Clusterware :: Listener On RAC Node 2 Not Accepting User Connections

Apr 11, 2013

I have a 2 RAC node cluster . The problem is that the second listener is not registering any connections . I have verified the services of listener using lsnrctl status (the default name is LISTENER), i also have verified the local and remote listener parameters they are fine but running the fol query shows count =0 against inst_id=2;

SQL > select count() from gv$session where username='XYZ' and inst_id=2;*

RAC/ASM Clusterware Installation :: Query On Adding New Node To Existing 2 Node Cluster

Jun 15, 2012

current environment

Oracle VM 2 Node RAC cluster
Oracle 11G 11.2.0.3.0
Oracle 11g rel 2 GI

on current 2 node cluster we have GI and RAC db configured Nodes: vmorarac1,vmorarac2

we shutdown vmorarac1 to clone it to vmorarac5

on new node I have changed the hostname to vmorarac5 In /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 change ip to new ip and same for /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 152.144.199.210,152.144.199.211

mad echanges to /etc/hosts on vmorarac1/2 for 2 new IP address assigned to vmorarac5

152.144.199.171 vmorarac1.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac1
192.168.2.30 vmorarac1-priv.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac1-priv
152.144.199.184 vmorarac1-vip.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac1-vip

[Code]....

Query is is that all ok to reboot the new node to reflect changes as below and change the hostname to vmorarac2

152.144.199.210 vmorarac2.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac2
192.168.2.32 vmorarac2-priv.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac2-priv
152.144.199.211 vmorarac2-vip.pbi.global.pvt vmorarac2-vip

hostname change in /etc/sysconfig/network

On new node vmorarac5, there is alreay software for RAC DB and GUI cloned from vmorarac1

addnode.sh is used to add existing node, but as part of pre-requisite configuratoin is there any config step missing

I am installing Oracle 10g Clusterware in RHEL 5 Server. When i run root.sh in the second node the last step Running vipca(silent) for configuring nodeapps failed. Then i run VIPCA manually in second node and configured vip configuration successfully, but when i checked the post-checks for cluster services the Checking existence of VIP node application,Checking existence of ONS node application and Checking existence of GSD node application in second node failed. I am able to ping both the servers one another with vip name successfully and the CSS,CRS and EVM appears healthy in both nodes. 1. Does the vip configuration is proper? Oracle Listener Log Entries Missing And Database Not Allowing Connections

Mar 20, 2013

We have a custom portal application that uses a bunch of application servers. Our connection pool max size is 1100. For the past two days, we had two incidents when the cpus reached the max limit and the db was not allowing connections to come thro' for 10 minute periods. The alert log does not have any entry and the listener log does not have any entry for that 10 minute period.

RAC/ASM Clusterware Installation :: Verification Of Steps To Convert Single Node To RAC

Jan 16, 2013

I have a single node Oracle E-Biz 12.1.3 Installation. We plan to convert this to a dual node RAC install and I wanted to run by the steps to perform this AND clone over the current production system to the new RAC system (note this will not be using ASM - but will be based on NetApp NFS)

1. Install GRID 11.2.0.3
- installed acorss two nodes, Binaries can be shared
- voting disks / cluster rigistry MUST be shared

2. Install Database Software for RAC
- Binaries cannot be shared and must be installed on each node independently

3. Configure the GRID for database (database / listeners)

4. Clone over the stand alone system (clone database as RAC)

I will be using SCAN - and therefore would expect all the web services / concurrent manager nodes to point to the SCAN hostname as opposed to individual host names.

Clusterware :: Listener Restart In 11g RAC

Oct 28, 2013

11g RAC environment, I manually shutdown the database with "shutdown immediate" and stop the listener with "lsnrctl stop". Later I manually startup only the database but the listener is also started automatically at almost the same.

Why would this happen ? I just don't want the listener to startup automatically at that time. What can i do to prevent the listener from auto-starting when i startup the database manually.

Real Application Clusters :: One Node Or Clusterware Single Instance Failover?

Aug 21, 2012

I am trying to design a database consolidation high-availability cluster for Oracle 11g R2 64-bit Enterprise Edition (X86-64) on Oracle Linux 6.x UEK, using Oracle 11.2.0.3 (the latest as of Aug 2012).

We don't need RAC Multi-Node now or in foreseeable future because none of the databases we run break the capacity of a single node. Likewise, we don't need to use Oracle VM to virtualise the database instances.

We plan to use SGA and PGA memory management to run multiple instances on same hardware operating on a single Linux 64-bit O/S image.Does it sound ok so far?

Two or three of 4-socket, 40-core Intel 64-bit servers with 512GB of RAM each (relatively cheap at today's HW commodity prices) will be sufficient to run all Oracle databases we have on Linux 64-bit.So the two HA options that I know of are:

(1) use Oracle Clusterware/Grid/ASM to provide for instance failover
(2) use Oracle RAC One Node on top of Clusterware/Grid/ASM

As I understand it RAC One Node is significantly more expensive than the "free" Oracle Clusterware/ASM/Grid (since we own Oracle 11.2.0.3 Enterprise Licences already). So why should my employer pay for RAC One Node licence given they already own Single Instance Fail-Over and Restart protection from Clusterware/Grid/ASM ?

I also read that Data Guard 11.2 may not be supported with RAC One Node on 11.2? True? Will same Data Guard 11.2 work with a Single-Instance Failover running on Clusterware/Grid/ASM ?

-Who is running RAC One Node? Why?
-Who is running Single Instance Failover with Clusterware? Why?
-Who is using Data Guard with either of the above?

RAC - Listener - VIP Doesn't Migrate From One Node To Another

Apr 17, 2012

I have the following problem on a 10.2.0.4 Oracle on AIX 1.6..I have 2 RAC nodes as the node # 2 goes down, the VIP migrated correctly to the node # 1, but the listener # 1 do not see the change, and just resolve to the local ip.

The same does not apply in the reverse case, when it drops the node N 1, the listener attends to the fallen VIP node and migrated. The configuration is correct and identical in both nodes, according to the documentation, but I can not find a reasonable answer.

Clusterware :: Add Listener To Grid Infrastructure Using Srvctl

Jan 14, 2013

We have a two node 11.2.0.3 Grid Infra cluster running on SLES11 Linux. Everything is ok with the SCAN and standard listeners.

However we have a listener running on each node which is used by Oracle Gateway. These listeners were created manually using info provided by Oracle (i.e. definition copied to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora and started using lsnrctl). This all works.

These listeners are currently not managed by Grid Infra. We would like them to be.

I thought this was easy enough using srvctl to register them with Grid Infra using...

srvctl add listener -n mynode1 -l LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW -o $ORACLE_HOME -p 1529
srvctl add listener -n mynode2 -l LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW -o $ORACLE_HOME -p 1529

These commands worked but did give a warning stating that the -n flag is deprecated and will be ignored.

This has left us with the following listener config....

grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode1 | grep mynode
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1

grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode 2 | grep mynode
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2

You can see that Grid Infra knows about the listeners but they are available on both nodes. What we would like is a result like the following example....

grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode1 | grep mynode
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode1
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE1_GW is not running on node(s): mynode1

grid@MYNODE1:~> srvctl status listener -n mynode 2 | grep mynode
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is enabled on node(s): mynode2
Listener LISTENER_MYNODE2_GW is not running on node(s): mynode2

i.e one listener registered with just the node it is running on. This used to be possible with using the -n flag but no longer works.

How To Kill Inactive Connections Automatically

Apr 26, 2011

i was gone through the below link

[URL]

so when i changed my idle_time value in profile and the when the user exceeds the idle_time value the user still i can see in-active state in v$session.

and when i was tried to execute any query on inactive session that time i got an ORA- error and then session was not visible from v$session.

in my environment inactive session was not getting used afterwards so is there any way to kill that sessions automatically once reached idle_timeout value.

lets say i have 50 max sessions, out of which 10 are inactive state and 40 in active state .what if i created one more sessions will that give me ORA- error stating max sessions reached or it will kill the one session which are in-active state.

Performance Tuning :: SSL On Database Connections?

insight into the overheads for mutally authenticated SSL for database connections? This is over a fast local network, to a RAC cluster, with DB firewall in front. There's always a large element of "it depends"

Information I'm interested in are things like latency for initial session setup and subsequent data transfer. Also the increase in network packet size, and the increase in CPU cost for the database server. I guess there is some implications for session memory usage as well.

PCI - Auditing Connect / As Sysdba - Connections?

Feb 15, 2012

I have a problem with a PCI DSS - requirement in Oracle 11.2. (PCI DSS = Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard)

Problem:

we connect via ' ssh -2 -X -l oracle hostname ' to the databaseserver and become os-user 'oracle'. we have also two offshore locations with dba's and each dba comes with his personalized user to the jumphost and then with the above ssh command to the database server.

the problem is that each dba becomes the oracle-os-account and can now connect with '/ as sysdba' to the database.in pci-dss this is not allowed !

now my question:how can I audit these '/ as sysdba'-connections and prove which user connected at which time with the '/ as sysdba' command ?

database is in audit mode. we log to syslog on linus redhat 5. I know one solution could be setting "SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES" parameter to "NONE" in sqlnet.ora file will make it not possible to connect to the database without a password as sysdba. (sqlplus / as sysdba). but we have to many applications and jobs and this is not really the solution in this case.

I think I can only solve this problem with personalized OS-user DBA-accounts in the dba-goup on os-site and os-user oracle should not be used for the future ?? I also need personalized dba-user-accounts in the database. using sys and system is not allowed. this users has to be locked and only for special administration work could it be unlocked.
