We have a 9208 Prod Database running out of 9i binaries in a HP UX Machine. We want to upgrade it to 102030.We tried upgrading it once and we failed .Oracle came back saying we need to apply a binary patch on the 10g Oracle Home as the error we faced is a bug. This is HP UX machine and there are no 10g databases running here.
.Management has asked to do a test run so that upgrade does not fail again.Unfortunately we do not have an identical test env in this case to test the binary patch.
Here is how we planned.
1)We make a copy of the existing 9208 Database in the same machine as a new SID i.e Clone to a new SID and make it up and running. 2)We apply the binary patch on the 10203. 3)Attempt the upgrade .If it goes fine we are good. 4)If the upgrade does not go fine and brings up new surprises(Say Oracle come back and says another patch is required),Will we have already done irreversible damage to our 10g binaries ?
Is there a good way to revert back the upgrade ? Will the inventory be corrupt?
Is there a way to get back to old binaries if the applied patch did not work or if Oracle says to apply new patch.? Finally will all the above create an issue to the existing 9i Database?
I have to create/configure the environment for the database having high volume of the transactions nearly 10000 transactions per day and at peak time nearly 1500 transactions per second.
RAC can be one of the solution but that comes up with high cost. I googled for this type of environment configuration, what could be possible settings need to be configured for this environment configuration in both RAC and Non-RAC.
I am calling a select query inside a procedure but i need to set environment variable 'set linesize 200' inside that procedure but i am not able to create the procedure due to some error. I am attaching the procedure query here with:
before the select query i need to insert this environment variable : "set linesize 200"
i am reinstalling oracel 11g in my window 7 64 bit machine after i uninstalled it. however, i got an issue that is environment variable path failed in the installation process. this didn't happen when i firstly successfully installed oracle.
I'm facing problem with archive log file size, Archive logs are generated with only of 90m or 92m or 94m(Variable sizes of less than 100m), Although i had set 100m for each of my redo log file. Here i'm providing my create db script for your reference. I want to know why the log switches before it reaches 100m.Is there any connection of intial 10m for my .dbf files.
I am using HP laserjet 1020 plus printer with windows xp sp2 and reports builder 6.0.8.8.3. Problem is that printer does not print the reports generated by d2k i suppose printer command is not sent to printer. My another printer HP laserjet 1160 can print the same reports without any trouble.
I'm trying to move my backup sets from windows database environment, to OEL 5.7 environment on another server.
I've found a manual [URL] by which I am trying to do it.I took backup sets from last night's backup using RMAN,and the current parameter(initSID.ora) file from the running live database. Now i need to configure control files in the pfile accordingly.
1. can i take current control files from the running system, to restore and recover backup sets from last night, to the state the database was at backup time?
2. how can i find out if control files are backed up and know by RMAN? "list backup completed after '2012-JUN-19';" >> gives me Archive redo logs, datafiles, but don't see the control files(or don't reconize them).
I exported oracle database from one server in a dmp file. then i imported it in another oracle database server. when i saw the imported data the columns which were storing german data is in rubbish characters.
then i remember that the database from where i exported is having nls language as german. i executed this statement to set the nls on the new server
alter system set nls_lang=german SCOPE=SPFILE
but now my database is not getting started always giving me error - cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
i also set the path NLS_LANG=german in the solaris environment.
i am using client-server environment without using a domain. On One computer i have installed Oracle 8.0.5 and developer 2000. and on client side i have installed form 6i. i have made a service (star) in Tnsnames.ora in client side.
I am trying to generate dynamic control file, as the files I want to upload are coming from different source and their name is constantly changing but following a fix pattern and naming convention.
I am able to generate dynamic control file through SQL. But while calling from BATCH file, i am unable to sent the file name as parameter.
All the examples i have searched are for UNIX, how to do it with BATCH File in WINDOWS.
i am trying to install Oracle 10.10.2.0 on Windows Server 2003 standard x64 Edition Service Pack, but when i try to run the installer or open DVD it gives me below error.
"The image file D: is Valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine."
I was trying to delete the database in the test server. When i was deleting listener was already stopped, i continued deleting using dbca, it shown me some alert that datafiles cant be deleted because system could't find database, since listner was stopped so only service was deleted(the one showing in the windows administrator toolsservicesOracleServiceTEST).
All the datafile parameter files are still there. How can i delete the datafiles and parameter files belongs to that database or how to create the deleted service, so that i will start the listener and do the complete deleting of the database.

I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server. 2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database. 3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus). 4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?
SELECT SYS.GV_$SESSION.OSUSER, SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.SPID, SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE, SYS.GV_$SESSION.PROGRAM, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.PROGRAM ,SYS.GV_$SESSION.SQL_ID FROM SYS.GV_$PROCESS, SYS.GV_$SESSION WHERE SYS.GV_$PROCESS.ADDR=SYS.GV_$SESSION.PADDR and SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME='TEST' and SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE like '%hostname%'
I have database in single server. I already have ORACLE_SID=stagedb. So i want to create new sid and named as proddb. Is it possible have multiple db in single server? This server not running as RAC. It run as single only.

I want to install Oracle 11g R2 in windows 2008 64 bit server. How can I know whether my server is ready to install Oracle ie is all components are available in server or any patch is to be applied etc.
I'm trying to connect a oracle client application on the client machine to a remote oracle server on the server machine but i get a connection fail.
On the server machine I configured oracle server in the following way:
Installed oracle server. Created a database "DB_Test" with the database configuration assistant Created a LISTNER with the Oracle NET Manager with the following parameter:
Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521 Created "dbtest" service with the Oracle NET Manager with with the following parameter: Service Name: "dbtest" Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521
All services on the server machine are running and I opened port number (1521) in the router. On the client machine I installed SQL PLUS and SQL Developer.
With SQL Plus as by the official documentation I have entered the following command:
CONNECT username/password@[//]host[:port][/service_name]. In my case is: CONNECT SYSTEM/oracledb@//ENZOVAIO:1521/testdb.
With SQL Developer I have entered the same parameter.
But with both SQLPlus and SQL Developer the connection fails.
