Here I am commiting after all the rows are inserted ,but i want to commit for every 500 rows are inserted .
I am using the SQL-Developer to access and manipulate a database. I am not very sure about the format of the database (I'm new to databases), but I had to setup the TNS-folder.
Anyway, I guess the problem is the same for any database.
I am having a table with the BOM (bill of material) positions of certain articles and I want to change the BOM quantities of some of the articles. What happens is that I can only change some of the rows. For other rows I get the message like (it is in German, so I try to translate it):
"data was commited in another/the same session already. row cannot be updated"
This error message looks like there is somebody else locked on the database and manipulating it, correct? Is that possible to see somewhere which processes/people are currently accessing to the database?
I saw that there is one process/another database, which is having the authorization to access to the database. But where can I check if this process is accessing to the database?
BTW: I used to do this process before, and it worked. I had been able to manipulate arbitrary entries on the database. I guess that the process or the person, mentioned above, hasn't been accessing to the database at that time.
INSERT /*+ APPEND */
INTO sales_fact
SELECT *
FROM customer_sales_fact_staging
ORDER BY time_wh_id;
COMMIT;

Suppose in the above case
SELECT *
FROM customer_sales_fact_staging
ORDER BY time_wh_id;
returns a huge number say more than 10 million or 50 million
will the commit work(one single transaction)
I have an insert statement like below.
insert into emp (select empno,ename,sal);
Here I need to exclude the rows having sal<0 from the SELECT query and insert those into some other table simultaneously.
Below are the data for rows that I want to insert into CUSTOMER_PRODUCT table from a stored procedure.
Instead of making round trips twice to insert these two rows, I looking for a way to pass in the data for both those rows and then insert them from within the stored procedure in one shot.
The stored procedure will be invoked by Java and .NET.
Sample Data for CUSTOMER_PRODUCT:
ROW 1:
CUSTOMER_ID : 1000
PRODUCT_TYPE : PROD123
IS_MEMERSHIP : Y
IS_EMAIL_SUBSCRIPTION: Y
ROW 2:
CUSTOMER_ID : 1001
PRODUCT_TYPE : PROD123
IS_MEMERSHIP : Y
IS_EMAIL_SUBSCRIPTION: Y
Question 1:
Should collection be used? (or) is there any other approach that could be utilized?
Question 2:
Are there any performance concerns in passing collection and iterating it to fetch value to insert into CUSTOMER_PRODUCT table?
I'm running Oracle 10g.
I got Scenario that, i need to insert the number of records loaded in target table into the log table.
But the resultset is handled in the in the cursor. how to get the number of records the cursor handles.

I have a flat file as source wherein I am getting values like
Comp_id, Comp_name, ISIN, column_name, column_value
The structure is like this may contain multiple records like Comp_id, Comp_name, ISIN will be same, but column_name will contain the column_name to which its corresponding column_value needs to be populated to.
E.g. of Feed File -
Comp_id, Comp_name, column_name, column_value
1,HSBC,branch_name,HSBC-DELHI
1,HSBC,branch_add,24-Lajpat Nagar
1,HSBC,branch_phone,2322322
2,HSBC,branch_name,HSBC-MUMBAI
2,HSBC,branch_add,24Andheri
2,HSBC,branch_phone,4445221
2,HSBC,branch_postalcode,400023
Target table structure
Comp_id, Comp_name, branch_name, branch_add, branch_phone, branch_postalcode
I need to insert the above data to a table by selecting data from above scenario.
shall we stop inserting data into a table before it inserting using Trigger?

I have a table ABC with two columns NAME and SEQUENCE. The valid values of sequence are from 1..50. The table may not have all the Sequence number. For example following is the data in my table..
Quote:NAME SEQUENCE

Jonh| 5
Amy| 1
Suresh| 3

Suresh| 3

Jonh | 5

Basically I want to have rows for the sequence numbers which are not present i my table. I thought of using the following query to generate a sequence and then join, but does not work.
select rownum from dual connect by rownum <=50
I tried something like
with temp as (select name, sequence from abc where supp_ref_order is not null order by sequence )
select rownum as num, temp.name from dual, temp connect by rownum <=50 where temp.sequence =num

This is what I've been trying to do.
I have the following table:
FOOTBALL PLAYERS < ID, NAME, ATTRIBUTE>
100-JIM-TALL
101-BOB-STRONG
102-MARK-SMART
...etc
I want to form a query that regardless of the total returned records, I will be able to specify how many of each "kind" of players I want returned. There are several good reasons that it has to be one query and not many.
I have a query that returns 11 Million rows but not all of them can be displayed in SQLDeveloper or DBVisualizer because of limited memory or other type of issues. I need to copy the entire result set to excel for further calculations.
Is there any way that i can select N number of rows out of my actual result set.
For example:
a) A result set contains 10 Million rows in total.
b) I want to display first 5 Million rows by executing a query
c) Then I want to display the remaining 5 Million rows by executing the query again with any parameter changes.
So all I want is to extract the rows of my actual result set in two or more executions, depending on the number of rows.
I have a table:
Name
_____
Smith Street
Smith Street
John Street
Ed Street
Ed Street
Ed Street
and need to assign sequence numbers only when the record (Name) changes, e.g. :
Name Seq
_____ ____
Smith Street 1
Smith Street 1
John Street 2
Ed Street 3
Ed Street 3
Ed Street 3
I have experimented with row_number partition but then i just get the sequence returning to 1 when the name value changes.
If I grouped the records by Name I would like to have unique, sequential numbers: 1, 2, 3 but where there is the same name I would like the sequence to stop and the number to replicate?

Consider tables A,B,C,D,E,F. all are having 100000++ records Tables B,C,D are dependent on table A (with foreign key constraint). When I am deleting records from all tables, table B,C,D are taking max 30-40 seconds while table A is taking 30-40 mins. All tables are having indexes.
Method I have used:
1. Created Temp table
2. then deleted all records from B,C,D,E,F for all records in temp table for limit of 500.
delete from B where exists (select 1 from temp where b.col1=temp.col1);
3. Why it is taking too much time for deleting records in table A.
Is there any thing that during deleting data from such master table, it is referring to all dependent tables even if dependent data is not present ?
I read the error description. In my case there is only one full backup at a time running, hence it does not make any sense.
