i am a Microsoft SQL Server user, and I recently thought of migrating to Oracle. So to give it I try I downloaded the following files : [URL]
But for the past two days I am heck stuck with making a Proper Installation ! I have swept the Internet and the Oracle Forums but there is not single tutorials on how to 'INSTALL' these products completely.(All tutorials are on on 10 XE and dont cover Dev Tools installation)
For eg. I installed Oracle 11 XE and ODAC 11.2 Release 5 (11.2.0.3.20) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio but still the database was not connecting.A blog suggested that I should edit and place the tnsname.ora files in the correct location then I should configure the machine.config file. But Oracle says that its universal installer automatically configures the config file.
Honestly,I love tough things but its stupid the way oracle is deploying its products. how to install and configure Oracle 11 XE with Visual Studio 2010.
dont get me wrong but this is way too outdated: [URL]
i'm newbie in oracle and visual studio 2005..i running a sql-query in visual studio 2005 with the oracle dataset..i want the data that displayed is in the date range and the parameter is set by user..
I have installed Oracle 11g R1 and have problem in connecting Oracle SQL Developer.
I have given user name: ora; pswd: ora.
In command prompt it works fine if I gave as below. uid: ora as sysdba pswd: ora
But when I am trying to connect to Oracle SQL Developer it says TNS listener does not know SID.
So I reinstalled this since i have doubt on myself whether I made mistake first time. Also I have doubt whether the un installation completely clears all the files from Registry. - What should I do to clear all the files from registry when un-installing.
1] What is SID. Is it session ID. If so how to find it. 2] Is there any way to confirm the values such HOST NAME: localhost, PORT: 1521, SID: (By default it has 'xe') which I gave for data base connection are correct.
I tried with SID value:135 (I got this value by executing [Select distinct sid from V$mystat;])
3] Is there any editor for practicing sql & pl sql queries. where I can download it.
When I run a query form the the Query Window in Visuial Studios 2012 all the date fields truncated to 'mm/dd/yyyy', but i need the full date returned. I am able to get full date from TO_char(MyDateField, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'), but if I do TO_DATE(MyDateField, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss') it only returns 'mm/dd/yyyy'. I'm sure this is a simple setting in Visual studios but I cant find it to save my life. Is there there a way to have the full date returned by default?
Is there a shortcut to get the Select Connection Dialog box in SQL Developer?
Every time I need to execute a Query I have to use the mouse to change the Connection, if there is any Shortcut then that would be easier for me to wotk with.
Problem: After completing debug of procedure from SQL Developer, whenever I try to compile that procedure or execute any query from the SQL worksheet, I get the closed connection error message. However I can debug that procedure for any number of times. Any other activity for that database connection gives closed connection error.

I have been trying out the new 12c on Windows 2012 Essentials with the same type of errors. The OraDim step fails and cannot create the services. It fails a bit differently if I choose "Create New Windows User", choose a "Use Existing Windows User", or choose the Windows Built-in user.
I was wondering if the Express Edition of Oracle Database inherited the same vulnerabilities as the whole edition? Namely I have a few hosts that have Oracle Database 11g Express Edition installed and I was wondering if they would then be vulnerable to CVE-2012-3132 and specifically the easily exploitable flaw associated with it, detailed below:
Can't use links until I've posted 5 messages, ugh..link obfu with x's and [] URL....
I installed Oracle 11g client and set the ORACLE_HOME and tns_admin env variables.I installed the pl/sql developer, but unfortunately after installing , i am unable to see any database details in the drop-down list of pl/sql developer.
My primary objective was to compare objects in schemas in two different databases and find out the differences, Execute DDL's in the database where objects are missing and syn schemas in two different databases. So I need to compare schemas in databases. make a comparison of database objects existing in schemas in two different databases. I'd like to see if I can get a list of pro and cons between Toad and SQL Developer for comparing schemas pros and cons. navigation in SQL Developer to compare schemas.
Connect to Source Connect to Target Compare schemas with different object types Find out differences Generate DDL's for the missing objects or for the objects in difference report Run them in missing instace(Source/Target) Make sure both are in sync.
I read previous post "Can I use the latest features in Oracle Developer Tools 11g and still use ODP.NET version 10.x or 9.x in my application?".In this the solution was: "Solution: Yes, you can use the newest 11g version of Oracle Developer Tools while developing code that relies on ODP.NET version 10g or 9i. In almost all cases it will work fine. The only exception is with the automatic .NET code generation feature. Here is what you need to do:
a) Install both ODT 11g *and* ODP.NET 10g or 9i. They must be placed in different Oracle Homes! b) You will now be able to use the 11g Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio and all of the newest features. To ensure the correct version of ODP.NET is used by your application continue to the next steps: c) Make sure that in the "References" section in your solution, the Oracle.DataAccess.dll that is referenced is coming from the Oracle 10 or Oracle 9 Oracle home. d) Finally, you must "ungac" (gacutil /u) the ODP.NET 11g policy DLL's or else your application will silently begin using the 11g version of ODP.NET even though the reference points to the correct DLL. There are several Oracle policy DLLs with varying names, for example: "Policy.2.102.Oracle.DataAccess.dll". Ungac them all."
Are the steps the same if i have Oracle Developer Tools 12c and still use ODP.NET version 11g R2 in my application?
I am using dg4msql to connect to SQL server from Oracle(10.2.0.4, with AIX 5.3).
#from my laptop sqlplus (10.2.0.2)
SQL>select count(*) from table1@mssql; #works SQL>select * from table1@mssql; #ERROR
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: [Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation {01004}[Oracle][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation {01004}
#from my laptop, TOAD Both queries works fine.
i have compared
"select * from nls_session_parameters;" values , TOAD and sqlpus gives same result.
Using SQL Developer I am able to login using oracle credentials but I dont see any option for SQL Server. I see both Oracle and Access. Why I am not able to see the SQL Server option in SQL Developer tool? I need the SQL Server option because I want to transfer some tables from SQL Server database to Oracle database.
I have installed oracle 11g in my personal laptop, when i open the sql developer and try creating the new connection. am getting "The network adapter could not establish the connection".
