Nov 5, 2008

I need to migrate data from Mysql database to Oracle11g database.

a) is there any method available to import the all the sqls like table script,constraint scripts,data(insert ) script from Mysql.so that we can apply the sql directly to the oracle schema after making necessary changes(like datatype).

b) Is there any free tool available for the migration.

Migrate Database To Linux And Apply Inc Changes Afterwards

Mar 3, 2012

I need to migrate a 500 GB 10.2 database from windows to linux. Of course I found Alejandro Vargas paper on how to do that ("Database Migration From Windows to Linux Using RMAN"). My problem is that the source database will be up again for 7 days and I need to apply all changes made to the source database to the migrated linux database.

Can I just take all redo log files generated from the source database and apply those to the destination database? I might have a problem with a) file conversion and that the redo log are not in sync with the target database (different check points?).I just found that on an exotic website: "The contents of a redo log file depend on a combination of Oracle version, operating system and server architecture. In general redo logs written on one architecture cannot be read on another. There are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, in Oracle 10.2 a redo log written in Linux can be read by a Windows database."

So if this is true, does it also work the other way AND will the database migration from window to linux create a perfect clone of the database where those redo log files actually can be applied to?

Upgrade :: Migrate Database From Windows To Linux?

May 6, 2013

I need to migrate database from Windows to Linux. The current size is ~50GB.

Current Env:
OS = Windows 2003
DB version = 10.2.0.3

Proposed Env:
OS = Linux
DB version = 11.2.0.2

Would using datapump be a correct choice for this migration? Also do the step below seem correct?

01.     Pre-create tablespaces on target 11g database
02.     Export full database of source 10g database
03.     Copy dumpfile to Destination Server
04.     Grant IMPORT_FULL_DATABASE system privilege to user SYSTEM of target 11g database
05.     Import full database to target 11g database

Export/Import/SQL Loader :: Migrate Database Into Different SID

Jul 19, 2012

I need to migrate a 10g database into an 11gR2 on same Red Hat Linux platform (although different servers with different versions of Linux). The difference between the two databases however is the SID, the new one has a different SID which means that the datafiles will be named differently (as our datafile names include the SID) otherwise everything else is the same..

I propose to take the following steps:

- install 11gR2 on the new server

- create the 11gR2 database with new SID using DBCA

- full export 10g database

- full import dump file into 11gR2 database.

I however do not have experience of how this will work with respect to the full import where the datafiles are named differently. For example TABLESPACE TEST in the source database has datafile TEST_SOURCE.dbf but the same TABLESPACE TEST in the target database will have datafile TEST_TARGET.dbf.

Will all the data in the source database be correctly imported into the new database?

Database Duplication Via RMAN

Nov 11, 2011

I have 2 identical databases set up as follows:

- Version: Oracle 11gR2 (64 bit)
- OS: Windows Server 2008
- File System: ASM (with GRID Infrastructure)

Both instances are virtually identical... Same directory structures, same SYS passwords. The only thing that differs is the instance name (one is ABC, the other is XYZ).

Now, both databases are up and running, both have users on them, and both can accept remote connections. What I want to do is set up a very simple 'copy' system so that everything can be extracted (via RMAN) from the first database, and replace the database on the second. (Then, the user can log into XYZ with the same usernames/passwords they used on ABC.)

Here's what I'm doing so far:

On the 'source' database (ABC) I run RMAN as follows:
rman target / nocatalog
configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to 'C:\temp\CF_%F';
configure channel device type disk format 'C:\temp\bkp_%U';
run {backup database; backup archivelog all; }

Now, I'm not completely sure of what to do on the 'destination' database. I've seen multiple web pages with instructions that require the creation of a new instance using 'oradim' and the creation of a new password with 'orapwd'. However, is that necessary if I have the same sys password on both databases, and I want to use the same XYZ instance name on the destination machine?

Would it work if I used 'delete database' on the destination, and then used the RMAN 'Duplicate database to XYZ backup location 'C:\temp\'? Or does it HAVE to be a new instance created with oradim?

And if I DO have to use oradim to create a new instance, will the data be accessible through XYZ too?

RMAN :: How To Restore Corrupted Database

Dec 19, 2012

We have Oracle 10.2.0.3 database installed on Itanium server.

1. One day we found some packages got invalid & not compiling at all with error – ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], [].

2. Then we successfully restored the database from old RMAN backup of previous date that caused this error.

3. After 2 days again we found the same error in alert_prd log - ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [4097], [], [], [], [], [], [], [] ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_STATS", line 19089 ], [], [], [], [], [], [], []

4. Then for testing we exported database using exp command & found 3 tables are not exporting because of data block corruption issue.

5. Then we truncated the data from all 3 tables and then able to export successfully.

6. After all this we manually run SYS.DMS_STATS job but found same error logged in prd_alert log.

This looks like, still database block corruption issue is there & we are unable to cure it 100% This is a production system & in very critical state now.
