I am struggling with a simple data load using sqlldr
Ref: I am running Oracle 11.2 on Linux 5.7.
===========================
Here is my table:
SQL> desc ntwkrep.CARD
Name Null? Type
[code]...
Looking at the actual data and counting the characters for the "REALIZES" column data, I see that it is roughly slightly over 1000 characters.
So, attempting various ideas to fix the problem, I tried changing nls_length_semantics to "char" and recreating the table, but this still didn't work and still got the same data load errors on the same rows.
Then, I changed nls_length_semantics back to byte and recreated the table again.This time, I altered the table manually as:
SQL> ALTER TABLE ntwkrep.CARD MODIFY (REALIZES VARCHAR2(4000 char));
Table altered.
SQL> desc ntwkrep.card
Name Null? Type
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------- --------------------------------------------
CIM_DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(255)
CIM_NAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(255)
COMPOSEDOF VARCHAR2(4000)
[code]...
Here is a copy of the first row of data which fails to load every time no matter how I change the "REALIZES" column in the table.
other(1)`CARD-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1` `other(1)`CARD-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1 [other(1)]`HwVersion:C0|SwVersion:12.2(40)SE|Serial#:FOC1302U2S6|` Chassis::CHASSIS-mes-fhnb-bldg-137, Switch::mes-fhnb-bldg-137 ` Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1.23, Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1.21, Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1.5, Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1.7, Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-137/1.14, Port::PORT-mes-fhnb-bldg-

After exporting some data to excel, I noticed that on one row all the columns shifted over some. So I queried this record in the database and noticed that the ADDRESS field has some unknown characters at the end of it. They are little squares. I think they are TABS.
2630 LINDEN BLVD, APT. #8G(2 squares are in here)
ADDRESS_1 "TRIM(:ADDRESS_1)",
Besides trimming the data, is there some other function I can use to clean up the address further?

I found that it happens in concurrent request in my app. Ofcourse including that Protocol Violation stuff sometimes.
More scary is that due this a query sometimes doesn't finish executing. Try closing down the connection and you'll lock up the entire app.

I have a data in text file which has around 7 laks lines. I need to import those data into a table in oracle then do some process.
Since this job is done by end user, i have created a form with the following process.
Create a single text file from multiple flat files in client system. Run the application from the application server [ which is unix based ] once the text file is uploaded to the server, read the text file line by line and insert into the table.
The above process works perfectly in test eniviroment which I have as stand alone system. When I move this to application server and execute it, the session got killed after an hour and I got network inturpted error.
I would like to know is there any other method instead of reading line by line and insert into a table. I do not want to use the tools like sql Loader etc since I do not want my user to do lot of things.

I am using perl script to dynamically generate the control file.If I have data in the control file as well as in the datafile, how would i write the control file in that case. Is the below one correct?
load data
INFILE '*'
INFILE '/export/home/test/test.csv'
INSERT INTO TABLE EMP fields
terminated by "," optionally enclosed by '"'
trailing nullcols
( empno, empname, sal, deptno )
[code]....
Is there any way that if my control file contains half of the data and my data file contains the other half of the data can i club this data into a logical record in the control file to populate the DB?
My exact 2nd requirement is, my DB contains 5 cols and for 1 col the data is common(countryName) which i have to pass to the control file dynamically and the .csv file contains the data for the other four cols. How could i combine these in the ctrl file and populate the DB?
so if the DB contains CountryName, empid, ename, sal and dept..I will get the CountryName to the ctrl file and csv contains the data for empid, ename, sal and dept. How would i combine these data into a logical record and populate the DB?

My requirement is to to truncate the table and load it with the data present in file. In the control file, I used the "TRUNCATE" command as well.In case, if the file has some invalid data and sqlldr fails, my existing data will be lost. Is there any option in which the sqlldr does not TRUNCATE the table in case of a failure.
