However I am getting an ORA-00923 exception with message as "FROM keyword not found where expected". know if I can/cannot use a cursor to fetch column names for a table?
I'm currently facing a non-critical situacion while trying to update a table. Here's the PL/SQL Code. It's a pretty straight-forward script, It just update one single column of the table. The only problem is that I have to update over 15 milions records. When I use the for update cursor, I put inside the loop a counter, when it reaches 1000 records, then commit, else keep counting.
The block throws the exception ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence.
I've tried to do some reserch on Google, buy it only says it is an out of secuence fetch caused by a commit inside a for update cursor.
My question is. Is there any risk by putting the commit under the end loop, I mean by doing this I'd be updating over 15.000.000 records at the same time. Will I have any issue with the rollback segment ?

I need to open an explicit cursor for making a total: after I have to use the same information of that explicit cursor for dividing a column of the cursor by that total. It is not enough to open close, reopen and reclose because I just obtain one register at the same time and it is the same register two times consecutively.
I don't want to use auxiliary structures cause there are 18000 columns for 10200 rows.

My master-detail form has single canvas. For both blocks, master and detail, two tables joined together in each. One table to be updated, second table has some info for reference (query only).
I am getting these errors when in detail block the item from LOV is selected for existing record. This does not happen for new record inserted in detail block.

Looping through all the records in the PLSQL table will not get my requirement. Because I need to group the data based on two columns and need to fetch the count of groups.

I have created two non base table text items(from date, to date) and if values are not entered from front end i.e. null then hadrcoded in pre_query trigger to default values.But even i enter values dynamically from front end and when ever i press fetch button ,it is taking default values i.e. it is not accepting values what i have entered.

1. bprf_no will be my primary field
2. report parameters will be the bill_month & no_of_months
Based on above 2 parameters I need to scan through the data for BILL_MONTH <= '20-Jun-2012' and NO_OF_MONTHS <= 6 the other criteria being the AVG_IND in (1,2).
In brief the criteria will be to pick all BPRF_NO having AVG_ID in (1, 2) consecutively till a break (AVG_IND not in (1, 2) starting from the given BILL_MONTH and going below this period, that is BILL_MONTH <= '30-Jun-2012'.
For the below data, if my parameters are: BILL_MONTH <= '30-Jun-2012' and NO_OF_MONTHS <= 3, only the underscore added data should be picked (as they fulfill the criteria) and the report output will be like:

have a cursor populating an array displaying data not found. As usual with these things, a few displays normally show the offending row but in this case, the display is showing data so I dont understand it. Ive inherited this and shortened it a bit to display whats going on.

now we come to run it, I tried first to see was it data and then I outputted the iteration itself. the first iteration is fine, the second iteration shows the column in the array has data but Im still getting the 01403.
the error can be generated even displaying the array value. If the array wasnt populated I wouldnt expect the col value to display in the error.

how to write below query in pl/sql cursor. The help table has two associated tables, help_txt and help_id, which will have strings of data concatenated into one sales contact record. There are multiple lines of text per comment and multiple lines of resolution text at 40 characters per line. The key to the help_text table (id, date,seqno) is the main key to the help_txt table and help_id t table with a sequence added to each table
The formatted string will contain some text and variables with the comment lines (1-10 or more) concatenated first, followed by the resolution lines (1-10 or more). There will be multiple comment and multiple resolution lines. I'm dealing with an ORA-1000 error in a Pro*C application where all the cursors are correctly closed (or so it seems to me).
Here is the code for a simple program which reproduces the problem:

While testing the initialization parameter open_cursors is set to 50.
It's my understanding that Oracle doesn't close the cursors until it needs the space for another cursor, which in my test case seems to happen when I enter a value of 50 or bigger for "number of loops". To see how oracle is reusing the cursors, while the test program is running I run SQL*Plus and query v$sesstat for the session that's running the test with the following sentence:

Even before I enter a value for number of loops I can see that the session opened 4 cursors and closed 2 of them:

Since I open and close the cursor in the same loop iteration, I expect to find in every iterarion 1 explicit cursor and a number of implicit cursors (the PL/SQL call along with the so-called recursive cursors), but I don't expect the sum of all of them to be greater than 50. If my understanding is correct Oracle should be reusing the 50 cursors previously marked as "closeable", not raising the ORA-1000 error.
Is it possible to:
-define a cursor with bind variables
-get a cursor record from these cursor
-and pass the bind variable in the OPEN clause
