View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is a table called cd_details. It has fields like id, name, language, type etc.I need a form where the user can search the database on basis of language and name and then display the other details. I used a data block wizard and given a push_buttonwith (execute_query). But it's very clumsy. For eg, if the user presses next the next button then all the records are being displayed. Is there any way to do this thing in a better way?

Is there any way I can solve this ? Since I find that there are many charset / NLS language options througout DB. I read from others that they have the following response. Any alternative beside changing the whole DB charset ?
Recreate the database with the correct character set
Convert the database to AL32UTF8. Documentation link
Change the databases National Character Set to AL32UTF8 & change your application to use NVARCHAR2()/NCHAR() datatypes instead of VARCHAR2() (documented at the same link as above)
My colleague sent me a sql script to copy and execute in Toad for Data Analysts (see attached). Once I execute I get error messages on the date and a few other lines. My question is should I completely rewrite the script?
I would rather have this in a grid format anyway with the same data instead of how this script is pulling. I'm very green when it comes to this (if you didn't notice) and need some insight esp. on the date format considering the date column has 10 digits i.e. 1209105576.

how to connect to Oracle to retrieve data using SQL language. I've started with a new company which is pretty much a sink or swim type of environment meaning you're an idiot if you don't figure it out on your own. I was told that we use Toad for Oracle 10g. I was given a server name; location and an .ora file named tnsnames that was given to me but I have no clue what to do with. I've come from companies where this was already setup. You just go into access to retrieve the data.
II have totally hit a brick wall with all the other roadblocks I encounter and all researched out. Where I can get step by step instructions on how to connect to start sql in Toad/Oracle?
I am unable to insert string of Hindi language characters with 1800 character length in column having data type VARCHAR2(4000).
I am getting error "ORA-01461: Can bind LONG value only for insert into a LONG column"
NLS parameters for database are :
PARAMETERVALUE
NLS_LANGUAGEAMERICAN
NLS_TERRITORYAMERICA
[Code]....
Is there any way to insert this string in VARCHAR2 column? I can't change data type to CLOB (with which I able to insert this string).
I tried more to write Bangla in Oracle 10gR1, or 10gR2 or Express but failed. When I write bangla in the "emp_name" field for employee name this can be save, But when I execute to see the data again then the data comes with a big change like some symbol for some character.

Currently my oracle database character set is we8mswin1252 and it is only containing English data as well as spatial data (which is in English of course). I would like to change the Database character set so it could accept Arabic characters.
I have checked the below command on a test DB and it worked fine, but I want to know if it's recommended as a best practice when changing the character set to accept arabic and this won't corrupt my old entered Data ?
SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
STARTUP RESTRICT
ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET INTERNAL_USE AR8MSWIN1256
SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
STARTUP
i have a oracle server installed enterprise edition, for some reation i need to degrade the version from enterprise to standard
i need same tablespace,data's everything same as of now.
We are converting WE8ISO8859P1 oracle db character set to AL32UTF8. Before conversion, i want to check implication on PL/SQL code for byte based SQL functions.
What all points to consider while checking implications on PL / SQL code? I could find 3 methods on Google surfing, SUBSTRB, LENGTHB, INSTRB. What do I check if these methods are used in PL/SQL code?
What all other methods should I check? What do I check in PL/SQL if varchar and char type declarations exist in code? How do i check implication of database character set change to AL32UTF8 for byte bases SQL function.
I have two databases called
a) Old Retailer database
b) New Retailer Database
We cant delete old database but we are using and we want to use both of them.
Now problem
Both dbs have a table called retailer.
I want to prevent duplication in them.
I.e it there is a retailer 12 created in old one new one shldnt allowo us to create retailer
id---12
similarly if there is a retailer 13 in new one it shouldnt be created in old table
retailer ids are unique. its not the case that with retailer id for example 5 there is a
different retailer in these two tables of diffferent DBS. Its unique
Now I have to put this criteria
how can i do it?
Second questions===================
if a primary key is auto increment. how can i skip some numbers lets say it is 1,2,3,4
i want that when next record shld be inserted it shld be 6 not 5. i dont want to feed the value 6. i want to know how to change indexing of primary key to skip some numbers when its set to auto increments.
I want to change database login in report at runtime.
For Example. I have created and run a menu by using database login "ABC/xxx" and want to run a report through this menu directly (Without using form) by different data base login i.e "xyz/ddd".
what is the sol. except passing user id at report call i.e rwrun60 parameter.
I am going to change some parameters on primary database (db cache, java pool etc.). I am not sure, if the changes are automaticallly propagated to standby or if I have to make the changes manually on stanby site too? I couldn't find clear answer in documentation. how parameter changes work in dg physical configuration?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to change space allocation for character columns in my database, So it will store them as 'CHAR' and not 'BYTE'.my character set is
SQL> SELECT VALUE FROM V$NLS_PARAMETERS WHERE PARAMETER='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
VALUE
----------------------------------------------------------------
AL32UTF8
SQL> alter system set NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS='CHAR' scope=both;
System altered.I bounced the instance just to make sure
System altered.
SQL> shutdown immediate;
Database closed.
Database dismounted.
ORACLE instance shut down.
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL>
SQL>
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
[code].....
And then I want to see that when I create a table with some varchar2 column,The space for it will be allocated by chars, and not by bytes! However, when I run a check of create table, this is what I get:
SQL> drop table check_char;
Table dropped.
SQL> create table check_char (some_name varchar2(10));
Table created.
SQL> select a.char_used
2 from all_tab_columns a
3 where table_name='CHECK_CHAR'
4 and a.owner='SYS';
C
-
B
SQL>
What is the reason for space allocation to remain in BYTES and not CHAR, or what else I can check?
I have a requirement to change the instance parameter of the primary database and standby in the data guard. Any procedure to do the same. I have to do it directly on production and there is no test set up so I cannot experiment . The procedure I am thinking of is as below.
1. Stop the standby
2. backup the primary
3. Change the parameter and restart to make it effective
4. Start the primary
5. Go to stand by
6. Change the parameter and mount the database.
7. Check if both are in sync and apply logs if not.
I new to data guard concept.
I am using oracle 10g with data guard configured , I have primary ( A ) and standby database ( B ) .But because of some unavoidable conditions the primary database ( A ) got shutdown and was not starting , We shifted the standby database ( B ) at new location and changed it to primary with following command ,
startup mount;
alter database recover managed standby database finish;
alter database commit to switchover to physical primary;
shutdown;
startup;
This new primary ( B ) was open for end users for 2 days during which old primary ( A ) was shutdown .
I took the backup of ( B ) and restored it on A AND shutdown the B . Now A is acting as Primary database. Server B is shutdown . I want to change server B to standby database with A running as Primary .Is it possible ?
I need to give validation for not allowing french or arabic or hindi alphabets or numbers except for only english alphanumeric letters.
I understood how to restrict special characters or spaces .
regexp_instr(i, '[^[:alnum:]]') = 0
This function allow only characters and numbers in English language and doesnt allow special characters.
I need to restrict further by not allowing any other language characters or numbers except only english alphanumeric letters.
i have requirement to change the oracle home from /u04/....../dbhome_2 to /u03/...../dbhome_4
DB=11g
application version=R12.
