SQL & PL/SQL :: ORA-06502 - Numeric Or Value Error - Character To Number Conversion?

Aug 4, 2011

I got a string in the form 1+2+4.If we write select 1+2+4 from dual;then we get o/p as 7.but the same thing iam trying to do in a bit of pl/sql program by passing the string 1+2+4 value to a number variable as below.

COUNT_TASK := TO_NUMBER(TASK6_STATUS);

TASK6_STATUS value is 1+2+4 (this thing i got by replacing the string and lots of stuff) but i need the result after adding these 3 numbers in the string. and i declare COUNT_TASK as NUMBER;and i am very well aware that it gives me the error ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error

how to add these numbers in my program to get the result 7.

Error Due To Precision Value - ORA-06502

Aug 23, 2012

I got the error "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: number precision too large" while assigning a value to variable.

For example var Number(5,3);
var:=225.345

Here it should give this error since the no.of digits before decimal should not be more than 2.

In of the procedure, I am getting this error.

Is there any way can we check this violation before assigning this values to a variable?

For example, if the value is too large, we can give a default value etc before assigning it.

Environment: UNIX AIX - 5.3, Oracle 11.2.0.1

(number Precision Too Large) Using POWER (n / M) Function?

Feb 14, 2012

POWER(47.3616, 27.1261) returns: 2.80403309600359E45 which causes "number precision too large" error in my variable which is defined as NUMBER(20,20).

I've tried ROUNDing and TRUNCing the product, but still get the same long output. The only thing that seems to work is SUBSTR.

Is that the ONLY way to deal with this? It seems like there would be a better way or is there another type I should use these super long decimal results?

SQL> SELECT POWER(47.3616, 27.1261) AS Exp_Val
2 FROM dual;

ORA-06502 - PL/SQL - Numeric Or Value Error

Jul 29, 2011

I have a requirement in which I have to append LOBs and I have to insert the LOB into a table column. I am facing problem when the data exceeds certain limit. (please note that my program logic is given below, not the exact program)

DECLARE

final_html CLOB;
int_html CLOB;
v_str VARCHAR2(32767);
i number:=0;
BEGIN
dbms_lob.createtemporary(lob_loc => int_html, CACHE => TRUE, dur => dbms_lob.CALL);
dbms_lob.createtemporary(lob_loc => final_html, CACHE => TRUE, dur => dbms_lob.CALL);
DBMS_LOB.OPEN(int_html, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READWRITE);
DBMS_LOB.OPEN(final_html, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READWRITE);
dbms_output.ENABLE(1000000);
[code]....

when the looping is done for lesser value say for e.g FOR i IN 1..10 loop, the program works fine, but when the looping is done for more values I am getting "-6502-ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error" error message.

SQL & PL/SQL :: ORA-06502 - Numeric Or Value Error - NULL Index Table Key Value

Aug 12, 2013

so im running this script

DECLARE
STQ_ID NUMBER;
MESSAGE VARCHAR2(500);

[Code].....

and getting this error ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value

the code where it is inserting and getting out of it values is:

IF vt_Prs_Code_Ipr.COUNT <> 0 THEN
IF vt_Ist_Code_Ipr(1) IS NOT NULL THEN
IF vr_data.insurance_kind = 'B' THEN

[Code]....

Im running script at PL/SQL Developer and using debugger, i see that it's inserting dates but at some point between point 5.3.2.1.1 till 5.3.2.1.5 it returns no dates :/ basically it needs to stop at 5.3.2.1.2 and in form need return date 02.02.1996, but it returns 01.01.1996 + gives that ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value

edit: vt_SnpStartDate(v_Idx)is 01.01.1996
vt_SnpEndDate(v_Idx) is 31.12.1996
vt_prd_tbl(v_Idx2).Start_Date is 01.01.1996
vt_prd_tbl(v_Idx2).End_Date is 01.02.1996

at p.5.3.2.1.3 it shows that there is no date in vt_prd_tbl(v_Idx2).Start_Date and is returning ora error, why?

SQL & PL/SQL :: How To Specify Precision And Scale For NUMBER Parameter In Procedure

Nov 7, 2012

I have a procedure. Here is the spec

Procedure countyname(i_lat IN Number, i_lon IN NUMBER, o_countyname OUT VARCHAR2);

The procedure works fine when the input parameter values are small precision like 30.653, -618.765 etc.it fails if the Input parameter values have more precise like 35.694872140886...I think the IN Number can only take upto certain precission.

Is there any way I can specify the precision for a NUMBER input parameter in a procedure?

ex: Procedure countyname(i_lat IN Number(30,10), i_lon IN NUMBER(30,10), o_countyname OUT VARCHAR2);

when I tried the above statement it doesn't compile it gives PLS-00103 error.

Force View Number Data Type Precision?

Aug 18, 2011

I am working on an application that pulls data from an Oracle view into Microsoft Excel (Oracle 11g, MS Excel 2003). It is an automated pivot table created through vba. The problem I'm having is that the decimal points from number columns are being truncated - they don't make it to the pivot table.

When I use the pivot table wizard and set the external data source using a SQL string (select * from view), the precision is not lost. When I create the pivot table automatically in vba, the precision is lost. The pivot table settings, regardless of how the data is brought in, shows the format of the number column as general. This tells me that Excel is trying to figure out what the data type is, and can't (not smart enough).

When looking at the description of the view, the data type is NUMBER (no precision). The table that it is pulling from has the precision set (NUMBER(11,3)). I have tried using the following, but it doesn't work:

select to_number(field_name, '99999999.999') field_name from view

Forms :: Trigger Causing Error ORA-06502 And ORA-01403?

May 2, 2006

My layout is working well enough triggers though are causing me some problems. I am getting the following error message just about every time I write a trigger so I am getting the feeling I am doing something fundamentally wrong. Like there is something I am just not getting because I am getting this error on the simplest of actions.

The error:
FRM-40735: WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger raised unhandled exception ORA-06502.
--------------------------------------------------------------
ORA-01403: no data found

The trigger is this:
cs3_prog.set_date_mode;

this calls the following procedure in the package cs3_prog:

procedure set_date_mode IS
BEGIN
:cs3_data.street := 'something';
end;

this in the past did a lot more but I kept throwing stuff out to see what could have been causing the problem. This does actually work if I ok through the first error message and then try entering data again into the field the trigger is tied to. On this second firing of the trigger is does successfully alter the value.

Just the fact that this is happening every time I create a trigger and it seems to happen regardless of what I have the trigger doing leads me to believe I have something fundamentally wrong and I would love to have it set straight.

SQL & PL/SQL :: Displaying N Number Of Rows From Large Result Set

Nov 29, 2012

I have a query that returns 11 Million rows but not all of them can be displayed in SQLDeveloper or DBVisualizer because of limited memory or other type of issues. I need to copy the entire result set to excel for further calculations.

Is there any way that i can select N number of rows out of my actual result set.

For example:
a) A result set contains 10 Million rows in total.
b) I want to display first 5 Million rows by executing a query
c) Then I want to display the remaining 5 Million rows by executing the query again with any parameter changes.

So all I want is to extract the rows of my actual result set in two or more executions, depending on the number of rows.

PL/SQL :: Deleting Large Number Of Rows From Table

Apr 30, 2013

Consider tables A,B,C,D,E,F. all are having 100000++ records Tables B,C,D are dependent on table A (with foreign key constraint). When I am deleting records from all tables, table B,C,D are taking max 30-40 seconds while table A is taking 30-40 mins. All tables are having indexes.

Method I have used:

1. Created Temp table

2. then deleted all records from B,C,D,E,F for all records in temp table for limit of 500.
delete from B where exists (select 1 from temp where b.col1=temp.col1);

3. Why it is taking too much time for deleting records in table A.

Is there any thing that during deleting data from such master table, it is referring to all dependent tables even if dependent data is not present ?
