Server Administration :: Set Environment Variables?

We have an application, where we invoke a URL pointing to a folder on the Application Server, so that users can download files from the same.
There is user authentication provided for the URL.
Example :
Our application ABC (example) which is built with Oracle Forms 10g, hosted on Application server (itxxx123) inovkes a module GEN9999 which on pressing a button calls a URL which is open in the Internet Explorer browser.
If the URL has been called from the Forms or the Application (ABC), then it should be allowed.
If the URL is called standalone, by Opening IE Browser and invoking the URL, this should not be allowed.
However, there have been security concerns raised during Audit, saying that users can access the URL directly from the Browser instead of the Application. Also the URL is saved the Browser history, so even if the user is no longer working in the Application Team, and has moved out of the team, then the ex-user can still access the URL and view and download files.
Is there any way to restrict access to the URL such that is only accessible when it is called from the Application, and that access is restricted when directly called from the Browser.
I have seen that environment variables in httpd.conf may be usable for the above. However, not sure how to use them from Oracle Forms.
I have an 11g installation on a school harddrive that doesn't seem to have any of the environment variables set properly. Even ORACLE_HOME is not set. How can I fix that situation and how many environment variables need to be defined?
Also some of the Oracle scripts seem to use the forward-slash rather than the back-slash for paths. Will Win7 care?
An application uses one user as a container of objects(this user is stripped of ALL privileges), and other users that can access objects in this unique schema depending on their privileges.
There can be multiple installations of the application in one database, therefore many such schemes. An environment variable APP_UNIQUE_SCHEMA points to a current unique schema.
So instead of typing
select * from my_unique_schema.my_table I want to set a current schema for sqlplus session in glogin.sql.
It would have been nice if I could have entered in glogon.sql the following line
alter session set current_schema=$APP_UNIQUE_SCHEMA;
BUT it does not work. sqlplus does not resolve the reference to an environment variable. I cannot figure out how to get the value of an environment variable in sqlplus.
I have to create/configure the environment for the database having high volume of the transactions nearly 10000 transactions per day and at peak time nearly 1500 transactions per second.
RAC can be one of the solution but that comes up with high cost. I googled for this type of environment configuration, what could be possible settings need to be configured for this environment configuration in both RAC and Non-RAC.
After settig the proper environment whenever I issue startup upgrade at the SQL*Plus prompt i get the following error.
ORA-07217: sltln: environment variable cannot be evaluated.
I have 3 other databases on the same machine that I successfully upgraded without encoutering this error.
I'm trying to move my backup sets from windows database environment, to OEL 5.7 environment on another server.
I've found a manual [URL] by which I am trying to do it.I took backup sets from last night's backup using RMAN,and the current parameter(initSID.ora) file from the running live database.Now i need to configure control files in the pfile accordingly.
1. can i take current control files from the running system, to restore and recover backup sets from last night, to the state the database was at backup time?
2. how can i find out if control files are backed up and know by RMAN? "list backup completed after '2012-JUN-19';" >> gives me Archive redo logs, datafiles, but don't see the control files(or don't reconize them).
Which of the below is considered a bind variable. In example one proc. Test the parameter p1 is directly used in the query, so this can be considered as a bind variable.
Is that true about the second proc. where p1 is assigned to a local variable v1 , or this needs hard parsing because v1 is not a bind variable ?
Create or replace procedure test(p1 IN VARCHAR2,p_refcursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR) IS
BEGIN
OPEN p_refcursor FOR select * from Test_tab WHERE item=p1;
END;
------------
Create or replace procedure test1(p1 IN VARCHAR2,p_refcursor OUT SYS_REFCURSOR) IS
v1 varchar2(100):=p1;
BEGIN
OPEN p_refcursor FOR select * from Test_tab WHERE item=v1;
END;
Can a server (node) have more than one databases in RAC environment?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are running a brower based client application in a J2EE container on weblogic, connecting to the database using proxy authentication from a connection pool.
We want to set the logging level in the front end, which should set a PL/SQL package/session variable to the respective value.
Any subsequent calls to the DB layer (stored procs) would then log appropriate messages depending on what the logging level has been set to.
The trouble is that the calls to be database are not persistent and in different sessions, and therefore the second call (i.e. the call to the stored proc) would not 'know' what the first call (to set the package variable) has done.
Alternatively we can change all the stored procedures to accept an input parameter denoting the logging level, but I am sure there are other better options.
I exported oracle database from one server in a dmp file. then i imported it in another oracle database server. when i saw the imported data the columns which were storing german data is in rubbish characters.
then i remember that the database from where i exported is having nls language as german. i executed this statement to set the nls on the new server
alter system set nls_lang=german SCOPE=SPFILE
but now my database is not getting started always giving me error - cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
i also set the path NLS_LANG=german in the solaris environment.
i am using client-server environment without using a domain.On One computer i have installed Oracle 8.0.5 and developer 2000. and on client side i have installed form 6i. i have made a service (star) in Tnsnames.ora in client side.

I am trying to generate dynamic control file, as the files I want to upload are coming from different source and their name is constantly changing but following a fix pattern and naming convention.
I am able to generate dynamic control file through SQL. But while calling from BATCH file, i am unable to sent the file name as parameter.
All the examples i have searched are for UNIX, how to do it with BATCH File in WINDOWS.
i'm a student currently learning database administration security.
I need to create a tablespace for administration of database but i don't know what datafile settings are best suited for admin usage.
I have attached the schema that was given to me for this assignment.
My manager is asking to create a SQL scrip, which will provide following information.
Our database is 9.2.0.7.0 on Windows 2000 Server
-How many records Insert / Update or Delete daily in my Oracle database?
- Check Archive log / Redo Log switching information?
-Check database growth ?
i am trying to install Oracle 10.10.2.0 on Windows Server 2003 standard x64 Edition Service Pack, but when i try to run the installer or open DVD it gives me below error.

I was trying to delete the database in the test server. When i was deleting listener was already stopped, i continued deleting using dbca, it shown me some alert that datafiles cant be deleted because system could't find database, since listner was stopped so only service was deleted(the one showing in the windows administrator toolsservicesOracleServiceTEST).
All the datafile parameter files are still there. How can i delete the datafiles and parameter files belongs to that database or how to create the deleted service, so that i will start the listener and do the complete deleting of the database.

I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server.
2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database.
3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus).
4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?
SELECT SYS.GV_$SESSION.OSUSER, SYS.GV_$SESSION.USERNAME, SYS.GV_$PROCESS.SPID,
SYS.GV_$SESSION.MACHINE, SYS.GV_$SESSION.PROGRAM,

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect a oracle client application on the client machine to a remote oracle server on the server machine but i get a connection fail.
On the server machine I configured oracle server in the following way:
Installed oracle server. Created a database "DB_Test" with the database configuration assistant Created a LISTNER with the Oracle NET Manager with the following parameter:
Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521 Created "dbtest" service with the Oracle NET Manager with with the following parameter:
Service Name: "dbtest" Protocol: TCP/IP HOST: server pc hostname (ENZOVAIO) or server machine address ip (192.168.0.71) in the network lan Port Number: 1521
All services on the server machine are running and I opened port number (1521) in the router. On the client machine I installed SQL PLUS and SQL Developer.
With SQL Plus as by the official documentation I have entered the following command:
CONNECT username/password@[//]host[:port][/service_name]. In my case is:
CONNECT SYSTEM/oracledb@//ENZOVAIO:1521/testdb.
With SQL Developer I have entered the same parameter.
But with both SQLPlus and SQL Developer the connection fails.
We a running oracle9i database and forms 6i application.
We have 4 gb ram size and sized the sga for 700mb pga for 400mb for past 4 months there is no problem.
Now from last week we encounter the server hang, and we do restart. How to check reason for hanging.what are all the check list to carried out.
we have oracle server. we have to connect 500+ client machine to oracle server.
is it i need to install client version to all 500+ or any other shortcut way?
We performed image copy of production Oracle server (OS and instances) to a backup server. After a few weeks, we try to restore a latest Oracle database backup from production server to backup server. As we know, Oracle instance must be unique on the network.
Even we log on to backup server and bring up the instance, I think that still point to production instance since all init file, TNSNAMES.ora and listener file are still same. If we restore the database, we will end up bring down the production instance and restore on top of productions. How to change instance name on backup server including TNSNAMES, sqlnet, listener files in order for us to restore Oracle database from production to backup server?
I recently installed Oracle 10g on my windows Xp laptop. It has become considerably slow since then. I want to start the database server only when I need it, and not every time I start my laptop. I looked around in OEM and did found a way.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed oracle 11g Release 11.1.0.1 on windows server 2008.I access this server from a client machine running on winXP through SQL PLUS. I wanted to shutdown and start DB server from this client machine. Accordingly i issued shutdown immediate command from SQLPLUS.
Now when i tried to start the DB with "STARTUP NOMOUNT" command i received error 12514. I understand this error means that the listener received a request to establish connections to a database but since DB services are not up and running, hence the error. So my first question is how do I resolve this error.
Continuing further, i tried to re-connect to the database as sys, and i received another error ORA-01041. So, my second question is why did i receive this error and again how can i resolve it
may be you can point me to relevant reference in Oracle documentation) how can i start and stop oracle from a client machine using SQL interface in CLI mode and windows environment and avoid this error.
