SQL & PL/SQL :: Querying Through Dynamic Database Links Using DBMS_SQL

Nov 14, 2011

I am using SQL Developer.I am self-teaching myself PL/SQL. What I am trying accomplish is to run a select query across many database links at runtime and to insert that query onto a local table. So far, I have only gotten as far as querying the database link names. I am stuck at where my variable calls the database link name. It does not recognize the database link name, and I can't quite grasp the reason why. Below is the first part of my script which does retrieves the column values no problem:

001 SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
002 DECLARE
003 db_link_varVARCHAR2(30);
004 source_cursorINTEGER;
005 destination_cursorINTEGER;
006 src_csrINTEGER;
007 dst_csrINTEGER;
008 rundate_varDATE;
009 instance_name_var VARCHAR2(30);
[code]....

If I break the script down to the bare select query, it will query absolutely fine.If I run the script in its entirety, it will not pick up the variable dbl as a dynamic database link. 02019. 00000 - "connection description for remote database not found"

If I comment out line 031 and prevent the looping of querying of database links (which will only fetch the first value of db_link from dba_db_links), the script will complete and I will have a row inserted into my local table.

I am suspecting it's the looping that is incorrect but I understand it is not going to do anything beyond line 059.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Using Dbms_sql.execute To Build / Execute Dynamic Sql?

Oct 23, 2013

I'm working with old code that uses dbms_sql.execute to build/execute dynamic sql. In our case, the user can select varying columns(I think up to 20) with different where conditions as needed.

After building the sql, here's an example

WITH ph AS
(SELECT ph.* FROM po_header ph WHERE 1 = 2),
pf AS
(SELECT DISTINCT pf.order_id, pf.fund
FROM po_fau pf, ph
WHERE 1 = 1
AND ph.order_id = pf.order_id

[code]....

Where table records for

po_header = ~567746
po_fau = ~2153570

and PK "order_id" is a NUMBER(10) not null and a snippet of the code looks like

nDDL_Cursor := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
dbms_sql.parse(nDDL_Cursor, sSQLStr, 2);
FOR x IN 1 .. nCols LOOP
sCols(x) := '';
dbms_sql.define_column(nDDL_Cursor, x, sCols(x), 100);
END LOOP;
nError := dbms_sql.execute(nDDL_cursor);

why when the "execute" statement is fired off the elapsed time takes ~4.5 seconds but If I change "1 = 1" above to "1 = 2" it takes ~.2 seconds. If I run the above query interactively it takes ~.2 seconds. Shouldn't the above query when joining

ph.order_id = pf.order_id

return zero rows back instantly or does the "dbms_sql_execute" do some other type of parsing internally that takes cpu time.

Application Express :: How To Have A Dynamic Action Populate Text Fields

Sep 7, 2012

How to have a dynamic action populate text fields. When the create button is hit, it will insert the record in the DB like normal.

I had a search box doing a dynamic action when a record_number is entered and the selection changes It populates the remaining text boxes with the results of the record_number.

I used a "SET_VALUE" true action on each individual ITEM

For each individual item i have different SQL Statement populating that item.

Ex. To populate Last_Name/ P2_LAST_NAME item i do the following

Select LAST_NAME from patient_Demographics
where record_id = :P2_RECORD_ID

Affected Elements:
P2_LAST_NAME

So i have about 8 of these true statements, so i'm hitting the DB 8 times to get the individual items. Is there a way to hit the DB once and set the items using one PL/SQL statement? I tried using a PL/sql function body,

We traveled on a special taxi with a spare Train Operator at 0839hrs and reached Greenford Station at 0859hrs. Emergency Services ( Police, London Ambulance, London Fire Brigade and ERU) were already on site. When spoken to Line Controlllor stated he received a normal radio call from E105 to inform him that he has got a person under his train. At 0826 Line Controllor had traction current switched off between Northolt and Greenford. Train service was suspended from North Acton to West Ruislip in both directions (east and west).

I could not speak to the Train Operator as Police was in the process of interviewing him and he was too traumatised to speak. Trauma Support was arranged from Loughton as we had no one available at West Ruislip and White City. Trauma Support spoke to T/OP over the telephone and Train Operator decided to travel in a special taxi which was booked for him on his own, although a Station Staff was was arranged to travel with him. During the process a spare T/OP stayed with this T/OP. When spoken to Mr. Clack Operations Security Manager stated he was traveling on this train from West Ruislip and made a telephone call to Network Operations Centre at 0826hrs to inform them of the situation. Mr. Clack travelled to the leading cab and confirmed that although the T/OP was badly shaken but he carried out his duties in a professinal manner by placing Short Circuiting Devise in front of the train and second SCD was placed on the rear of the track by Station Supervisor after traction current was discharged. Passengers were detrained by operation butterfly cock. Les Blaxwall Operations Standards Manager was also travelling on this train and offered his to T/OP. Mr. Blaxwall assisted in the wrong direction move and stayed till the end of the operation to assist. Wrong Direction move was carried out by T/OP Martin to assist emergency services for the track search. The deceased was an elderly of Asian origin approximately of 65yrs of age wearing white shirt, beige trauser and white trainers. When CCTV was viewed he was seen pacing up and down on the east bound platform near the waiting room. On approach of T105 he jumped in front of the train at 0824hrs and train stopped with two cars outside the station. The body was removed from platform at 0940hrs by ERU and taken in a body bag to the secure room at Greenford Station. Track was accessed by BTP to carry out track search for any trace of identification at 0932hrs and gave all clear at 0942hrs.

TOM Williamson assisted in closing the train doors by operating the butterfly cock to close position. Traction Current was switched on at 0948hrs and T105 was worked empty to North Acton and reversed to Ruislip Depot. All clear was given at 0951hrs and after station search, Greenford Station was re opened at 0955hrs. E142 was the first train to run in service on the east bound. Body was removed at 1013hrs from Greenford Station and taken to Uxbridge by the police. Trauma Support was offered to Station supervisor by his DSM, but he declined the offer. SQL & PL/SQL :: Dynamic Column Value Query?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a Strange requirement from client data is loaded from excel to Oracle Table- TST_TBL (with Header in Excel)

CREATE TABLE TST_TBL
(
JOB_DETAIL_ID NUMBER,
SHEET_NAME VARCHAR2(100 BYTE),
COL1 VARCHAR2(400 BYTE),
COL2 VARCHAR2(400 BYTE),
COL3 VARCHAR2(400 BYTE),
COL4 VARCHAR2(400 BYTE),

[Code]...

After the Data is loaded, we see data look like the above.

(1) Always COL3 column name have data value as 'Gen1' which is the indication for us from where data starts. But Gen1, Gen2, Gen3 etc... is dynamic. ie. This month we get gen1 and gen2 columns followed by null value in a column. Next month we get gen1,2,3,4 followed by null column.
(2) Null Column indicate us that there is a break in the column.
(3) Then next we need to look for next group of data (Monthly) and then insert into the same table again with different sheet_name column.
(4) Next for Quater and then YTD. None of the column Values are fixed and its all dynamic.

If you load the below data, you will come to know what i am looking for. I tried using UNPIVOT. But couldnt able to achieve it. Is there an option to do it in sigle query? or Do I need to go for Stored Procedure?

Insert into TST_TBL
(JOB_DETAIL_ID, SHEET_NAME, COL1, COL2, COL3,
COL4)
Values
(100, 'Wire_1', 'Gen1',
'Gen2', 'Gen3', 'Gen4');
Insert into TST_TBL

SQL & PL/SQL :: Using NULL And DECODE In Dynamic Query

Sep 2, 2011

small piece of PL SQL code. how to make this query.Requirement is that a concurrent program is run with parameters and one of them i_num_org_id is non mandatory so it can come as NULL...Now in an existing code which i have to change, it uses a query as

SELECT xyz
FROM abc_table
WHERE <various conditions>
AND DECODE(i_num_org_id,NULL,1,table.organization_id) = NVL(i_num_org_id,1);

Now with the above way, if the program is run with some value for i_num_org_id or run as normal query (with NULL as the value) inside a PLSQL procedure/package then it runs fine.This query if you run in Toad etc then too it will work fine but if it is made a dynamic SQL and then used as either EXECUTE IMMEDIATE or opened as a cursor then we get a "Missing expression". I created this small anonymous block to test this and this will go into missing expression error

declare
l_num_org_id NUMBER := NULL;
l_temp VARCHAR2(100);
l_sql varchar2(1000);
begin
l_sql := 'SELECT '||''''||'abcd'||''''||'
[code].....

how i can reformat this query so that even if NULL value comes for i_num_org_id then it is handled.I am aware about CASE but that cannot be used in WHERE clause i guess.
