Mar 3, 2011I am using Oracle 11.2.1.0 version.I want to restrict archiving for some tables. I think NOLOGGING will solve this problem. Is there any option for restricting archiving.
For example, I have three tables called A, B and C. I want to archive only 2 tables A and B but not C.

We are in the process of setting up our backup policy. After the Archived Logs have been backed up, we need to delete them after 7 days. Also the actual files on disk.
RMAN does not delete the Archived Logs from disk.
Resetting DB Backup Including Archive-logs?
May 10, 2011My supervisor wants to remove all the archivelogs since it was just a test for 1 year the DB is not actually YET been used. Problem is they want it to be used as soon as possible w/o recreating again the database and just removing some data on tables and removed archive logs. how to safely removed the existing archived logs and create a full backup with archived fresh to sequence 1.

Due to which after command (used 2 times) "sql 'alter system archive log current';" I see the following lines in alert log 2 times. Because of this all the online logs are not getting archived (Missing 2 logs per day), the backup taken is unusable when restoring. I am worried about this. I there any to avoid this situation.

How To Capture TXs From Archive Logs To Replay On 10g Database
Feb 12, 2013I am looking for a way to capture a TXs from one database and create a script or use it with tool, so we can capture TXs close to production while testing changes being implemented in database.
Env:
OS: Redhat Linux 5.0
DB: 10.2.0.4
Actually Requirement: We have active-active Golden Gate setup done for one of our DB and once a quarter we make changes in the database using DDL (CREATE / ALTER - TABLES, FUNCTIONS, TRIGGERS, etc). We are 24/7 environment and hence no downtime is affordable. What I like to know is a way to capture all TXs from one of the DB and create a script so we can run them while we are testing new changes in the database. Something like DBMS_WORKLOAD_CAPTURE Package (Available only after 11gR1) or some tools available in the market.
I also tried looking into Load Runner but felt it works with App tier than DB, I may be wrong there.

It is deleting the obsolete backup pieces but it is not deleting old archive logs (obsolete archive logs) and it is not even showing old archives as obsolete when I check thru report obsolete
Data Guard :: Archive Logs Are Being Shipped But Not Applied
Jun 27, 2013Currently I am at the point where the configuration has been completed, and I just need to sync the standby database to the primary one. I can see in the log files that the archive logs are being shipped, but they are not applied on the standby system.
If I run "recover standby database;" manually in sqlplus I can see that it is trying to apply an archive log which is way too old (ORA-00279: change 9656498443 generated at 04/29/2008 08:45:08 needed for thread 1). I
n the alert log I can also see this error: Warning: Recovery target destination is in a sibling branch of the controlfile checkpoint. Recovery will only recover changes to datafiles.
At this point I was thinking that the standby database might be on a different incarnation compared to the primary, but this is not the case, they are both in incarnation 6:6 6 MVF 4023175798 CURRENT 48493546257 13-06-21

Oct 7, 2012We have a nightly rman backup that was complete and clean.The backup contains a Data File, Control File and a backup Archive Log file.The database server crashed with all the subsequent archive logs lost.
We are trying to recover from the three backup files.We are bumping into the backup piece missing as all the archive logs are done. how to restore with the exising backup files. the lost archive logs are probably salvageable.

Restriction On Scalar Subqueries
Feb 21, 2013I would like to pass my 1Z0-047 certification, but I don't understand the limitation on the scalar subqueries, especially for the having clause.
Here is my scalar subquery because it returns only one value.

I use it in a having clause as a scalar subquery and it works

but it is documented that it can't works :

Dec 6, 2012Is there any way to apply the restriction on analytical functions, just like WHERE and HAVING .AS we know that we can apply the restriction on table by using WHERE and grouping functions by using HAVING clause .

now in the second insertion I want to alert the entry user that 9am already falls in the saved record which is 8am to 10am and so that this record can't be saved.
Restriction On Database Access
Oct 17, 2012I have one question regarding database access. I have one database server on which 3 databases are running. I want to restrict each database access for particular group only , so if anyone outside of this group try to access the database then they can not access the database.
Question is end user never login to Database server and access the database , they always connect to the database using different tool like Pl/sql dev,sqldev etc.
Is there any option through which I can make database access within group only ?

Inserting Restriction By Existing Data
Nov 8, 2010In my organization, I have a table and in that there is a column named "code".I want to restrict some insertion to that particular column. suppose that code column values are 12 and 1245 then i cant insert the value 12,1245, 1 ,124 and so on but i can insert 2 ,123,15,12456 and so on.
that means the new values should not be any substring of the existing data from left. making that column primary key and then I had a logic to compare the existing value which are longer than the new value and then to perform this.But dont know how to make it happen correctly.

XML DB :: Possible To Remove XMLSchema Restriction From XMLType Column?
Oct 24, 2012I have an XMLType column that is validated via some XMLSchema. Now I want to remove this restriction and make it just a generic XMLType column. I tried bunch of alter table commands but I couldn't figure out the magic combination. Is this possible?
Here is the actual problem. Unfortunately, we ended up both local and global schemas using the same URL. We have customers out there with both schemas (early customers) or only global schema (new customers). Most of the tables were created before the global schema was added. So, they are referencing the local schema. Now we want to evolve our schema, and I am trying to write a sql script to clean-up this mess. if only global schema exists then (these are late customers)
- do nothingelse if both global and local schema exist then (these are early customers)
- If any table or table.column has dependency on local schema (I can find this out from user_dependencies) I am going to mark those tables/columns as no schema validated. i.e. remove all references to local schema
- delete and purge the local schema
- modify those tables/columns and make them point to the global schema end if
- evolve the schema (only global one is left)
Is there a way to modify a column definition and move its reference from local schema to global schema where both schemas have the same URL? Of course the main constraint is that we do not want to loose customer data. By the way, both local and global schemas are identical in terms of xsd.
