I am using oracle 11g client library on Linux 64bit machine and trying to connect to oracle database using jdbc thin driver. The url format what I am trying to use is:
I am able to connect with the above syntax. But when the service_name is having . e.g service_name = orcl.177.39.45, with the above format I get the above error.
If I change the URL syntax to following, it works
jdbc:oracle:thin:@IP address:port/service_name
But both seems to be valid syntax. So I would like to undestand the reason behind the same. When service_name is having ".", why ":" does not work and "/" works and when the service_name is without " ." , 1st format works. Is there any specific reason behind same?
ODBC--call failed.TNS:listener was not given the SID in CONNECT_DATA (#12504)
TNSname sets the SID. SQL*Plus is able to connect from the client Windows XP Proff using the same name. Access, on the same client, uses the same Oracle driver to connect successfully to other Oracle databases. These other databases show equal tnsname (different name and SID...)
ODBC Data Source Administrator configures the database and the test connection is successful.
Cannot set up a link from Access to the Oracle database. At some point, I have created a new Access database and it did let me connect, view the list of tables, and set up links to several tables, but the next day I could not open any of the tables and the complain was: ODBC--connection to 'MYDB' failed.
It seems that SQL*Plus passes correctly the SID from the TNSname but ODBC, when invoked from Access, does not. Yet, ODBC does it right for other databases.
I have installed Oracle 10g database on my laptop. and when i login into Enterprise Manager I get the java error: "java.lang.Exception: IOException in sending Request :: Connection refused in the header of the homepage".
Connection test failed. Listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.logon(T4CConnection.java:419) oracle.jdbc.driver.PhysicalConnection.<init>(PhysicalConnection.java:538) oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection.<init>(T4CConnection.java:228) oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CDriverExtension.getConnection(T4CDriverExtension.java:32)
When i'm trying to connect my already-existing database, i get an error: "ORA-12505,TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor. The Connection descriptor used by the client was: localhost:1521:xe".
i can't loose the builted tables and the information stored in them.My listener.ora file is :
I am have installed oracle 11.2.0 in redhat linux 5.4. I have respectively 2 oracle homes. so total 2 listener files in 2 oracle homes. For accessing one database.Which listener i need to use ? Also if i am going to enterprise manager which listener file. I have to configure.

I installed oracle 11g successfully and was able to login with SQL plus. When I tried making a connection with the username and password via SQL developer I'm getting the ora-12505 error (picture is attached)
While after connecting to server via my userid( its an externally id) ,after setting ORACLE_HOME and SID, while entering sqlplus / command, its not connecting.Error am getting is:-
ERROR: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available ORA-27123: unable to attach to shared memory segment HP-UX Error: 22: Invalid argument
I am running ORACLE 10.2.0 on Windows Virtual PC. System: Microsoft Windows XP SP3.
Yesterday I wanted to make a copy of my Virtual Machine Hard Drive Image. I directly copied all the files to my external hard drive, but I forgot shutting down my virtual machine when I was doing this.
Today I found my instance failed startup.
In OEM, it is showing:
Agent Connection to Instance Status: Failed Details ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
In SQLPlus:
SQL> connect sys/password as sysdba Connected to an idle instance SQL> startup ORACLE instance started.
We have an issue regarding OS level authentication to access Oracle 11gR2(11.2.0.1) database.
Our environment - UNIX - AIX 5.3 (OS user id password is having kerberos security). Oracle 11.2.0.1 (32 bit client) installed in server 1 Oracle 11.2.0.1 (64 bit server) installed in server 2. Everything works fine when we created a general userid test_db in the database and connect through sqlplus test_db@dbname.
But when we try to use the option of OS level authentication using "sqlplus /", it throws following error and could not be connected.
ERROR: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have created the same OS user name in database (with external password authentication) with prefix OPS$. we have set ORACLE_SID as well.

From doc. I see that the "current" is the number of client connections it is handling, that is, its current load.It is not correlating with the sessions or processes in DB, so what does this means?
Does it show that more than 150 connections try to perform connection simultaneously?
I am having Oracle 11g (Release 11.2.0.2.0) running on Windows Server 2007 SP2. I am trying to connect to this server from my system using SQL Plus command prompt. (Dedicated - redirect (client and server are on different computers)
I am getting an error: TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection.
When I checked the listener log in the server machine, these were the errors: TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error TNS-00530: Protocol adapter error 32-bit Windows Error: 203: Unknown error
I have a DB on my local machine and it was working fine till yesterday.Today suddenly I started receiving error "IO Error : The Network Adapter Could not establish the connection".
1) My first question is that is there some log entry corresponding to this failed connection attempt in listener.log or alert.log ? If yes, how to identify it ?
2) My second question is : What to deduct from listener logs pasted below?I know about "service_update" messages, but what about others (having CONNECT_DATA in them) ? Also, what is "WARNING: Subscription for node down event still pending" in below logs ?

I'm setting up APEX REST security by following the instructions from [URL]...Everything works great according to document.
I can acquire a token, then passing it in the header to get needed data from REST service. Consumer acquires an token by going on web browser to [URL]...
It will be redirected to[URL]... asking for username and password on browser. Once entering them correctly, it will be directed to Redirect URI defined in the OAuth2 client with the token in the URL.
My question is that is it possible to do token acquiring by coding (like in Salesforce) without going to web browser? We've tried doing that, it will stop due to redirect to sign-on.
Successfull installation of my Oracle Client was done. When i opened Enterprise Manage Console and i try to login to a database, the following error occurs

I have Oracle 11g XE and Toad installed on Windows 7 64-bit machine. I am able to connect to database from Oracle's SQLPLUS. But when connecting from TOAD i am getting ora-06413 connection not open error.

I have a client program that needs to communicate with another server program. My client program is implemented in PL/SQL using utl_tcp running on Oracle 9 while the server program is a 3rd party software running on Windows server 2003.
Basically my client program needs to send a request to the server, waits for the response (wait for the incoming string which ended /w chr(3) ) and then acknowledge (sending chr(6) ).
My problem is that if I wait for the chr(3) and then acknowledge. My send routine (l_sent := utl_tcp.write_text (g_conn, p_content) will raise a Oracle generic network error. It seems like the connection is closed. I checked /w the vendor and they said it might be I am taking too long to response ( I question timeout is the problem). I have also attempted to change my read routine from read_line to read_raw but it only make things worst. I cannot even read the complete string. At least with read_line, I can read back the entire string.
My current work around is to send out the ack before I receive the chr(3) (which is not recommended by our vendor).

I am using Oracle Internet Directory exclusively. There are no tnsnames files in my environment. When I try to connect to database "A" on server "A" from server "B" using username/passwd@A, I get this error.ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connectThis problem ONLY occurs from server "B"
. I have ten servers ALL configured identically, but only one has this issue.Remember ALL ldap.ora and sqlnet.ora files are identical. They are all using the same OID.
I'm using Oracle 11. I'm currently having some problem to start my Oracle database after database restore, hence unable to start my SAP application too.
