(1) how can i fill some value in a table column based on some existing column value automatically without user intervention. my actual problem is i have 'expiry date' column and 'status'. the 'status' column should get filled automatically based on the current system date. ex: if expiry date is '25-Apr-2011' and current date is '14-May-2011', then status should be filled as 'EXPIRED'
(2)hOw can i build 'select' query in a report (report 6i) so that it will show me list of items 'EXPIRED' or 'NOT EXPIRED' or both expired and not expired separately in a single report based on user choice. 'EXPIRED' & 'NOT EXPIRED' can be taken from the above question no. 1.

Oct 12, 2012On a "Form on a table with report" page created with the wizard, I want to add a new report column from the underlying table (this is the multi-row page). If I try to add the column name to the query, Apex tells me:
"You have requested to change the Interactive Report query. If you added columns to the query, they will not be displayed when the report is run. You will need to use the actions menu and either select the columns or click Reset. If you removed any columns from the query, it will disable existing filters, highlight rules, and other report settings referencing those columns. Please confirm your request."
I sure don't want to start over and re-build the page, so where the heck is this "actions menu"?
I'm running Apex 4.1.
Performance Tuning :: Unable To Update Newly Added Column In Existing Table
May 21, 2013I am facing some challenge while running update query on newly added column in existing table.
Environment Details
Oracle 9i, version 9.2.0.6
Os Unix Aix 6.1
No of records in table : 12572770
Below are the step i followed.
1. In table testtablename, I have added new column COLUMNNAME29 with datatype VARCHAR2(8).
2. After adding the new column, i executed the update query to populate the data form COLUMNNAME1 to COLUMNNAME29.
3. The query is executed using COLUMNNAME24 in where clause, to drive query in index based.
SQL> desc testtablename

Problem faced & My analysis
1. The update query is hanging in database, it's not progressing (In single update, approximately 40000 records will get update)
2. No oracle error thrown in alert log or in session where the query being executed.
3. The event for the query is "db file sequential read".
4. When i update the newly added column COLUMNNAME29 with static value "1", the update completed successfully in few seconds.
5. Then i changed the static value to "1111" and executed the update statement, which result to query hanging in database.
6. I tried to update the existing column(COLUMNNAME1) in table with static value "1111", the update completed successfully.

Mar 13, 2012 want to create a PL/SQL procedure, update_id(id_emp in number), that gives a new id_emp (id_emp=y) to an existing employee (id_emp=x).So before updating the EMP table, we have to :
1- create a new row on EMP(with id_emp=y) that has the same informations of the employee (id_emp=x),
2- update all tables that contains the id_emp column (update <TAB> set id_emp=y where id_emp=x),
3- delete employee (id_emp=x).
The problem is in step 2 : it creates a lot of locks and makes the DB unusable.To deal with this problem, I thought for many solutions, but the problem is how to implement them correctly and efficiently.
Before executing step 2, we have to ensure (through a marker I guess) that all the tables that have the id_emp column, are managed by our session, and any other acces (through SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT statment) from another session will be rejected since we have a marker on that table.
When step 2 ends, we release all the tables from the markers.
My simple question : how to achieve this ?

Inserting Restriction By Existing Data
Nov 8, 2010In my organization, I have a table and in that there is a column named "code".I want to restrict some insertion to that particular column. suppose that code column values are 12 and 1245 then i cant insert the value 12,1245, 1 ,124 and so on but i can insert 2 ,123,15,12456 and so on.
that means the new values should not be any substring of the existing data from left. making that column primary key and then I had a logic to compare the existing value which are longer than the new value and then to perform this.But dont know how to make it happen correctly.

I have to check if an entry exists in a table.
- if it exists ...... do something
- if not ...... simply go on
I tried the following:
select Count(*)from products p
where p.productNbr = temp_Nbr
Group By t.produkt;
I fetched the result into a variable entries
if entries > 0 .....
MY problem is the following:
If there are entries (entries>0) --> it works
If there are no entries, entries is not 0 but 'no data found' --> crash
I cannot work with Exceptions because this all happens in a Loop which must go on in both cases!

Jul 5, 2012Today I found myself in a situation where I needed to compress an already existing, partitioned index. First I issued an alter table to rebuild and compress the whole index:
SQL> ALTER INDEX MY_INDEX REBUILD COMPRESS;
ERROR at line 1:ORA-14086: a partitioned index may not be rebuilt as a wholeSo next I tried to rebuild compress one of the partitions:
SQL> ALTER INDEX MY_INDEX REBUILD PARTITION PART1 COMPRESS;
ERROR at line 1:ORA-28659: COMPRESS must be specified at object level first
Turns out that there is no way you can do a rebuild compress on partitioned indexes. I did not realize that until I stumbled across document 312843.1 on Metalink. It says the only way to compress a partitioned index is to drop it and recreate it (through 11.2).
My question is do we have any new feature in Oracle 11gR2 to rebuild partition indexes?

Want to add some TENTATIVE value for the already existing one. I could do that by dropping the constraint
ALTER TABLE table_1 DROP CONSTRAINT const_chk and modifying it later as
alter table table_1 add constraint const_chk check (ATTRIBUTE7 in
('READ','UNREAD','TENTATIVE');
Is it possible to do that with out dropping the constraint?
