May 7, 2013we have given shutdown abort to a database.At the next startup SMON process will do instance recovery. If it contains committed as well as uncommitted transactions on what basis or how the SMON process will roll forward or rollback the transactions and from where it will get these informations or data?

Sep 14, 2011I have create a mview using a dblink with the refresh difference of every 10min. Suddenly I check the mview refresh date and time it was not getting refreshed automatically at the time interval specified.

Feb 13, 2013I am trying to find the unix process for one of my application in the database but I am unable to view the same. To simulate, I did the following.
1. My database runs on different server.
2. I invoked "sqlplus" from another unix box to login to the database.
3. I found that the process id (ps -ef |grep sqlplus).
4. When I execute the below mentioned query it does not display the process id that I am looking for. But the osuser, username, program and machine details are correct. How can I know the process details from the database?

Shutting Down Database Getting Error
Aug 20, 2012while i am shutting down the database, i am getting below error message.
SQL> shutdown immediate;
ORA-01116: error in opening database file 170
ORA-01110: data file 170: '/x01/CQ_Request/ORADATA_FILE/otlmedium_data08.dbf'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 3
and also i know otlmedium_data08.dbf file is not exist in that location. how can i overcome this error and shutdown the database.

Dec 5, 2010All nodes in RAC environment are available.But sessions are not load balanced for one/some of them.
Checking alert log the following oracle errors can be found:
alert_<INSTANCE>.log
ORA-21779: duration not active
ORA-06512: at line 1
The root cause of the problem is SMON that is not clearning up some transient types.
I've noticed this effect in Oracle 11g release 1, but there is a chance it happens for early Oracle versions.
