11.2.0.3 Database Running On AIX - Memory?

I have a 11.2.0.3 database runing on AIX. The instance hangs and crashes due to memory usage issues. I checked the alert log of the database and this is what i see:
WARNING: Heavy swapping observed on system in last 5 mins.pct of memory swapped in [11.85%] pct of memory swapped out [3.45%]. make sure there is no memory pressure and the SGA and PGA are configured correctly. Look at DBRM trace file for more details.i also see the following in the alert.log:

Can i know the internal process of initialization of DB into memory in timesten , when a new connection is establishing? Will timesten create tables and indexes in RAM when first connection is established if the RAM policy is default?
want to know the internal functional flow of timesten when any command is fired against it.

I have the following setup
SQL> show parameter sga;
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
lock_sga boolean FALSE
pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
sga_max_size big integer 3G
sga_target big integer 2G
from what I read I beleive this will initially grab 2GB of memory on startup and will grab up to to 3GB of memory total for the SGA. The "total" memory can be allocated to different peices of the SGA when needed but will never exceed 3GB. Is this correct or would these settings infringe on any available memory on a system that is already tight on memory?
Secondly, what happens if both these values are set to the same value?

I have 3 questions.
I have 11.2.0.1 database on Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
1) While connecting to the database as sysdba (sqlplus "/as sysdba"), it takes about 12 to 15 seconds what things I need to check/change so that connection will be faster?
2) Also, I have read somewhere that changing the sga/memory parameters connecting to the database. is it true?
3) This is not concerned with above 2 questions. What should be the memory parameters size for a 8 gb database?
What I have is:
Total System Global Area 1068937216 bytes
Fixed Size 2182592 bytes
Variable Size 1027605056 bytes
Database Buffers 33554432 bytes
Redo Buffers 5595136 bytes

I'm running Oracle 11.2g enterprise and we have a database on a server. We want to take a backup from this database and restore it in another database with fewer memory. In restore procedure after edition of pfile I try to restore controlfiles with my edited pfile(initdb.ora), but i'm getting an error related to memory shortage. So i decreased the amount of *.memory_target(3.5G to 2.5G) and the restore procedure continued. At the end when i try to Open database(alter database open resetlogs) i got the following error and the database does not work normally.

I have a question regarding memory parameters in oracle database 9.2.0.8, especially sga_max_size and db_cache_size. Database server has 32G of ram. Oracle parameter on server shmmax is set to 16G. Is reasonable to set sga_max_size to the same value, and db_cache_size to 80% of that size?

I am running oracle linux 5.7 on VMware Workstation 9 and trying to install Grid 11gr2, during installation my system freezes and I see out of memory errors. Actually Java installer is eating up too much memory over 1gb. Is there a way ? I can limit memory usage by Java process to a certain extent ?

We changed the parameter CLUSTER_DATABASE=FALSE on one of the instances before converting and reverted back.why this parameter needs to be changed to false?

i am continuously inserting data to oracle database after some time like 2 hours oracle disconnects,it creates erros like
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Process ID: 0

after restarting the database with shutdown immediate ans startup if i start inserting records it will show erros like
ORA-01653: unable to extend table SYSTEM.GLT_PROT_TRAFFIC_SUM_VOIP by 8192 in tablespace GLCOMM
but i have created the Tablespace with BigFile Auto Extend and max size unlimited, i am having 400GB disk space created Redo logs with 15gb,i have tried serveral times reinstalling the oracle but problem is not solved.
same problem is happenging with small datafiles also,
operating system: windows server 2008 R2 standard
oracle server : 11g
oracle client : 64 bit

I was carrying out an experiment in order to crash the database and recover it.
The database was running, I moved the control file to another location and to my surprise the database was still running. I tried issuing checkpoint and transaction but it didn't affect database operations. I tried doing log switch. It completed successfully. According to my understanding and Oracle Certification books database was supposed to crash. But it didn't.
I tried this not only on RHEL, Windows XP but also in Solaris 5.10. The database version is Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition.

We are planning to consolidate our Oracle Production DB into one server. We are basically a windows shop. Is it feasible to run 8 production Oracle DB in one windows server. All the DB are not really transaction intensive DB. 2 DB in the size of 300GB and others all DB falls under average size of 40GB.
I can take care of the HD slicing so Oracle does not enter into IO bottleneck. We are planning to go for external NAS or SAN for storage.
My main concern is on processor usage. The processor we are thinking about is Intel Xeon Quad Core x 2nos. Will there be a processor bottleneck or is there way in Oracle to assign processor usage(I belive there is no much tweaking options here)

We are using OCI call library to connect to Oracle database through one application. When we try to run this application through valgrind( a memory leak detection tool for linux) then, OCIServerAttach() call is failing to connect to db and it says that "ORA-1034 :Oracle not available"," Oracle instance may be down", etc. However, our oracle instance is running and database is open. When we run our application normally ( not through the tool) then everything is working fine.

I have oracle 10g up and running on Solaris 10, from windows I would like to connect to sql plus through windows authentication, for that I have already made sure that remote_auth = true and have created user in oracle with OPS$. But still I cannot connect.
I have the same setup but with oracle on windows server, the os authentication from windows clients works just fine.
does oracle 10g on solaris 10 supports windows os authentication?

I have a RUN file within a script to duplicate a database. As part of this RUN file I also run the command configure controlfile autobackup off; as part of this RUN file. However, this command has turned off backup of the control file on the AUXILLARY database (i.e. production) as well as the TARGET database (test). Is this supposed to happen?
My run file is:

I new to data guard concept.
I am using oracle 10g with data guard configured , I have primary ( A ) and standby database ( B ) .But because of some unavoidable conditions the primary database ( A ) got shutdown and was not starting , We shifted the standby database ( B ) at new location and changed it to primary with following command ,
startup mount;
alter database recover managed standby database finish;
alter database commit to switchover to physical primary;
shutdown;
startup;
This new primary ( B ) was open for end users for 2 days during which old primary ( A ) was shutdown .
I took the backup of ( B ) and restored it on A AND shutdown the B . Now A is acting as Primary database. Server B is shutdown . I want to change server B to standby database with A running as Primary .Is it possible ?

We are using the 11.1.0.7 database, we implemented the Memory_Max_Target and Memory_target in the database.Here is the value of the memory parameters:

we are using windows server 2008 R2 and oracle database version 11.2.0.2
Have two points here : I/O performance and Out of memory issue
1.) ADDM Report recommended solution is to stripe all data files for to reduce "Wait class "User I/O" was consuming" But I am not sure It will improve more I/O performance(it will resolved the issue) and same issue we are getting on many servers.

Currently weblogic has 120 concurrent connections to the database.There is a requirement to scale up the number ofconcurrent connections to 300.We have did some study and quite be quite sure that the current sga and pga is required. (the additional connections will be firing the same sql which is very well tuned.
However each additional connection to the database will take up additional memory just for the connection?Will is be using the memory in the PGA? Or outside the PGA for the connection overhead?We are not using MTS.

i am running 11.2.0.1 on HP-UX PA-RISC (64-bit). My Memory max target is defined as 34 GB and memory target is 32 GB on the database. The host has 256 GB physical memory. i see memory utlization is almost 90% used when seen from Grid Control on the host and wondering, what's going on? when i see into more details, i see the following 3 HP Processes consuming around 3.6 GB memory and rest very small is consumed by Oracle processes. Who's using the rest of the memory?
