I'm in the process of making a list of changes. What database application changes would be classified as standard changes and would not require a CAB meeting and which ones would be deemed critical that a CAB meeting would be required before going ahead with the change.
Sun Solaris 10, Oracle 11gr2 x86 How are you doing? I am trying to build a test system. I never build ASM before. if I need to install database first then Migrating to ASM? The other problem I am having is that I only have a Raw disk. I have one disk for root and oracle and the other one for Raw disk for ASM. Do you know it's possible to build ASM on 1 raw disk?
We have standalone database running on ASM. Its 11Gr2 linux version5 server. After the Database bounce, the DB isnt coming up and is showing the below error.
SQL> startup nomount ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters ORA-01565: error in identifying file '+DATA/test/spfiletest.ora' ORA-17503: ksfdopn:2 Failed to open file +DATA/test/spfiletest.ora ORA-15056: additional error message ORA-17503: ksfdopn:2 Failed to open file +DATA/test/spfiletest.ora ORA-15001: diskgroup "DATA" does not exist or is not mounted ORA-00450: background process 'ASMB' did not start ORA-00443: background process "ASMB" did not start ORA-06512: at line 4
Also i checked the ASM disk groups. I can see all those are MOUNTED properly. In fact i could also see the spfile present in ASM disk physically. It looks like it couldn't identify the spfile to start up the db. however i could see it physically present in ASM disk group. Find below snapshot.

I cannot start ASM on my Oracle Database Appliance.
crsctl status resource -t says: ora.asm ONLINE ONLINE node1 Started ONLINE ONLINE node2 Started
however, if I try to access the ASMCMD it says: [grid@node1 ~]$ asmcmd Connected to an idle instance. ASMCMD> startup ORA-00304: requested INSTANCE_NUMBER is busy Connected to an idle instance.
I am using 10.2.0.1 on OEL5. I have installed CRS, Oracle home, ASM on both nodes and everything is fine.
When invoked dbca to create a database, it says:
*'DBCA could not startup the ASM instance configured on this node. To proceed with database creation using ASM you need the ASM instance to be up and running. Do you want to recreate the ASM instance on this node?'*
Is it a bug? because some blogs say this is a bug. And patch 8288940 will solve this. They also say this patch is to solve the incompatibility between 11g ASM incompatibility with 10g. But here I am using everything of 10.2.0.1.
Currently my oracle database character set is we8mswin1252 and it is only containing English data as well as spatial data (which is in English of course). I would like to change the Database character set so it could accept Arabic characters.
I have checked the below command on a test DB and it worked fine, but I want to know if it's recommended as a best practice when changing the character set to accept arabic and this won't corrupt my old entered Data ?
SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE STARTUP RESTRICT ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET INTERNAL_USE AR8MSWIN1256 SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE STARTUP
We are converting WE8ISO8859P1 oracle db character set to AL32UTF8. Before conversion, i want to check implication on PL/SQL code for byte based SQL functions.
What all points to consider while checking implications on PL / SQL code? I could find 3 methods on Google surfing, SUBSTRB, LENGTHB, INSTRB. What do I check if these methods are used in PL/SQL code?
What all other methods should I check? What do I check in PL/SQL if varchar and char type declarations exist in code? How do i check implication of database character set change to AL32UTF8 for byte bases SQL function.
We cant delete old database but we are using and we want to use both of them.
Now problem
Both dbs have a table called retailer.
I want to prevent duplication in them.
I.e it there is a retailer 12 created in old one new one shldnt allowo us to create retailer
id---12
similarly if there is a retailer 13 in new one it shouldnt be created in old table
retailer ids are unique. its not the case that with retailer id for example 5 there is a
different retailer in these two tables of diffferent DBS. Its unique
Now I have to put this criteria
how can i do it?
Second questions===================
if a primary key is auto increment. how can i skip some numbers lets say it is 1,2,3,4
i want that when next record shld be inserted it shld be 6 not 5. i dont want to feed the value 6. i want to know how to change indexing of primary key to skip some numbers when its set to auto increments.
I want to change database login in report at runtime.
For Example. I have created and run a menu by using database login "ABC/xxx" and want to run a report through this menu directly (Without using form) by different data base login i.e "xyz/ddd".
what is the sol. except passing user id at report call i.e rwrun60 parameter.
I am going to change some parameters on primary database (db cache, java pool etc.). I am not sure, if the changes are automaticallly propagated to standby or if I have to make the changes manually on stanby site too? I couldn't find clear answer in documentation. how parameter changes work in dg physical configuration?
I have restored database with the name DB to another database called DB01
it is in STARTED status (not mounted) and it seems I can not change the name if it is not mounts, and I can not mount it because of the name, how to solve this issue if possible? I have RMAN full backup from DB on my current server which hosting the database DB01 the initdb01.ora is ready and configured with DB01
what can I do next
ORA-01103: database name 'DB' in control file is not 'DB01'
I want to change space allocation for character columns in my database, So it will store them as 'CHAR' and not 'BYTE'.my character set is
SQL> SELECT VALUE FROM V$NLS_PARAMETERS WHERE PARAMETER='NLS_CHARACTERSET'; VALUE ---------------------------------------------------------------- AL32UTF8 SQL> alter system set NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS='CHAR' scope=both;
System altered.I bounced the instance just to make sure
And then I want to see that when I create a table with some varchar2 column,The space for it will be allocated by chars, and not by bytes! However, when I run a check of create table, this is what I get:
I downloaded Oracle Database 11g Express Edition R2 to test Apex (I've never used). I want to know how to change the language of the version of Apex (integrated with Oracle Database 11g XE)? I would apex in French.
I have a requirement to change the instance parameter of the primary database and standby in the data guard. Any procedure to do the same. I have to do it directly on production and there is no test set up so I cannot experiment . The procedure I am thinking of is as below.
1. Stop the standby
2. backup the primary
3. Change the parameter and restart to make it effective
4. Start the primary
5. Go to stand by
6. Change the parameter and mount the database.
7. Check if both are in sync and apply logs if not.
I am using oracle 10g with data guard configured , I have primary ( A ) and standby database ( B ) .But because of some unavoidable conditions the primary database ( A ) got shutdown and was not starting , We shifted the standby database ( B ) at new location and changed it to primary with following command ,
startup mount; alter database recover managed standby database finish; alter database commit to switchover to physical primary; shutdown; startup;
This new primary ( B ) was open for end users for 2 days during which old primary ( A ) was shutdown .
I took the backup of ( B ) and restored it on A AND shutdown the B . Now A is acting as Primary database. Server B is shutdown . I want to change server B to standby database with A running as Primary .Is it possible ?
We have 2 node (n1 nad n2 ) RAC and 3rd node (n3) with Dataguard logical database for reporting ..
1. logical database (n3) not syn with primary (n1,n2) 2. During repair above mentioned problem by mistake my logical(n3) also become primary 3. now how I will again change my n3 to logical 4. I got following error
RE: ORA-16009: remote archive log destination must be a STANDBY database
how to design the ERD for Rental Management like I want know how to design tables to check every month's rent. Is there any way to store month and year with out day in database?
I am trying to drop 90 columns from a big partitioned table. I was trying a physical drop first and since it is taking longer time I decided make the columns unused state and drop them. However I was able to set them to unused state.
Now I am trying to drop those unused columns from the table, it is running since 22hours Apporox. I am keep increasing the undo tablespace to retain the undo data.
I also have decreased the undo_retention to 300 from 900.
My question is there any better way to drop these columns. And is there any way to flush out the data from undo.
I have a quick question about Automatic Memory Management in 11g. I know that it combines the SGA and PGA components together, but the pga_aggregate_target (in 10g) was a target, rather than a strict limit. In certain circumstances you could (and we have) exceed the pga_ aggregate_ target by quite some way.
If I use AMM, does this enforce a limit on the PGA usage – or if I through enough bind variables at it, can I still exceed the ‘target’?
I just wanted to know if removing access for management and tuning packs in OEM disbale its access in just enterprise manager or in the database as well, i mean would that disable access to the scripts in the rdbms.admin driectory as well.
