I need to create as many as 100 database with upto 100 users (max) for each database as client. What is the recommended hardware for this server? CPU/ RAM/Harddisk, recommended chipset on the motherboard (in case of database storage capacity required is not high typically - 20 GB is OK per database - average), redundancy is critical, also Oracle database vault is going to be installed; as security is of prime importance between users of different database. Which specific server models from specific vendors like IBM/ Dell/ HP are good ones for this purpose?

Jun 4, 2013We are planning to install second instance of Oracle 11gR2 in Linux server 2.6.39-400.21.1.el6uek.x86_64 x86_64. This is something we never haven done before. The existing instance has all the standard ports:
Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=)(PORT=1521))
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (pterpdb02) = 1158
Enterprise Manager Agent Port (pterpdb02) = 3938
What ports should we select for second listener and enterprise manager? Is there anything else that we need to know before we install the second instance?

Jan 4, 2013I have installed Oracle virtual box on windows host and have created Oracle Linux virtual machine as guest. I have installed the database server on my host machine but rest of the things(Peoplesoft peopletools etc....) on Oracle Linux guest.Now, I am trying to installed database client on guest machine which is Linux so that I can connect to DB server running on host, but having difficulties in doing so.
, I am following the installation instruction given in the doc docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24322.pdf, but when I finally run command runInstaller.sh doesn't happen anything.Actually, to install other software's I just double clicked the .sh file and it automatically started the installation process on a terminal window but when I clicked runInstaller.sh to install DB client, it didn't do anything.
Also, when I run the same command runInstaller.sh from command line after navigating to the directory where this file is present, It throws me error saying "no command found".By the way, why the steps given in doc are so complex, I wish If I could just double click runInstaller.sh just like others and it start the installation process.

Oct 19, 2012i want to know is there any difference between upgradation of SID and database. while upgrading my database from oracle 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.3 in DBUA it shows my SID is upgrading (ORCL) but i have few other databases ex (test and prod).
is it enough if we upgrade the SID or we must perform any other actions..

Feb 9, 2012We are having major differences in performance when accessing an Oracle 11gR2 database from two different environments.
I won't sadden you with the gory details of the full application but I will use an indicative example of our problem.
We have SQL Developer in both environments. In each of these SQL Developer instances is a defined a connection to the same database on another machine. So there is the PC looking at a database and a virtual instance looking at the same database.
Selecting the '+' sign next to 'tables' for that connection, on the PC the list of four tables comes back in 4 seconds but on the virtual instance the list of the same four tables comes back in 1 minute and 50 seconds.
This sort of timing issue is repeatable for all accesses to the Oracle database on the third machine.
