I have a table T1.In that table i have a column id, i gave a number datatype for id as number(2,2). when i try to insert the value im getting an error.

what people have set for the SGA and PGA sizes for their larger usage, larger data, databases? I've been seeing one of our warehouses grow both in terms of tables (number and sizes) and users groups querying the database. We're at 96g sga and 10g pga, but was thinking in terms of 1/2 tB machine to pin some larger tables. I know we'll have SSD soon, but am seeing enourmous numbers of reports using windowing and analytic functions and in line sets being created. How big in general do you have your larger systems set to?
when I am running a cursor and printing its data into an excel file using utl_file, the file size is nearly 50mb. But if I run the cursor and copy its data manually into an excel sheet the file size is only 22mb. I am unable to undersatnd why there is difference in file size.
I have this problem. I need to print in paper size of 14.875x11 or us std fan fold. But when I print, some part is not printed, like a size of 11x8.5. Questions:
1) Is there a way I can print in 14.875x11 without configuring the page setup to 14.875x11 and automatically print what ever i can see on my live pre viewer? 2) What should be the value of Report Width/Height if it affects the printing size?
When we are trying to create number data type column of a table with precision greater than actual value,it's accepting the definition of the table . But we are unable to insert any values into the table.how internally it stores the value
SQL> drop table precision_test; Table dropped SQL> create table precision_test(name number(2,5)); Table created SQL> insert into precision_test values (1); insert into precision_test values (1) [code]....
2114 rows I got the same result if I use NVL(o.scn,0) rather than TO_NUMBER(o.scn). I can't find out why this happens. Obviously, the ">" condition doesn't match when the difference is too small.
AFAIK, ora_rowscn is a NUMBER while my "scn" column is a NUMBER(12) (which should be sufficient to store my DB or remote DB's SCN).
I am trying to run copy command to copy data from one database to other.I 'm getting this error while running copy command. "ORA-01727: numeric precision specifier is out of range (1 to 38)"
Procedure countyname(i_lat IN Number, i_lon IN NUMBER, o_countyname OUT VARCHAR2);
The procedure works fine when the input parameter values are small precision like 30.653, -618.765 etc.it fails if the Input parameter values have more precise like 35.694872140886...I think the IN Number can only take upto certain precission.
Is there any way I can specify the precision for a NUMBER input parameter in a procedure?
ex: Procedure countyname(i_lat IN Number(30,10), i_lon IN NUMBER(30,10), o_countyname OUT VARCHAR2);
when I tried the above statement it doesn't compile it gives PLS-00103 error.
We have truncated number based on the decimal value. i tried to truncate number based on the precision using cast function. i got an error "value larger than specified precision allowed for this colum".
create table TEST_NUMBER (id number(4,1)); insert into TEST_NUMBER values(1234.789888888888);

ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allowed for this column 01438. 00000 - "value larger than specified precision allowed for this column" *Cause: When inserting or updating records, a numeric value was entered that exceeded the precision defined for the column. *Action: Enter a value that complies with the numeric column's precision, or use the MODIFY option with the ALTER TABLE command to expand the precision.
POWER(47.3616, 27.1261) returns: 2.80403309600359E45 which causes "number precision too large" error in my variable which is defined as NUMBER(20,20).
I've tried ROUNDing and TRUNCing the product, but still get the same long output. The only thing that seems to work is SUBSTR.
Is that the ONLY way to deal with this? It seems like there would be a better way or is there another type I should use these super long decimal results?
SQL> SELECT POWER(47.3616, 27.1261) AS Exp_Val 2 FROM dual; EXP_VAL ---------- 2.8040E+45 SQL>
I am working on an application that pulls data from an Oracle view into Microsoft Excel (Oracle 11g, MS Excel 2003). It is an automated pivot table created through vba. The problem I'm having is that the decimal points from number columns are being truncated - they don't make it to the pivot table.
When I use the pivot table wizard and set the external data source using a SQL string (select * from view), the precision is not lost. When I create the pivot table automatically in vba, the precision is lost. The pivot table settings, regardless of how the data is brought in, shows the format of the number column as general. This tells me that Excel is trying to figure out what the data type is, and can't (not smart enough).
When looking at the description of the view, the data type is NUMBER (no precision). The table that it is pulling from has the precision set (NUMBER(11,3)). I have tried using the following, but it doesn't work:
select to_number(field_name, '99999999.999') field_name from view
Database was recently upgraded from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3 and the EM dbcontol repository was recreated.If I schedule a sql tuning advisor task for any sql query, i get this error. I have also tried to drop sysman user and recreate it, but no luck.

I'm currently doing migration from Oracle 10gR2 RDF to Oracle 11gR2 Semantic Technology.I followed the steps on the documentation and successfully created the network using the following:
----- EXECUTE SEM_APIS.CREATE_SEM_NETWORK('rdf_tblspace'); CREATE TABLE rdf_network_trace (id NUMBER, triple SDO_RDF_TRIPLE_S); --Created SEQUENCE andTRIGGER FOR rdf_network_trace id [code]....
when I looked at my Node Ids, they were like +635762253807433724+, +6118969225776891730+. The problem is, I am not the one who is assigning Node Ids, They were automatically generated when inserting TRIPLE data to the rdf table.
Is there a technique to getting a Top-N query to work as a sub-select in a larger query -or- is there another way to generate Top-N like results that works as a sub-select?
Background:
We have a large query that is being used to build an export from a legacy HR system to a new one. Amount the data needed in the export is the employees primary phone number.
The legacy HR system allows multiple phone numbers to be stored in a simple table structure:
SELECT emp_id, phone_type, phone_number FROM employee_phones
The new HR system does allow for multiple phone numbers, however they need a primary phone number identified and stored with the employee master information. (Subsequent phone numbers get stored in alternate table.)
From a business perspective, we have decided that if they have a HOME phone in the legacy system that should be the primary in the new system, if no HOME phone, then WORK, if no WORK then CELL.
That can be represented as:
SELECT * FROM employee_people_phones WHERE emp_id = '46021' ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')
SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM employee_people_phones WHERE emp_id = '46021' ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results WHERE ROWNUM = 1
SELECT phone_number FROM (SELECT phone_number FROM employee_people_phones WHERE emp_id = '46021' ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results WHERE ROWNUM = 1
phone_number ------------------- 1111111111
However, when the Top-N query is added as a sub-select in a larger query using the employee id from the larger query (WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id), it fails saying that export.emp_id is not a valid id.
(SELECT phone_number FROM (SELECT phone_number FROM employee_people_phones WHERE emp_id = export.emp_id ORDER BY decode(phone_type, 'HOME', 'a', 'WORK', 'b', 'CELL', 'c', 'z')) results WHERE ROWNUM = 1)
1.Any way around this? Is it possible to put a Top-N (with a WHERE clause using data from the main query) in a sub-select?
2.Any alternatives (other than Top-N) to delivering a ROWNUM=1 result with a custom ORDER BY statement?
Other Notes: Yes, we know we could do two queries in the data conversion first deliver the bulk data to the target table, and then update with the phone numbers. However, for multiple reasons, that is less than desirable.
I have one hirarchical query which return the parent to child hirarch level data. it has 11 level child data. i want to create column based on number of child in hirarchy. though i know it is 11 but it can change also.Is there any way i can create the column dynamically
On my APEX page i have region which has sql query as source and it displays as HTML table the query result to the user.
I want to display addinonal column with a hyperlink inside, and that hyperlink would have CGI/URL-parameters which contains the other values of the HTML row.
So, let's say my APEX region queryes columns as "select c1, c2, c3, c4 ..." and displays out values "V1, V2, V3, V4" then i want to have addional output column with such hyperlink:
a href="f?p=100:7:13467554876288::NO::c1,c2,c3,c4:v1,v2,v3,v4">My link column with CGI-parameters</aHow can i create such hyperlink?
The overall idea is that the link would forward to a page which loads those values "v1,v2,v3,v4" into form fields and user can proceed from there.
I'm trying to do a pivot query in oracle to get the years from a column and make a separate column for each. I found an example of the code to use on the internet and i changed it for my own tables but i'm getting errors. Namely a "FROM keyword not where expected" error at the beginning of the 'avg(...' statements.
I have copied the code used in
select stud_id, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 from ( select stud_id, avg(case when year=2006 then ((present/poss)*100) else null end) 2006, avg(case when year=2007 then ((present/poss)*100) else null end) 2007, avg(case when year=2008 then ((present/poss)*100) else null end) 2008, avg(case when year=2009 then ((present/poss)*100) else null end) 2009 from attendance.vw_all_attendance_perc group by stud_id );
(1) how can i fill some value in a table column based on some existing column value automatically without user intervention. my actual problem is i have 'expiry date' column and 'status'. the 'status' column should get filled automatically based on the current system date. ex: if expiry date is '25-Apr-2011' and current date is '14-May-2011', then status should be filled as 'EXPIRED'
(2)hOw can i build 'select' query in a report (report 6i) so that it will show me list of items 'EXPIRED' or 'NOT EXPIRED' or both expired and not expired separately in a single report based on user choice. 'EXPIRED' & 'NOT EXPIRED' can be taken from the above question no. 1.
<Column name> value 1 value 2 value 3 . . . value n
Since the column is small it can fit in a page more then one time. I know how to make it print more then once: i switch the repeating frame to print down and across and i modify the frame that contains it so the horizontal elasticity is variable.
After these changes my report looks like this: <Column name> value 1-----------------------value n+1-----------------------value m+1 value 2-----------------------value n+2-----------------------value m+2 value 3-----------------------value n+3-----------------------... .------------------------------- . .------------------------------- . .------------------------------- . value n-----------------------value m
What i want is my report to look like this:
<Column name>-------<Column name>------------<Column name> value 1-----------------------value n+1-----------------------value m+1 value 2-----------------------value n+2-----------------------value m+2 value 3-----------------------value n+3-----------------------... .------------------------------- . .------------------------------- . .------------------------------- . value n-----------------------value m
I have written the code for sql loader, I have given termination of file is | , i have given five columns name in sequence...My Requirement is that i want to mapped 100th column from Csv file after 5th column how to do it.

We are using Oracle 11g with Apex 3.2 on AIX. We are reporting data from customer satisfaction surveys. I'm using the following sql to create my report
<code>select * from( select month,'Overall Satisfaction' as q_group, 1 as srt,Overall Satisfaction,site, case when count(*) < 31 then '*' else round((sum(ttos)/count(*))*100,0)||'/'|round((sum(bfos)/count(*))*100,0)||'/'||count(*) end ospct from v_XXX_report a,(select distinct month_dt month from v_XXX_report) b where Overall_Satisfaction is not null and year_dt = 2012
[Code]....
The problem is that site is not allways present and sometimes I have other variables in addition to site. This creates a situation where the month columns will not allways appear at the same column number. For example, When I run this query as is then the "JAN" column is Col3 (first column is a break, col2 is not shown). When I run this query without site then "JAN" is the second column. I would like to create column links for the "JAN" - "DEC" columns but not for any other columns.
Another issue - in the column link creation screen I can create up to 3 variables that I can pass to the next page. Since my query is a pivot I'm uncertain how to pass the column heading or the row value (for col2)
ie Overall Satisfaction JAN FEB MAR APR MAY ... Overall Satisfaction 12/12/200 12/12/210 12/12/220 12/12/230 12/12/240... Recommend 12/12/200 12/12/210 12/12/220 12/12/230 12/12/240... etc.
So if I clicked on the values at Recommend:FEB how can I get "Recommend" and "FEB" into variables that I can use on the next page? I've tried #column_name#, #month#, #q_name# and #APEX_APPLICATION.G_F10# but no luck.
I want to pass multiple column values of a row in an interactive report page to hidden items in another page through column link. And I did it successfully. However, I found I need to pass more than 3 columns of a row in this report, while a column link only permits me to pass 3 column value at most. Is there anyway that I can pass more column values to hidden items in another page?
I have a table where i have description column which free text column, the data in description column is seperated and i want to corvert 1 row data in multiple rows dependeing on the number of words.
eg
id description 78664 Pumps Alarm from CAMS RTU154
In the above example this column has 5 word so i want data in 5 rows like below
78664 Pumps 78664 Alarm 78664 from 78664 CAMS 78664 RTU154
This column data can be varied from 1 to any number of words.
