratch, remember i dont want to use RMAN, when i copy datafiles from primary to standby, is it necessary to shutdown primary and then copy datafiles ? or i can use SCP command and copy even though primary is up in read write mode?
