Performance Tuning :: Nested Select / Instead Of Trigger And Views - No Index Used?

Sep 8, 2009

SQL> select * from v$version;

BANNER
----------------------------------------------------------------
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
CORE 10.2.0.4.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

5 rows selected.

I have a problem with views and nested selects which I cannot explain. Here is a trimed down version of the research I have done. notice the following:

1) all code is executed from the same user CDRNORMALCODE. this user has all views and procedural code
2) all data is owned by a different user CDRDATA. This user has no views and no code.

My problem is this:

If I reference the table directly with a delete statement that uses a nested select (i.e. IN clause with select), the index I expect and want is used.But if I execute the same delete but reference even the most simple of views (select * from <table>) instead of the table itself, then a full table scan is done of the table.

Here is an execute against the table directly (owned by cdrdata). Notice the reference to the table in the table schema on line 3. Also please notice INDEX RANGE SCAN BSNSS_CLSS_CASE_RULE_FK1 at the bottom of the plan.

SQL> show user
USER is "CDRNORMALCODE"
SQL>
SQL> explain plan for
2 delete

[code]...

OK, here is an update. The views I am useing normally have instead of triggers on them. If I remove the instead of trigger the problem looks like it goes away, when I put the trigger back the problem comes back.But why would an instead-of-trigger change the query plan for a view?

SQL> DELETE FROM PLAN_TABLE;

5 rows deleted.

SQL> explain plan for
2 delete
3 from BSNSS_CLSS_MNR_CASE_RULE_SV

[code]...

SQL & PL/SQL :: Select Data Different Schema

Jan 12, 2011

I have 3 users in schema.

User09
User10
User11

Table Name PURCHASE exists in all above three schema with different data(according to date)

Like
User09 ----> purchase ---- data date Jan09 to Dec09
User10 ----> purchase ---- data date Jan10 to Dec10
User11 ----> purchase ---- data date Jan11 to Dec11

I want to select * from purchase, from above all three user with select statement.I can select data one by one with union all

select * from user09.pruchase Union all
select * from user10.pruchase Union all
select * from user11.pruchase

after creating this query I add another User User12 and that User has same purchase table so I will have to add one another line IN Union all Query. when I see this query. It gives me the all owner name of User09,User10,User11......

SELECT * FROM ALL_ALL_TABLES
WHERE OWNER LIKE 'USER%'
and table_name ='PURCHASE'

OWNER TABLE_NAME TABLESPACE_NAME
------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------
USER PURCHASE USERS
USER09 PURCHASE USERS
USER10 PURCHASE USERS
3 rows selected

Can I get data from Purchase Table of all users with select statement .

Refresh Materialized Views Based On Remote Views?

Aug 4, 2011

I have a created a materialized view which is based on a view on remote database. Now how do I refresh the view.

Materialized view is created by

CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW mv_employee_name
AS SELECT EMPLID, EMPL_NAME
FROM VEMPDATA@REMOTEDB
WHERE REGION = 'US';

I am wondering how the refersh happens or how do I specify the refresh clause.REFRESH FAST option is looking for VIEW LOG on the master table but in this case its a remote view, so I cannot create any object on remote db.

Schema Permissions - Execute GRANT SELECT ON Xyz - Insufficient Privileges?

Sep 30, 2011

I have an automated process which runs on an Oracle 8i database server as user abc.This process creates views/tables in other schemas, on the same database server, which point to objects owned by the abc user.

The issue I'm getting is that when I try to execute GRANT SELECT ON xyz.view123 TO PUBLIC as the abc user, I get an insufficient privileges.I should add that the abc user created the xyz.view123 table/view.

What grants/priviliges or whatever do I have to do to the abc schema?

Further more when any new tables will create under ODI_WORK, then i need automatically grant select permission to ODI _MASTER schema.

for this purpose i choose trigger, and a Stored procedure.

CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER ODI_WORK.TRIG1
AFTER CREATE ON ODI_WORK.SCHEMA

call sp1 (ora_login_user)

I searched a lot over blogs, if EXECUTE IMMEDIATE commands exist under Trigger it gets problem. Insert/update/delete statement on trigger seems no problem.

Convert Some Existing Materialized Views (fast Refresh) To Partition Materialized Views

Jul 7, 2010

I have to convert some existing materialized views (fast refresh) to partition materialized views.

Database version is oracle 10.1.0.4. I have decided to use on prebuilt table option to do the partitioning as it minimizes the time to transfer from the master site.

1) stop replication
1) create interim tables with similar structure as the materialized views
2) transfer all data from the materialized views to the interim tables
4) script out the materialized views structure and add in on prebuilt table option in the scripts
5) drop the materialized views
6) rename the interim tables with the same name as the materialized views
7) run the scripts to create the materialized views with on prebuilt table option
8) refresh the newly created materialized views -> it should take a short time since I am using on prebuilt table option

But I am facing one major issue. That is if I drop the materialized views, the materialized view logs of the master tables are purged. When the materialized views are refreshed fast, there are some data missing. the data that are purged out when the materialized view are dropped.

Do you happen to know other ways that existing materialized views can be converted to partitioned materialized views? Do you have any workaround to prevent the materialized view logs from being purged?

Security :: Schema Consolidation And User Schema Mapping Based On Service

Jul 24, 2011

We have an application with many separate databases (one per customer). Given they share the same business requirements (service hours, change mgmt etc), we're interested in potentially consolidating the separate DBs (which are relatively small) into separate schemas within a fewer no of databases to reduce the overhead.

Our issue is that the application is hard-coded to use a specific administrator and application connection user name. Changing this is unfortunately not an option.

Given this limitation, is there any possibility to map a generic user into a customer-specific schema based on the database service that they connect to? Each customer connects to different database services but may use the same user name. We considered using private synonyms but this seems to acheive the opposite (i.e. many different users could connect and map to a single users schema). One thing to point out is that where there is a single user name, it is acceptable for a single password to be used across the different customer DBs as they will be a single admin/user.

How To Fire A Schema Trigger From Outside Schema

Sep 24, 2012

A user is using an ad hoc tool similar to SQL Developer called PeopleSoft Application Designer.

He creates a connection to the db, then issues an alter session set current_schema = 'restricted_schema'. The connected user does not have direct privileges on the "restricted_schema" which they call SYSADM.

After changing the schema context in that manner he creates objects in SYSADM. A schema trigger is then fired and grants privileges on the new objects created in SYSADM. Doing the same in either SQL Plus or SQL Developer does not fire the schema trigger.

I think SQL Plus and SQL Dev are working as they should. Altering the session like that does not change your identity - just the schema context. But, when you examine v_$session, the connection with this other tool looks exactly the same as one from SQL Plus or SQL Dev when changing the schema context in the session.

Instead of trying to figure out what this other tool is doing, is there any way for that schema trigger to fire when using this process from one of our tools?
