SQL & PL/SQL :: Copying Data From Table (with No Constraints) To Table With Constraints?

Jun 13, 2012

I want to create a store procedure to copy data from a source tables(which may not have any constraints defined) to a table which has primary key, foreign key and unique key constraints.

Any records which are rejected due to these constraints not being satisfied need to go another table.

Once the initial data load is done, these procedures need to be automated(through cron) to do the future incremental uploads in the same manner.

Forms :: Table B Has Foreign Key Reference To Table A

Jan 11, 2012

There are 2 tables : Table A and Table B.Table B has foreign key reference to Table A.There are 2 forms in the application based on table A (form 1) and table B (form 2).

Now when we open form 2, the functionality is such that it acquires a lock on table B for the selected record during the search criteria. Lock is acquired by using "select 1 from table_B where column = :column for update no wait".So when the form 2 is opened by any other user/session and same record is tried to be selected, then an exception is raised to the user that the current record is being edited by some other user and does not allow him to edit that record.

Now imagine if User has opened screen 2 (One record in Table B has been locked). With this lock existing, we open form 1, and click a button which performs a COMMIT_FORM. At this point the form hangs. On checking the locked objects, there is a lock on both table A and table B. When the Form 2 is closed, then the Form 1 which was hanging a while ago starts responding.

When the foreign key relationship is dropped and the above scenario is tried, there is no issue encountered. Form 1 works fine even if form 2 is open.We are not supposed to drop the Foreign key relationship as well.

Replication :: Reorganize One Table That Related To Several Other Tables

May 15, 2009

I have to reorganize one table that related to several other tables. The reorg is too slow when it runs on this table. I would like to create one image of the table and synch it with the original one in real time. So when I run the reorg, I will use the image table that does not constrained by indexes and other objects. Once the reorg is done, I would like to rename the table. how could I do the replication in real time?

XML DB :: How To Select Parent / Child Related Data From XMLTYPE Table

Jan 9, 2013

select * from V$VERSION

BANNER
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
CORE 11.2.0.2.0 Production
TNS for Solaris: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production

I have loaded into an Oracle table defined as XMLTYPE. I'm okay with PL-SQL and stored procedures, where I will ultimately do this processing once I get a handle on XML DB querying from an XMLTYPE table.

Based on reading the oracle documentation about XML DB, and more importantly, reading dozens of posts to this forum,I have been successful in loading the XML files into a SQL XMLTYPE table and doing simple queries against that table to retrieve some of its data so that I can then insert that data into other target oracle relational tables.

how to select parent/child data from XMLTYPE tables. I am able to follow the forum examples and can replicate the methods shown on the many example XML contents shown on this forum, but not against the XML that I have to process. I am wondering if my struggle is caused by my lack of knowledge, or by ill-formed XML content supplied to me by the educational vendor. The XML content has structured the XML content nodes in such a way that I do not seem to be able to apply the parent/child sql methods.I have been able to use for other XML examples I have tested against.

My XML file shown below represents High School Transcript data, for which I need to be able to parse out into my own oracle relational tables for that student, his personal info, and his course info, etc. i.e., for our example, which courses he has taken for which High School grade levels. The vendor-supplied XML seems to put the Courses and the High School grade level in "parallel nodes," instead of parent/child nodes, so I am struggling to be able to use SQL to differentiate which course the student took in NinthGrade versus TenthGrade.

-- WHat I would like to determine from a select statement:

LASTNAME GradeLevel COURSETITLE
=============================
Smith NinthGrade PHYS ED 101
Smith TenthGrade CALCULUS 201
Smith TenthGrade ZOOLOGY 202

(The data has been simpliied and masked, but is true to the content and is queryable).

SQL & PL/SQL :: Add Composite Primary Key To Table That Has Self Referencing Foreign Key

Jan 21, 2012

I have an employee table which has a primary key and a self referencing foreign key, as shown here

create table employee (
id not null,
name not null,
department not null,
supervisor_id not null
,constraint constraint_1 primary key (id)
,constraint constraint_2 foreign key (supervisor_id) references employee (id));

Now if i make the primary key composite, as shown below -

create table employee (
id not null,
name not null,
department not null,
supervisor_id not null
,constraint constraint_1 primary key (id, name)
,constraint constraint_2 foreign key (supervisor_id) references employee (id));

Oracle is throwing the following error -

ORA-02270: no matching unique or primary key for this column-list

How can this error be fixed without changing the composite primary key?

But if we know all the data is correct, it's better to disable all constraints to improve the performance.

We are allowed to Disable or Enable only a single constraint.

Enable or Disable All Constraints.

Server Administration :: How To View Table Constraints Information

Mar 13, 2010

I know that you can view all constraints in a table using $USER_CONSTRAINTS or $USER_INDEXES view. What i find difficult is that the information in those views is not really well presented.

I find it very hard to follow. For example, just to find out which columns are foreign keys and which tables they refer to is really tedious. Is there a simpler way to view all the constraints especially foreign keys of a table and including which table columns they refer to in the child table.

I like to see a diagramatic representaion of all the tables involved so i like to see both the parent and the child tables, which columns are related and using which FKs etc. is there an easier way to view this information?
