I have the following XML structure:

I'd like to get 4, ok, Live engl, 300, 1, Live engl.
using XMLTYPE but how to get

Since I need to do something along the lines of inserting an xml document into the database for later to use.
Anyway, the problem I get with the below is

I have loaded into an Oracle table defined as XMLTYPE. I'm okay with PL-SQL and stored procedures, where I will ultimately do this processing once I get a handle on XML DB querying from an XMLTYPE table.
Based on reading the oracle documentation about XML DB, and more importantly, reading dozens of posts to this forum,I have been successful in loading the XML files into a SQL XMLTYPE table and doing simple queries against that table to retrieve some of its data so that I can then insert that data into other target oracle relational tables.
how to select parent/child data from XMLTYPE tables. I am able to follow the forum examples and can replicate the methods shown on the many example XML contents shown on this forum, but not against the XML that I have to process. I am wondering if my struggle is caused by my lack of knowledge, or by ill-formed XML content supplied to me by the educational vendor.The XML content has structured the XML content nodes in such a way that I do not seem to be able to apply the parent/child sql methods.I have been able to use for other XML examples I have tested against.
My XML file shown below represents High School Transcript data, for which I need to be able to parse out into my own oracle relational tables for that student, his personal info, and his course info, etc. i.e., for our example, which courses he has taken for which High School grade levels. The vendor-supplied XML seems to put the Courses and the High School grade level in "parallel nodes," instead of parent/child nodes, so I am struggling to be able to use SQL to differentiate which course the student took in NinthGrade versus TenthGrade.

I'm trying to insert an XML into an XMLType with the following value:

the question is I need to have > in the text, but Oracle insists in putting it like <script> > </script>.
What do I have to do to solve this?

I have an XMLType column that is validated via some XMLSchema. Now I want to remove this restriction and make it just a generic XMLType column. I tried bunch of alter table commands but I couldn't figure out the magic combination. Is this possible?
Here is the actual problem. Unfortunately, we ended up both local and global schemas using the same URL. We have customers out there with both schemas (early customers) or only global schema (new customers). Most of the tables were created before the global schema was added. So, they are referencing the local schema. Now we want to evolve our schema, and I am trying to write a sql script to clean-up this mess. if only global schema exists then (these are late customers)
- do nothingelse if both global and local schema exist then (these are early customers)
- If any table or table.column has dependency on local schema (I can find this out from user_dependencies) I am going to mark those tables/columns as no schema validated. i.e. remove all references to local schema
- delete and purge the local schema
- modify those tables/columns and make them point to the global schema end if
- evolve the schema (only global one is left)
Is there a way to modify a column definition and move its reference from local schema to global schema where both schemas have the same URL? Of course the main constraint is that we do not want to loose customer data. By the way, both local and global schemas are identical in terms of xsd.
is it possible to change XMLSchema/Element settings of an XMLType column from X to Y, X to null, or null to X?

I would like my application to have access to 2 different data sources [reached by two different database links]:
- DS_ONLINE that would be the main data source dedicated for an ONLINE access
- DS_OFFLINE, consisting of some materialized views which would refer to the objects of the DS_ONLINE data source, maintained in case of the DS_ONLINE's temporary inaccessibility A flag DS_ONLINE_ACCESS_FLAG indicating the DS_ONLINE's accessibility would be maintained.
I would like to make the choice of the current data source TRANSPARENT to my PL/SQL application [I wouldn't like the logic of determining the current data source to be embedded in my application code]. How can I do it?
I thought I could write the code as follows:
OPEN CURSOR c FOR
SELECT A, B, C FROM TABLE_SYNONYM;
Where the definition of the TABLE_SYNONYM would change in function of the DS_ONLINE_ACCESS_FLAG flag.
It could be done as DDL statement of "create or replace synonym ..." placed in a procedure dedicated to set the DS_ONLINE_ACCESS_FLAG flag...
...but I'm not sure if it is going to work and even so

When I invoke SOAP Web-Service using APEX_WEB_SERVICE.MAKE_REQUEST, then I'm able to get response from web-service. However all German character are replaced by JUNK data. However data is coming fine when I test web-services using SOAP UI.
I tried to invoke web-service using UTL_HTTP. However when I use UTL_HTTP, then I'm getting following error.
ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list
<li> Why German characters are replaced by Junk data while invoking web-service from APEX, while it's working fine from SOAP UI
<li> When I can access web-service successfully using APEX_WEB_SERVICE, then why it's throwing ORA-24247 error when I call using UTL_HTTP?

Is there a way to apply changes to a data field on oracle forms for specific users?
For example, I have an oracle form that applies the below masking code for a certain field called CUSTOMER_ID
IF :SYSTEM.BLOCK_STATUS = 'QUERY' THEN
SET_ITEM_PROPERTY('CUSTOMER_ID',CONCEAL_DATA,PROPERTY_TRUE);

But I only want this masking to be applicable to CERTAIN users. For example, the psuedo code would be like

SET_ITEM_PROPERTY('CUSTOMER_ID',CONCEAL_DATA,PROPERTY_TRUE);
Note that this users_list is a group of oracle database users, so I am a member of this group. Also note that this form is applied via the web via the application server.

I have issue while loading xml_data into xmltype field in the table.Issue is whenever there is a special character like this 'revisions to §6' in xml text then it is 'revisions to §6' when its in the xmltype field of the table.
There is this new character appended before every special character.I have checked the database characterset.Characterset: NLS_ CHARACTERSETValue: AL32UTF8

I am trying to access and modify data of a table of another schema which contains 80,000-90,000 records. My procedure is taking near about 30 mins to complete the operation. faster access and updation of table data.
Details:
I have two schema: TEST and PROD
I am running the below code from TEST Schema.

The above code is taking near about 30mins to process.
I have also tried another approch: Creating a procedure in PROD schema to update COMPONENT_MASTER table and by calling the procedure from above code by passing component code.

But still it is taking same time.

I have installed APEX on my local machine, created a workspace, and added a few users with roles.
I am creating an application, similar to a Library app, where I have a table that stores Books information (BOOK_ID, BOOK_NAME, etc). I'd like to create another table BOOK_USER with two columns, BOOK_ID and USER_ID. BOOK_ID would refer to the BOOKS table, and I want USER_ID to refer to the table that stores user details of the workspace that I am using. The data entry would happen from a page that has two LOVs, one for book name (using BOOK_ID as the value) and another for user name (USER_ID, or whatever field APEX uses to store user's ID). Can I do that in APEX? I've found ways to access and authenticate a user for a page, but how to get data of all users in the workspace? In other words, how to get all usernames in a LOV?

We have got a new requirement wherein, The customer wanted the DBA Vendor (US) NOT to access the confidential information (ALL Columns) in the DB tables of PRODUCTION database. This is for few applications to comply with with export control rules. The thin support by Customer DBA will be allowed to access the Data, if required .
1) Web Based Interface ?.
2) DB Encryption (But if we encrypt ALL columns Serious performance issue expected, File level will not restrict DB level access)
3) Special setting on DB (DBA to do only backup and restoration related work only - But cannot access data)
4) Standard Tools / Utilities / Others ??.

Is it possible for Access to extract data from an Oracle database and upload it directly?
Currently we have a business process where data is being extracted in scheduled queries (30+) to Excel spreadsheets, then manually edited to remove heading lines and imported to an Access database. I see an opportunity to automate a time consuming manual activity by having the Access db extract the data and directly upload it.

I exported oracle database from one server in a dmp file. then i imported it in another oracle database server. when i saw the imported data the columns which were storing german data is in rubbish characters.
then i remember that the database from where i exported is having nls language as german. i executed this statement to set the nls on the new server
alter system set nls_lang=german SCOPE=SPFILE
but now my database is not getting started always giving me error - cannot access NLS data files or invalid environment specified.
i also set the path NLS_LANG=german in the solaris environment.
