SQL & PL/SQL :: Regexp_replace Function

Jul 14, 2010

I've been tasked to parse tags from a string that look like the following:

{Date + XXX}

where XXX represents a numeric value. I have to replace this, including the brace characters with

SYSDATE + XXX

which will ultimately calculate SYSDATE plus the number of days suggested by XXX. The problem is that I am trying to use regexp_replace to achieve this goal but since XXX is completely arbitrary, I cannot search for it as a fixed value. So, ultimately, I would like to use a regular expression that ignores the numeric part of my search and only replaces the starting brace, the "Date + " part and the ending brace, leaving the numeric portion intact. I was trying to do something like the following

myString := regexp_replace(myString, '{(Date + [^[::digit:]]{1,})}', to_char(SYSDATE, 'FMMONTH DD, YYYY'));

in hopes of making it ignore the numeric part but it, instead, treats occurrences as a non match. Alternatively, the call below

myString := regexp_replace(myString, '{(Date + [[:digit:]{1,})}', to_char(SYSDATE, 'FMMONTH DD, YYYY'));

matches correctly but replaces the numeric portion as well, so I'm left with just today's date instead of the calculated future date...

PL/SQL :: Using Regexp_replace In Query

May 23, 2013

I am looking for the best fastest to process by searching string and replace values. I am process many rows like 200k,

search for strings starting with "S" or "M" and replace only those letters with NULL eg S8795371 becomes 8795371, and M4454332 becomes 4454332 however other string values shouldn't be affected only if it starts with S/M. i was thinking of using REGEXP_REPLACE and what is the best way to construct this statement?

PL/SQL :: How To Use REGEXP_REPLACE To Remove ORACODES

Dec 27, 2012

Basically I need to use REGEXP_REPLACE in order to remove from a string certain oracle code pricislly those which are used on RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR from 20000 to 20999. We have an application here that handles those exceptions and each exception append each other so inside them we can find those ORA-20001: Some error. ]

So I was wondering if I can achieve that by using REGEXP_REPLACE. So which regexp I could use so that I can remove those oracode only!

SQL> column str format a30
SQL> column replaced format a30

SQL & PL/SQL :: Alternative For Not In

Nov 8, 2011

I've got to create 2 tables...

Table 1 include members of a certain club with specific criteria
Table 2 needs to include everyone else on the main database, not in the club, but with the same criteria.

So, ultimate goal is to have two tables, similar criteria, T1 = club members and T2 = non-club members

Table 1 ran just fine.

Table 2 is running and running and running. I'm looking for a more efficient way then the syntax below:

create table NON_club_Members nologging as
select distinct hcp.ID, count (distinct hcp.profile_key)
from mrtcustomer.table_1 hcp, Club_Members cm
where hcp.child_birth_dt between '31-OCT-2000' and '30-OCT-2011'
and hcp.ID not in
(select cm.id from Club_Members)
group by hcp.id

I've also tried <> and that also ran and ran and ran.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Alternative To UTL FILE?

Jan 12, 2011

I have been told that I cannot use Oracle directory objects, external tables and the UTL_FILE package in my production environment for security reasons.

In this scenario what are the alternate options available in Oracle to write a file and save it in a specific location in the server. One of my requirement is to process a file and write the results of processing in a output file in the application server which in turn will be accessed by the online application.

Alternative To DESC

Dec 12, 2006

For whatever reason, in PHP, DESC statements do not work. They're simply unrecognized and you get an OCI "invalid SQL statement" error. It may be some sort of security feature. I've also had the same result with the SQL scratchpad in the Java EM, but not in SQL Plus. Is there an alternative method for getting details on a table that I can use that also doesn't require being logged in as a SYSDBA?

Initial And Next Extents

Nov 2, 2010

settings I can make for Initial and Next extents? I am working at a client site where they have an in-house E-Business Suite database that is running very fast. In most cases the initial extent on the big tables is set to something like 64Mb with the next extent set to figures varying between 25Mb and 50Mb. What this means is that we don't have many extents.

They have recently outsourced their database to Oracle on Demand and are getting poor performance. Over at OOD the initial extents remain as set in the local database - taken from a clone. However, all of the next extents are set small to nimbers like 128Kb. Some of the big Oracle EBS tables have more than 128Kb in a single record and we are seeing many 1000s of extents already.

Could the large number of extents and the small size of the next extent be the cause of a substantial decrese in performance? I'm looking for some justification to go back to OOD with a view to asking them to reinstate the settings as they were in the client database before it was migrated.

What Will Be Initial Extent Size

Oct 29, 2010

I've read the documentation that describes the storage management.I create a tablespace as:

CREATE TABLESPACE MY_TABLESPACE_NAME
DATAFILE 'path/filename1.dbf' SIZE 3000M AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 200M MAXSIZE 4000M
LOGGING
ONLINE
PERMANENT
EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M
BLOCKSIZE 8k
SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT AUTO
FLASHBACK ON;

As the extent management is local, does it mean that any storage clause of the objects (tables, indexes etc.) placed in it isn't taken into consideration? I mean in a case of placing a table in the mentioned tablespace that has a storege parameters defined as follows:

CREATE TABLE MY_TABLE(
...
)
TABLESPACE MY_TABLESPACE_NAME
PCTFREE 10
INITRANS 1
MAXTRANS 255
STORAGE (
INITIAL 100M
NEXT 20M
MINEXTENTS 1
MAXEXTENTS 50
BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT
)

1. what will be the initial extent size? 1M or 100M?
2. what will be the next extent size? 1M or 20M?
3. will the maxextents parameter be taken into consideration?
4. when i'm sure the tablespace is dedicated to keep only one object [MY_TABLE], what should be the relation between the initial datafile size [filename1.dbf] and the initial extent size? Should they be iqual or doesn't matter?
5. as the SEGMENT SPACE MANAGEMENT is AUTO, the PCTFREE param doesn't make sense, right?

Performance Tuning :: Getting Alternative To REPLACE Function?

Jun 12, 2010

I have a table with:

1 million rows
average row length 200 bytes
50 columns
and this update statement
UPDATE mytable SET varchar2_4000_column = replace(replace(replace...300 times)

It looks at every row in the table (no WHERE clause) and does these 300 replace operations on this column for each row. Each replace replaces with a null so effectively it is removing strings. Much of the time these strings are not in the column.

This update statement takes 25 minutes and it is 98% CPU and 2% USER_IO time.

I figure that is what is taking all the time since it is a CPU bound statement. if rows in this table are persistent over time then tag rows with a flag to show which ones have already been processed and skip these next time around.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Alternative To Nested Group By For Performance Enhancement?

My current query is:

SELECT * FROM TRY_B

SELECT GROUP_NO

Replication :: Initial Sync Of CDC Subscriber

Mar 6, 2008

I'm trying to work out how to synchronize a source and target database in an Oracle CDC implementation. We're in the architecture design stage of a near-real-time Operational Data Store style solution. Both the ODS and our pilot source system will be Oracle 10g. Our plan is to use Oracle Asynch Hotlog Change Data Capture to capture change data in near-real-time so that it can be applied to the ODS.

I understand the CDC apply process once the ODS and Source System are synchronized: DBMS_CDC_SUBSCRIBE.EXTEND_WINDOW to release the next window of change data, select from the publish views, then DBMS_CDC_SUBSCRIBE.PURGE_WINDOW to register the change data is no longer required.

But how do we do the initial synchronization if the source system is live and contains data and the ODS is new (and empty)? The easiest way would be to somehow flag EVERY row as change data. eg. Truncate every table and import. This would not be so good for existing CDC subscribers.

A more logical way would be to:

- Take a hot backup of the live prod database
- Activate CDC (DBMS_CDC_SUBSCRIBE.ACTIVATE_SUBSCRIPTION) on the source system to start tracking changes
- Manually build the ODS from the snapshot
- Start applying changes from CDC

if the source system is live, how can we GUARANTEE that the first 2 steps (snapshot and ACTIVATE_SUBSCRIPTION) are performed at EXACTLY the same time (ie. same SCN)?

i)Is query in the MVIEWS (MV_ABC) SYSDATE-1 will be changed on each FAST Refresh, as observation (as per definition) it is incrementing the records to intial extracted data?

ii)As COMPLETE Refresh will be expensive to execute on the partition base table on each refresh.
Is there any alternative way to achieve the Nature of COMPLETE REFRESH in Materialized View?

iii)Is Delete or Conditional Delete option is possible in Materialized View (i.e not a delete from the base table but the delete from MVIEWS)?

iv)What is the machnism for populating the logs for MVIEWS?Is it overhead for the system and better than a Trigger based approach?
