I would like to increase the size of my redo logs. For this I need to drop & recreate them. I have read the Oracle doc [URL] which covers this however :
I have both "normal" and "standby" redo logs (see below) on my primary database - can I drop the standby redo logs? Do these have a link to the redo logs on the standby database?
SQL> SELECt * from v$logfile order by 1;
GROUP# STATUS TYPE MEMBER

2 ONLINE D:ORACLEORADATAREDO02.LOG
3 ONLINE D:ORACLEORADATAREDO03.LOG

5 STANDBY D:ORACLEORADATASTDBYREDO05.LOG
6 STANDBY D:ORACLEORADATASTDBYREDO06.LOG
I need to drop standby database completeley and rebuilt physical standby for the same database. We identified there are lot of inconsistencies between primary and standby. How do i need to remove the standby? And what is the best procedure?
I am working in a bank as an system consultant, i have a SAN Storage Area and oracle as below.
SAN 1
This interface includes the DATA FILES of the oracle tablespace
SAN 2
SAN1 Mirrors the DATA FILES of the oracle tablespace to SAN 2
1. Can i rely on real time data recovery from SAN2 ? 2. if SAN1 (Data Files are currupted) will the SAN2 Data Files will be currupted as well. 3. If the SAN2 is currupted then what Oracle Features can be used to have uncurrupted data.
I have set up a cross platform (Microsoft Windows IA (32-bit) -> Linux x86 64-bit) data guard and it worked fine.Then I did a switch over (which again worked) and found out the data is not getting replicated at all.. checked the data files available from the new primary database and found out they are in the windows format as below..
SQL> select name from v$datafile;
NAME -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D:ORACLEAPPADMINISTRATORORADATAMFSSYSTEM01.DBF D:ORACLEAPPADMINISTRATORORADATAMFSSYSAUX01.DBF D:ORACLEAPPADMINISTRATORORADATAMFSUNDOTBS01.DBF D:ORACLEAPPADMINISTRATORORADATAMFSUSERS01.DBF D:ORACLEAPPADMINISTRATORORADATAMFSRMANRMAN_TS01.DBF
and physically they were created at '/home/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/' and as
1> Does dataguard in 10g use ftp/rsh to transfer archived log files to standby database or some other protocol?
2> In my primary database, archives are getting generated normally, there is no error in alert log file. But archives are not getting transferred to standby database. I am able to connect through sys user from primary server to standby database & vice versa.
Also, tnsping is working fine.
All was working fine till 2 days back & no parameter has been changed from database side. I am not able to transfer the file manually through FTP to standby server. Does it is the problem? Or dataguard doesnt use FTP protocol to transfer the files?
I've only successfully duplicate a standby database.
from the alert log

when I tried to add the online and standby redo log, it error out

As part of the duplicating operation, RMAN automates the following steps:
Creates a control file for the duplicate database
Restores the target datafiles to the duplicate database and performs incomplete recovery by using all available incremental backups and archived redo logs
Shuts down and starts the auxiliary instance (refer to "Task 4: Start the Auxiliary Instance" for issues relating to client-side versus server-side initialization parameter files)
Opens the duplicate database with the RESETLOGS option after incomplete recovery to create the online redo logs (except when running DUPLICATE ... FOR STANDBY, in which case RMAN does not open the database) when duplicating for standby database it does not create online redo logs. Duplicating a standby database does not creates online redo logs.
how should I add the online and standby redo logs. If I transfer the redo logs from primary to standby, it always encountered the the following error
Dump file d:ora102ctadumpcta_arc0_3624.trc Tue Sep 13 19:21:53 2011 ORACLE V10.2.0.4.0 - Production vsnsta=0 vsnsql=14 vsnxtr=3 Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production With the OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options Windows XP Version V5.1 Service Pack 2
I performed a switchover test of my Exadata databases last night. Both databases are running 11.2.0.2 (BP7) on top of GI of the same version.I'm using Data Guard Broker to administer the Data Guard configuration.
I have, as you'd expect, the standby_file_management set to AUTO, so any file changes/additions/deletions that are made on Primary should be applied to Standby also.And they have been. Until last night.
When I had switched over to running Primary on the Standby site, I got this error message:
Tue Jun 04 22:27:12 2013 Errors in file /u01/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/exdw1pdg/exdw1pdg1/trace/exdw1pdg1_ora_26630.trc: ORA-25153: Temporary Tablespace is Empty
I checked and my two temp tablespaces existed, but had no files in them. These files are 200Gb and 448Gb in size, so you'd think you'd notice them going missing. This wasn't by any means the first time we switched over (and, yes, I did create temp files for Standby when I built it and first switched over)
We've switched over to Standby multiple times and even ran a whole day's processing against it and haven't seen this. Ultimately, it wasn't a big deal, because I just created a tempfile for each of the tablespaces and off we went.Nothing in MOS seems to mention something like this. Basically, it looks like the switchover process decided to eat my tempfiles but keep my temp tablespace defintion. Odd.
I am trying to create the Standby database using RMAN.
I have first created an auxiliary instance followed by the password file for the instance and the registering it it listener.
Below are the parameters of the pfile of the standby database and followed by the command issued at the RMAN prompt.
PFILE parameters [STANDBY] orcl.__db_cache_size=293601280 orcl.__java_pool_size=8388608 orcl.__large_pool_size=8388608 orcl.__oracle_base='F:appdsharma'#ORACLE_BASE set from environment
We already have one standby database, but now, I want to create another standby database on another server, which ultimately I will make primary and then replace and destroy our current primary/standby databases.
Also, just for the heck of it, I tried to look in our DB Console, and the "Add standby database" is grey'd out.
Is this because I am only using DB Console, and not Grid?But if that were the case, why would the option even be in DB Console, or perhaps is there a lmiitation to the number of standby databases you can manage with DB Console?
In my environment Oracle database 11gR1 is running & dg is configured i.e >> 1 primary & 1 standby. In near future space issues will arise for standby. I want to create 1 more standby with max disk space, but how? Active dataguard is configured where report are generated from where & what changes should be made in Primary pfile & new standby pfile.
I would need to create a physical standby database for DR without using data guard. I like to know in more details like
1. What would be required to switch over to standby database in case of failure of primary database? Is it going to be a manual process each time, or can be automated using scripts? 2. How the archive logs will be applied to standby database in timely manner to sync with primary database? 3. How the Primary database will be synch with Standby database once the issue resolved on primary database. 4. Where do I get a complete script to create physical standby database on Windows platform?

its standby archieving problem ,the problem appears when try to connect directly or through telenet and we try to login directly using oracle user we receving following message and login fail, "GDM could not write to your authorization file,this could mean that you are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be opened for writting"
i want to create a dropdown field it will display list of currencies for selection derived from
sy_curr_code (columns currency_code and des1) in the s_sales_center(table ) -If INF_SRC_DB = AUS, will default to USD, otherwise default to BPS. i have created this so far vSQl := 'select toValueText(a.code1, a.descr) from (select currency_code code1, DES1 descr1 '|| 'from sy_curr_code where active = ''Y'' '|| 'and subcat1 = ''Y'' '|| ') a ';
We have physical data guard configured version (10.2.0.4). We are in need to upgrade primary & standby database to 11G R2. Can we perform rolling upgrade.
the trigger works very well but when i add some trigger between drop and create constraints then first step drop constraint sucessfully but 2nd trigger when create new constraints not working examples of trigger are as under:-
declare s_number varchar2(7); cursor masters is select voc_type,voc_date,voc_no from account.voc_masterorder by voc_type,voc_date,voc_no; abc masters%rowtype; cursor detail is select voc_no,ref_no from account.voc_detail group by voc_no,ref_no; [code]....
I've to create a table every time a procedure is run, initially the table should be dropped and then created every time. From this procedure, the table is neither created nor dropped.
I cant track the error. Why is it so?
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TESTPROC IS S_SQL VARCHAR2(1000); BEGIN S_SQL := 'DROP TABLE MYTEST PURGE'; EXECUTE IMMEDIATE S_SQL; [code]........
Through an Oracle Apex application I need to create/drop a user/schema in another Oracle database. i.e., create/drop user remotely using an Oracle Apex application.
if there is a way to create a custom log files or if there is way to utilize the built in log function of Oracle. Here is the code with what I am trying to do:
IF (_CONDITION IS NOT NULL) THEN IF (V_CONDITION <> 'NS' OR V_CONDITION <> 'NE' OR V_CONDITION <> 'AR' OR V_CONDITION <> 'OH' OR V_CONDITION <> 'SV') THEN
[Code]....
Ok, so where you see V_CONDITION := 'XX'; I would like to have the value of V_CONDITION be input into a log file as apposed to changing the value to XX. So I would have something like:
RAISE BAD_CONDITION_CODE;
The problem is that I am not sure how to create the actual log file that the value of V_CONDITION will be stored in.
I have two tables, one with the customer address and another one with a note. May I know how to create a separate PDF file (for each customer) that should start with the customer name/address (from customer table) and followed by a note (from the note table)
