I am having Oracle 11g (Release 11.2.0.2.0) running on Windows Server 2007 SP2. I am trying to connect to this server from my system using SQL Plus command prompt. (Dedicated - redirect (client and server are on different computers)
I am getting an error: TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection.
When I checked the listener log in the server machine, these were the errors:
TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection

From doc. I see that the "current" is the number of client connections it is handling, that is, its current load.It is not correlating with the sessions or processes in DB, so what does this means?
Does it show that more than 150 connections try to perform connection simultaneously?
I have a DB on my local machine and it was working fine till yesterday.Today suddenly I started receiving error "IO Error : The Network Adapter Could not establish the connection".
1) My first question is that is there some log entry corresponding to this failed connection attempt in listener.log or alert.log ? If yes, how to identify it ?
2) My second question is : What to deduct from listener logs pasted below?I know about "service_update" messages, but what about others (having CONNECT_DATA in them) ? Also, what is "WARNING: Subscription for node down event still pending" in below logs ?
ODBC--call failed.TNS:listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA (#12504)
TNSname sets the SID. SQL*Plus is able to connect from the client Windows XP Proff using the same name. Access, on the same client, uses the same Oracle driver to connect successfully to other Oracle databases. These other databases show equal tnsname (different name and SID...)
ODBC Data Source Administrator configures the database and the test connection is successful.
Cannot set up a link from Access to the Oracle database. At some point, I have created a new Access database and it did let me connect, view the list of tables, and set up links to several tables, but the next day I could not open any of the tables and the complain was: ODBC--connection to 'MYDB' failed.
It seems that SQL*Plus passes correctly the SID from the TNSname but ODBC, when invoked from Access, does not. Yet, ODBC does it right for other databases.
I am using oracle 11g client library on Linux 64bit machine and trying to connect to oracle database using jdbc thin driver. The url format what I am trying to use is:
I am able to connect with the above syntax. But when the service_name is having . e.g service_name = orcl.177.39.45, with the above format I get the above error.
If I change the URL syntax to following, it works
jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port/service_name
But both seems to be valid syntax. So I would like to undestand the reason behind the same. When service_name is having ".", why ":" does not work and "/" works and when the service_name is without " ." , 1st format works. Is there any specific reason behind same?
why are there in the Administration --> --> Session 2 entries for 1 database connection (here with benthic golden). But if I login in a browser, there is only 1 entry for this database connection
I Develop Application with C# . I want to connect from Client to Server.
my connection string is ""Data Source=192.168.100.50:1521/XE;User Id=system;Password=system;Min Pool Size=10;Connection Lifetime=120;Connection Timeout=60;Incr Pool Size=5;Decr Pool Size=2;""
When exectue this Connection on Server ، all things OK but when execute on Client this error accure :
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The type initializer for 'OracelExperss' threw an exception"
I am using dg4msql to connect to SQL server from Oracle(10.2.0.4, with AIX 5.3).
#from my laptop sqlplus (10.2.0.2)
SQL>select count(*) from table1@mssql; #works SQL>select * from table1@mssql; #ERROR
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: [Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation {01004}[Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation {01004}
#from my laptop, TOAD Both queries works fine.
i have compared
"select * from nls_session_parameters;" values , TOAD and sqlpus gives same result.
I have installed Oracle 11g R1 and have problem in connecting Oracle SQL Developer.
I have given user name: ora; pswd: ora.
In command prompt it works fine if I gave as below. uid: ora as sysdba pswd: ora
But when I am trying to connect to Oracle SQL Developer it says TNS listener does not know SID.
So I reinstalled this since i have doubt on myself whether I made mistake first time. Also I have doubt whether the un installation completely clears all the files from Registry. - What should I do to clear all the files from registry when un-installing.
1] What is SID. Is it session ID. If so how to find it. 2] Is there any way to confirm the values such HOST NAME: localhost, PORT: 1521, SID: (By default it has 'xe') which I gave for data base connection are correct.
I tried with SID value:135 (I got this value by executing [Select distinct sid from V$mystat;])
3] Is there any editor for practicing sql & pl sql queries. where I can download it.
When i connect from client to server the client looks up for the host address and port number in tnsnames.ora and connect to it via listener.ora in server.Where does pga and sga come into picture here?
Also what is the role of sqlnet.ora in client? What will happen if i specify a different port for the instance in tnsnames.ora and listener.ora?
i have added a new listner on new port on my window 7 system for oracle version 11.2.0.1 and registered some test databases to this new listner , then i am able to access my databases through the toad because i have changed port number in tns entry, but not able to login by sqlplus. is i am missing something? should i have to restart the system or restart the all databases?
TOAD 8.6.1 has an option of showing windows by connection. It is useful when there are multiple connections and, choosing one of these, all windows that belong to other connections are minimized.
Its icon looks like this:
Does TOAD 9.1 have the same option? I'm unable to locate it in options, toolbar customizations or elsewhere.
TOAD 9.5 Release Notes document says that "'Connection list' dropdown button has been restored and can be added to the Toad toolbar.". If I understand it correctly, it says that previous version didn't have that dropdown button, but 9.5 does.
In another words ... 9.1 might not have it at all.
i tried installing oracle sql developer in my laptop and i have problem in setting up a new connection.. Which server am suppose to connect or what's the host no.: i entered the following:
connection name:sethu username:sethu password:sethu connection type:basic and role:default hostname:localhost port:1521 SID:xe and when i give test...
the error shown is "status:failure-test failure: IO Error: The Network could not establish the connection".
I have one query related to database connection from server to client.I have one database in the server and I want to connect from client.I set the tnsnames in client system as follows.
[Prime@localhost Prime]$ java -classpath /home/Oracle/Middleware/wlserver_10.3/server/lib/weblogic.jar utils.dbping ORACLE_THIN system systesm 10.66.12.70:1521 Error encountered: java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12504, TNS:listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.logon(T4CConnection.java:419) at oracle.jdbc.driver.PhysicalConnection.<init>(PhysicalConnection.java:538) at oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.<init>(T4CConnection.java:228)
Is there a shortcut to get the Select Connection Dialog box in SQL Developer?
Every time I need to execute a Query I have to use the mouse to change the Connection, if there is any Shortcut then that would be easier for me to wotk with.
I have an Oracle database (9.2.0.7) installed on a HP-UX server. When trying to access this database from another HP-UX or Linux server, connection is fine. But when trying to connect from a Windows based client, connection is very slow (almost 1 minute to return the result of a 'select count(*)' like query, which is immediate from the Linux client).
Here are some facts I can add :
- Clients and servers are on the same network segment (it is not a network matter)
- No matter which client version I use, there no difference
- I tried to know what happens on the Oracle server when performing my sample query using tusc command : the result is that the server is performing exactly the same actions when sending my query from a Linux client or a Windows client
- The only relevant difference seems to be the client OS
After restarting the listener, we could connect using the connect identifier from the local server. However, when trying to connect from a remote client we received the error of "no listener". In the remote client the identifier is defined with host=ip_address. TNSping from the client to the host was successful.
When we changed listener.ora to host=up_address we could connect ONLY from the remote computer. Only after changing the host in tnsnames.ora file to the IP as well - we could connect from both the local server and the remote client.
I usually use host=localhost in the listener file (and the local tnsnames file) and never had this problem before.
Suppose my oracle database server IP is 128.1.1.100 in the office & the internet static IP is 115.118.33.100 is on that server. I want to retrieve the data by using oracle forms & report from my home's computer having different internet IP 115.118.33.25 on my home's computer.
what would be the settings on my home's computer for the same. i mean tnsname.ora file or any other setting.
