Server Administration :: Column Limit Same For All Types Of Table

Aug 10, 2010

Question 1: What is the no of column limits in a single table? Is it same for all type of tables.
Question 2: How to estimate the size for a table in advance with "undo generation amount, index size, redo log size"?
Question 3: What is the real time scenario for creating a table on another schema?
Question 4:I read the below line in a document, but I'm not able to understand it

"we can't move types and extent tables to a different schema when the original data still exists in the database"?

Server Administration :: Reorganization Includes A Table With A LONG Column

Jan 18, 2012

I am trying to reoarganise a tablespace with Enterprise Manager from manual to automatic, but script generation gives the following warnng :

Quote:Reorganization includes a table with a LONG column. To support reorganization of tables with LONG columns that are greater than 32Kbytes the external procedure MGMT$REORG_MOVELONGCOMMAND must be configured properly. It has been determined this external procedure is not currently configured as expected. Configure SQL*Net appropriately to allow it to call the external procedure service process.

I made changes suggested by [URL] ..... in the section Using Reorganize Objects with LONG Columns but the warning persists. I noticed however that $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnmuc.so is an empty file (0 bytes).

SQL & PL/SQL :: Column Validation For Types And Storing Data For Subtypes?

Apr 3, 2010

I have following structures:

SQL> CREATE TYPE address_typ AS OBJECT (line1 VARCHAR2(20), city VARCHAR2(20), COUNTRY VARCHAR2(20));
2 /

Type created.
SQL> CREATE TYPE phone_typ AS OBJECT (area_cd VARCHAR2(10), phone# VARCHAR2(10));
2 /
Type created.
SQL> CREATE TYPE phone_list_typ AS TABLE OF phone_typ;

[code]...

My questions are:

1. I have created an object table person_obj of parent type. I have not created object tables of salesperson_typ and customer_typ and want to store data related to both in person_obj. What is the difference between storing data in an object table of parent type and object table of subtypes? In which case should I consider storing data of all subtypes in an object table of parent type instead of object tables of individual subtypes?

2. Second question is regarding validating the column values before the creation of object instance. Suppose before creating an instance of salesperson_typ, I want to check if salary is NOT NULL and greater than 0. I guess constructor is the only option to achieve this but how full-proof it is if constructors are used for this purpose? Is there any other alternate way?

SQL & PL/SQL :: Using EXTEND In Nested Table Types?

Mar 4, 2013

need to use Extend() in nested tables in Oracle? What could be the problem if I do not use this method in my code?

I have a nested collection type (TABLE OF VARCHAR2(32)) declared in my package. My stored procedure takes the TABLE type as input and inserts that data into a database table.
I see that my code works fine without using EXTEND method.

How To Limit The Table Size

Oct 9, 2012

I have a problem with one table.. First of all:

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production

The problem table resides in a locally managed tablespace. About 10 millions records is added in this table every day. After 36 hours all these records moved to another (partitioned) table, so the size of data in the problem table always about 75 Gb. But the size of table is reached 157 Gb today, and it still growing. The results of dbms_space.space_usage are showed below:

Size of blocks with:

0-25% free space: 4726784
25-50% free space: 17301504
50-75% free space: 24920064
75-100% free space: 102418669568
full blocks: 54761594880Thus, a lot of blocks have 75-100% free space but the table constantly growing: during last 9 days the size increased from 123 to 157 Gb.

how to stop the table growing? It there any way to limit the table size in locally managed tablespace?

PL/SQL :: CASE Statement With Oracle Table Types And EXISTS?

Aug 14, 2012

I have been trying to use case statements with oracle table type by really not sure how to go about it. I know it might be simple but it been giving me hard time.

Here is my Cursor:

CURSOR c_chk_style IS
      SELECT DISTINCT 1
        FROM TABLE(CAST(I_message.ExtOfXOrderDesc_TBL(1).ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL AS "RIB_ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL")) item_diff,

[code]...

Now i know that the table type "RIB_ExtOfXOrderSkuDesc_TBL" will be always populated but the table type "RIB_ExtOfXOrderPackDesc_TBL" may not be populate and can be null. So i want to run the exists against the "RIB_ExtOfXOrderPackDesc_TBL" aliased pack_diff only if it is populated. If its null i dont want to run the exists clause.

Server Administration :: Auditing Lob Column Changes When Working With Dbms_lob

Oct 26, 2010

It seems that dml trigger doesn't fire when lob field is being updated using dbms_lob package. As it stated in Oracle documentation:

Quote:Using OCI functions or the DBMS_LOB package to update LOB values or LOB attributes of object columns does not cause Oracle to fire triggers defined on the table containing the columns or the attributes.

I need to know that table was updated (or is about to be updated), how can I do that in case it is lob field that is being updated?

Server Administration :: Collect Table Stats?

Oct 10, 2013

We are running 11g (11.2.0.3)We have a "working table" that is empty at the beginning of the day.Then we start adding rows (insert) with a key column called STATE with a value of 100.At the same time, there are other apps that pickup data in state 100 , process that data and change that state to 200 or 300.There is also another app that pickup data in state 200 , process that data and change that state to 300 or 400.

So in summary, the data on that table is at the beginning empty, then all the rows are in state 100, they slowly move to different states (200, 300, etc) and by the end of the day, they are all in 400.

My question is what would be the best way to collect stats on this table?

I was thinking to create an hourly job to collect stats on that table:
exec dbms_stats.gather_table_stats (
ownname => 'SCOTT',
tabname => 'WORK_T

Server Administration :: How To Shrink Table Size

Jan 4, 2012

Name Null Type
------------------------------ -------- ------------------------
ENTITY_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(100 CHAR)
ENTITY_TYPE_ID NOT NULL NUMBER
SOURCE_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(512 CHAR)
XML_SCHEMA_ID NOT NULL NUMBER

CREATION_DATE TIMESTAMP(6)
MODIFICATION_DATE TIMESTAMP(6)
ARCHIVING_DATE TIMESTAMP(6)
CREATED_BY VARCHAR2(50 CHAR)
MODIFIED_BY VARCHAR2(50 CHAR)

The problem is that the data of the table are 40GB while on the DB the table holds 400GB! How can I shrink and reuse that space except from drop/recreate and drop/import?

The table has no initial data, so that I can play with the INITIAL parameter. Data are inserted, updated and deleted all the time. I have run DBMS_ADVISOR which recommended to SHRINK table. I have performed the shrink :

alter table STG_XML shrink space COMPACT;

but I haven't gained any space.
