Migrate Database To Linux And Apply Inc Changes Afterwards

Mar 3, 2012

I need to migrate a 500 GB 10.2 database from windows to linux. Of course I found Alejandro Vargas paper on how to do that ("Database Migration From Windows to Linux Using RMAN"). My problem is that the source database will be up again for 7 days and I need to apply all changes made to the source database to the migrated linux database.

Can I just take all redo log files generated from the source database and apply those to the destination database? I might have a problem with a) file conversion and that the redo log are not in sync with the target database (different check points?).I just found that on an exotic website: "The contents of a redo log file depend on a combination of Oracle version, operating system and server architecture. In general redo logs written on one architecture cannot be read on another. There are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, in Oracle 10.2 a redo log written in Linux can be read by a Windows database."

So if this is true, does it also work the other way AND will the database migration from window to linux create a perfect clone of the database where those redo log files actually can be applied to?

Upgrade :: Migrate Database From Windows To Linux?

May 6, 2013

I need to migrate database from Windows to Linux. The current size is ~50GB.

Current Env:
OS = Windows 2003
DB version = 10.2.0.3

Proposed Env:
OS = Linux
DB version = 11.2.0.2

Would using datapump be a correct choice for this migration? Also do the step below seem correct?

01.     Pre-create tablespaces on target 11g database
02.     Export full database of source 10g database
03.     Copy dumpfile to Destination Server
04.     Grant IMPORT_FULL_DATABASE system privilege to user SYSTEM of target 11g database
05.     Import full database to target 11g database

Migrate From Oracle 10gR2 In Windows To 11gR2 In Linux

Jun 22, 2012

Question: to migrate from oracle 10gR2 in Windows to oracle 11gR2 in Linux . Steps are:

1.     need to expdp all schemas/users from oracle 10gR2 in Windows,
2.     then impdp each schema/user into oracle 10gR2 in Linux first,
3.     then upgrade the oracle 10gR2 in Linux to oracle 11gR2 in Linux ?
4.     Do I need to pre-create all the same tablespaces first in oracle 10gR2 in Linux ?

Is it correct ? or I can migrate straight all schemas/users from oracle 10gR2 in Windows to oracle 11gR2 in Linux using impdp ?

Forms :: Migrate Application From Linux Platform To Windows 7?

Oct 17, 2010

I'm trying to migrate our forms application from a Linux platform to Windows 7. We have a common pll which is attached to all forms and unfortunately relies heavily on globals.

Attempting to run the application with the standard library attached to the login form has the effect that the globals are lost between the login form and subsequent forms. If I incorporate the library code directly into the login form, it functions correctly. If I use the debugger to track where the clearing occurs, it functions correctly.

Upgradation And Migration Of 9i Database On HP-UX OS To 10g Database On Solaris Environment

Dec 29, 2010

I am part of a upgradation and migration proj where an Oracle 9i db on a HP-UX OS is going to be upgraded and migrated as 10g db on a solaris OS environment.I am from the application team(Data warehouse team) and we are yet to allocate a specific DBA for taking care of this activity.

We are still in the requirements stage...different requirements and challenges that should be taken care and would occur in the roadmap of this project from a DBA perspective. All your inputs would be very valuable to me.

Solaris 11 / Oracle Database Performance

Sep 16, 2013

We've been battling with very slow performance for some time. Herewith a detail description of the problem:

Solaris-11/ZFS/Oracle problem

We purchased Oracle T4-2 servers, and are experiencing some weird performance problems.

Hardware:
T4-2
2 x 600GB HDD per server
128GB memory per server
2 x dual port QLE2562 FO HBAs
IBM V7000 StorWyse data array
2 x CISCO MDS 9148 fibre optic fabric switches
Software:
Solaris 11.1
MPXIO
Solaris 10 branded local zones
ORACLE 10g Enterprise edition
Project for the oracle user:
user.oracle:100::oracle::process.max-file-descriptor=(basic,8192,deny);process.max-stack-size=(priv,32768,deny);project.max-shm-memory=(priv,21474836480,deny)

We received the first server and wanted to migrate our APPB application system and Oracle 10g Standard Edition database from our SUN T5240 to the T4-2.

T4-2 setup Disk 0:
Global zone: Solaris 11.1 ( ZFS - whole disk for the root pool)
Local zones: On the Solaris 11 environment we built two branded Solaris 10 zones using an Oracle template provided on the Oracle website - solaris-10u11-sparc.bin.

Our complete database resides on the IBM data array, in UFS LUNs.The UFS LUNs were mounted onto ZFS mount-points in the root partition (/), and then LOFS mounted into the zones.

We started with the Solaris 11.1 environment.

1)After a day or two the performance of the database starts deteriorating rapidly. We then stop the database and reboot the machine. After the reboot the performance level is restored.
2)Another huge deterioration in performance happens when we unmount the V7000 LUNs, and reboot to the alternate Solaris, and re-mount the LUNs.
3)What further compounds the issue is that when we start another the database in the second zone, we see another huge performance degradation.
4)We have logged a call with ORACLE. They requested us to gather information which was analysed by them. They did not find anything wrong with the way ORACLE was installed and the setup of the instances.

On Disk 1 we did a Solaris 10 8/11 (Update 10) installation, which we patched with the April 2013 CPU patchset. In this Solaris 10 global zone we built two native Solaris 10 local zones. The Oracle 10g databases were built in the zones (same configurations settings) not in the global zone, onto UFS LUNs. The database in its entirety lives on the IBM V7000 data array. This works fine.

We then received our next T4-2 server.Loaded it again with Solaris 11.1, and upgraded to ORACLE 12c SE Release 12.1.0.1.0 - 64bit12xxx seeing that Oracle 10 is not certified on Solaris 11. To keep things simple, we built two small databases in the ZFS root pool. The complete system now resides on one disk no UFS LUNs to consider, no Fibre Optic fabric, no CISCO switches, no IBM data array, BUT we get the same problem. The system will run for some time and then slow down drastically. Starting the second database slows the system down abnormally.

Export/Import/SQL Loader :: Migrate Database Into Different SID

Jul 19, 2012

I need to migrate a 10g database into an 11gR2 on same Red Hat Linux platform (although different servers with different versions of Linux). The difference between the two databases however is the SID, the new one has a different SID which means that the datafiles will be named differently (as our datafile names include the SID) otherwise everything else is the same..

I propose to take the following steps:

- install 11gR2 on the new server

- create the 11gR2 database with new SID using DBCA

- full export 10g database

- full import dump file into 11gR2 database.

I however do not have experience of how this will work with respect to the full import where the datafiles are named differently. For example TABLESPACE TEST in the source database has datafile TEST_SOURCE.dbf but the same TABLESPACE TEST in the target database will have datafile TEST_TARGET.dbf.

Will all the data in the source database be correctly imported into the new database?

11g Linux 5.5 - How To Deploy Replication Database

Jul 26, 2011

How I can maintain a replication scheme from a production database and a standby. I was watching the advanced replication methods of Oracle, but what I want is in the evening to run a process and modify the database incrementally and thus leave until the next night.

And the server I want to allocate to the standby database, also implements other processes, so my settings would be:

Production: Oracle Database 11g Linux 5.5
Standby: Windows 2003 Database 11g

Maybe that data is important, let me make clear that what I want is that the database is updated incrementally.
