SQL & PL/SQL :: Create Complete Hierarchical Table From Table With Only Two Columns - Parent And Child

Aug 13, 2012

We have a table in the client database that has two columns - column parent and column child. The whole hierarchy of DB table dependencies is held in this table.If Report 1 is dependent on Table A and Table A in turn is dependent on two tables Table M and Table N. Table N is dependent on table Z it will appear in the db table as,

Hierarchy Table
Parent Child
Report1Table A
Table ATable M
Table ATable N
Table NTable Z

Requirement :

From the above structure, we need to build a table which will hold the complete hierarchy by breaking it into multiple columns.The o/p should look like this

-ParentChild 1Child 2 Child 3
-Report1Table ATable M
-Report1Table ATable N Table Z

Child 1, Child 2, Child 3 ....and so on are columns.The number of tables and the no of hierarchical relationships are dynamic.

SQL Statements to create hierarchy table:

create table hierarchy (parent varchar2(20), child varchar2(20));
insert into hierarchy values ('Report1','Table A');
insert into hierarchy values ('Report1','Table B');
insert into hierarchy values ('Table A','Table M');
insert into hierarchy values ('Table B','Table N');
insert into hierarchy values ('Report2','Table P');
insert into hierarchy values ('Table M','Table X');
insert into hierarchy values ('Table N','Table Y');
insert into hierarchy values ('Report X','Table Z');

Approached already tried :

1) Using indentation : select lpad(' ',20*(level-1)) || to_char(child) P from hierarchy connect_by start with parent='Report1' connect by prior child=parent;

2)Using connect by path function :
select *
from (select parent,child,level,connect_by_isleaf as leaf, sys_connect_by_path(child,'/') as path
from hierarchy start with parent='Report1'
connect by prior child =parent) a where Leaf not in (0);

Both the approaches give the information but the hierarchy data appears in a single column.Ideally we would like data at each level to appear in a different column.

Server Utilities :: Concatenating Dashes In A Column Using Sqlldr

May 20, 2011

I'd like to load ss_numbers, but concatenate dashes in between.

The ssn currently looks like this in the file: 123456789

I'd like to put dashes in there to make it load like this. 123-45-6789

The data is positional, so I have the column in the ctl file defined as:

ssn position(1:9) char nullif ssn=blanks ,

I know how to concat using the other method of loading this way, but this is not how the data file looks:

"substr(lpad(:ssn,9,'0'),1,3)||'-'||substr(lpad(:ssn,9,'0'),4,2) ||'-'||substr(lpad(:ssn,9,'0'),6,4)",

how to get the dashes in there while loading with the positional method?

Server Utilities :: Return A Column Value Using Sqlloader After Loading

Dec 1, 2011

I have the following table intra_trades with t_id as the primary key. There is a trigger on that table that gets the next sequence and inserts it into the t_id column for every insert. I need to load data into that table using SqlLoader as chunks of 3000 rows and return the t_id back the script that Sqlload the data so that it can use that t_id's for the next process in the script.

intra_trades
t_id NUMBER(15) pk
t_name VARCHAR2(30)
t_loc VARCHAR2(40)
t_start TIMESTSTAMP
t_end TIMESTSTAMP
[code]....

The problem is that the only unique key on that table is the t_id which has a sequence on it and it is the pk. There can be duplicate rows in that table to meet the business needs for the company. So it is hard to associate the rest of the data in a row with t_id. The only thing I can think of is return the t_ids in the order it inserted so if the script keeps the order of rows in the memory it can associate the tid with the rest of the intra_trades info.How can I make the sqlloader return an array of t_ids that inserted? I need to return the t_ids's in the order it inserted so that the script can associate the t_id with the rest of the rest of the data in a row.

I have a pipe delimited data file ID range 1-50000 and random characters with a length of 100-4000 bytes for the clob field.

FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|'

Forms :: Table B Has Foreign Key Reference To Table A

Jan 11, 2012

There are 2 tables : Table A and Table B.Table B has foreign key reference to Table A.There are 2 forms in the application based on table A (form 1) and table B (form 2).

Now when we open form 2, the functionality is such that it acquires a lock on table B for the selected record during the search criteria. Lock is acquired by using "select 1 from table_B where column = :column for update no wait".So when the form 2 is opened by any other user/session and same record is tried to be selected, then an exception is raised to the user that the current record is being edited by some other user and does not allow him to edit that record.

Now imagine if User has opened screen 2 (One record in Table B has been locked). With this lock existing, we open form 1, and click a button which performs a COMMIT_FORM. At this point the form hangs. On checking the locked objects, there is a lock on both table A and table B. When the Form 2 is closed, then the Form 1 which was hanging a while ago starts responding.

When the foreign key relationship is dropped and the above scenario is tried, there is no issue encountered. Form 1 works fine even if form 2 is open.We are not supposed to drop the Foreign key relationship as well.

Server Utilities :: SQL Loader BFILE - Column Pointer Value Is FSSLPB / I (NoExist)

Mar 5, 2010

I successfully loaded a record into table with BFILE data type. However I don't understand how to verify if I did this correctly. I am also suspicious of the value FSSLPB//I. FSSLPB is the directory object name. When I delete the record from the table the BFILE column value defaults to (null) so it seems the table is initialized for accepting bfiles.

I am trying to:

1. Load an external LOB into a staging table using SQLLDR, then
2. Using PL/SQL insert the ext LOB into a BLOB column from the staging table to an end user table (or application table).

I am overwhelmed with reading docs and not getting the complete picture for different approaches to loading into Oracle.

Server Utilities :: ORA-02270 / No Matching Unique Or Primary Key For Column-list

Jul 6, 2010

I was cloning a schema user1 as user2 in the same database.

user1 had quota on 2 tablespaces user1_data and user1_index.

I created user with name as user2.

I created tablespace user2_data only and granted user2 unlimited quota on that tablespace only (did not grant him 'resource' role or unlimited tablespace privilege) Now exported user1 schema as follows

exp system/<passowrd> file=/u05/oradata/dump/user1_schema.dmp log=/u05/oradata/dump/user1_schema_exp.log owner=user1 rows=y constraints=y triggers=y indexes=y statistics=none recordlength=65535 compress=no consistent=n grants=y

then imported in in user2 schema as follows

imp system/<password> file=/u05/oradata/dump/user1_schema.dmp log=/u05/oradata/dump/user2_schema_imp.log fromuser=user1 touser=user2 rows=y constraints=y indexes=y statistics=none recordlength=65535 grants=y

during import i encountered following errors for so many constraints

"ALTER TABLE "table2" ADD CONSTRAINT "constraint_name1" FOREIGN KEY ("CTR_ID") REFERENCES "table1" ("CTR_ID") ENABLE NOVALIDATE"
IMP-00003: ORACLE error 2270 encountered
ORA-02270: no matching unique or primary key for this column-list
IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 2270:

I found that the it happened as the primary key of table1 was not created for which error was logged in the log file

. . importing table "table1" 19441 rows imported
IMP-00015: following statement failed because the object already exists:
"ALTER TABLE "table1" ADD CONSTRAINT "T1_PK79" PRIMARY KEY ("CTR_"
"ID") USING INDEX PCTFREE 10 INITRANS 2 MAXTRANS 255 STORAGE(INITIAL 65536 F"
"REELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1) TABLESPACE "USER1_INDEX" LOGGING ENABLE "
. . importing table "table5" 0 rows imported

However, I checked that the T1_PK79 does not exist in the user2 schema though it exists in user1 schema Neither the index for priamry key (T1_PK79) existed in user2 schema not the table <table1> existed before this import Then what could be the reason that I am getting an error "IMP-00015: following statement failed because the object already exists"?

I assume tablespace for index would not be an issue here as other indexes got created properly in user2_index tablespace during this import.

I tried this twice, once with user2 schema and then with user3 schema as well (with different tablespace), but result is the same.

There were no users connected to the database during export and no background jobs were modiying any data in schema user1 while export.
